We had lunch here and the food was amazing. The view from the terrace is mighty fine and the owner is a really nice guy. Whenever we are in the area we will visit again. I highly recommend this place!
Everything is wonderful at Villa Maria, starting with Tony and his mother Maria who are the most caring hosts you can imagine, so much so that you feel as welcome as an old friend. They are always there when you need them. The location, only half an hour away from Spili, is very beautiful and off the beaten tracks with a striking contrast between the mountains and the beaches. The views from the hotel are breathtakingly picturesque. I stayed in room Katerina, very nice, perfectly clean, with a very good bed and a terrace with comfy chairs. Plenty of hot water for the shower. Maria is a very fine cook too, the food is truly delicious and the open restaurant a very cosy place. On the big terrace, there are also coffee tables with good chairs to have a rest in the shade or have an ouzo. Wi-Fi works perfectly in both the restaurant and the room. Altogether, a great travel and human experience (and very good value for money)! Thank you again for your kindness and hospitality, Tony and Maria 🙏🏻…
Thought twice about writing this review because this is the kind of place you want to remain unspoiled and to keep for yourself. The rooms are basic but have all the necessities. We had two rooms and a balcony to ourselves right next to a waterfall and fell asleep to the sound of the waterfall. The place is right on a beautiful beach but there are no chairs or shade but the hotel does have umbrellas you can borrow. And after the beach you can shower in the waterfall. Food is good and reasonably priced so you don't have to go anywhere if you don't want to. The owner Adonis makes you feel like you are a special guest. So if you want peace and quiet and rest in a beautiful setting then this is the place.
My partner and I visit frequently Crete. This is our favorite Taverna in Crete, and we end up eating there every day when we stay in Crete. Maria makes amazing traditional Cretan food. It is diverse, fresh, healthy and absolutely delicious. Everyone can find here dishes for their taste. Whether you are a carnivore, a vegan, a vegetarian, a sea food freak, this is your place. Besides, Maria and her son Adonis are so nice. They are generous and friendly, and they will do whatever they can to make you feel great and enjoy your experience. And if this is not enough, their place is located on one of the nicest beaches in southern Crete. You can enjoy a beautiful walk, swim, or simply watch the sunset from the Taverna's balcony. Thank you Maria and Adonis, Alix and Yonatan
Victor Hugo wrote in the Les Miserables novel: "a sight greater than the sea is sky, greater than the sky is the human soul". Strict harsh and mesmerizing beauty of southern Crete, where time slows down and even stops and eternity speaks to you. Also say, Crete can not drive the young, you may not have time to see the rest of the world. Blessed are those true Crete lovers, who have not yet been to Ligres. Ligres - is something magical! space and time there take another meaning. You can walk through a long beach, swim... being absolutely one watching sunset and sunrise! And if there are starlight moments in the world, then it is precisely them. There must be at least one night spend, and a better place than Villa Maria simply does not exist! Many thanks to the hospitable owners Maria and Andonis, who designed and built this Villa with their own hands, and their hard selfless work thanks to which, having been once, you will come back again and again. Paradise exists only in Heaven, but on Earth there are places that are very close to Paradise and Ligres with its Villa Maria is definitely one of such places. Complete zen state of mind.…
Villa Maria, at Ligres Beach, is the kind of experience one fantasizes about - a beautiful, secluded beach, a family-run resort with fantastic food, and almost no one else around to clutter the experience. We stayed for several days in a very clean, comfortable room, for a very economical price. I would recommend the sea view for sure! The pristine beach with deep, clear waters was steps away, and we were given recommendations for other amazing beaches as well. Besides the locale, there is a very comfortable veranda where meals are served. Without exception, we had the best food at Villa Maria on our entire trip! Tony and his family worked tirelessly to meet everyone's every need. It was a fantasy trip and we hope to return soon!
Stayed here for two weeks end of June start of July and Antonis and his family couldn’t have looked after me any better , great food great location friendly staff , accommodation is clean and well maintained and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will definitely return again , I hiked and walked and found Villa Maria the ideal base in which to explore the surrounding area , mostly unspoilt and not touched by mainstream tourism this is the ideal place to get away from it all, 10 out of 10 without a doubt
This week we had lunch in this ‘tavern’. The view is beautiful, the food good (dessert from mama!), and the service great. This is how life must be. If you have the change we recommend a visit. J&G Holland
If you want the hustle and bustle of the city then this place is not for you. Ligres is a beautiful serene beach with relatively few tourists. We were there at the beginning of the season and saw hardly a soul. Maria’s place is comfortable and the rooms have wonderful sea views. The beach to the right is quieter than the main beach and the coloured stones along it are truly beautiful. Adonis was easy to communicate with and did his best to accommodate our every need. Maria’s cooking is amazing and Suzy also looked after us so well. The weather was not great for swimming, so we went on a few day trips and visited the nearby bays and beaches, which were also very beautiful. We visited in April when the meadows were full of wild flowers. This area is only suitable if you have a car. I highly recommend Ligres Beach and Villa Maria.…
We landed on Ligres Beach based on a recommendation from a staff member from our hotel in Rethymno. The beach has a true "lonely planet" or "end of the world" feeling. Even in August there a few people and it shows the real Crete much better than places like Balos or Elafounissi. For lunch we could choose between the taverna that is located directly on the beach, which had the atmosphere of a paradise for dropouts or hippies, or Villa Maria, that lies 50 meter before somewhat uphill. We choose the last and we were not disappointed. Antonis is an excellent host, food is fresh and has a wonderful taste and prices are more than fair. The view from the terrace is breathtaking. Thanks, Toni and team, for a fantastic lunch!
