A very pleasant place to stay. The rooms were nicely furnished and the beds very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well situated for all the local tavernas, beaches and shops. The bus route for Rethymnon is roughly a ten minute walk, as are the local beaches. Some of the rooms look out on the residential area which is ok if you want to see a slice of Cretan life but less so if you need an early or quiet night. We did request a room change and the staff responded immediately. There is a pleasant pool area and plenty of sun beds for when the summer weather kicks in. We were less fortunate as it can be windy and wet in October. However there is excellent wi fi and it’s possible to order takeaway deliveries from a couple of places nearby if you don’t fancy going out. Good value and definitely a place to return to.

This hotel is excellent in every way. Every where is spotlessly clean. Very pleasant and efficient staff. The room and beds very comfortable and everything you need for bed and breakfast. The bathroom was the first time in many years of going abroad that was spotlessly clean first class.

The Apollon is a lovely place to stay and very good for a 3 star hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a little shop on site which is handy, although I never was sure when it would be open or closed! Air con is very reasonable at €70 for 8 nights. I think the safety deposit box was about €12. The staff provided us with an extra room key when we asked, which we appreciated. We decided not to have the breakfast because I can’t handle that much white carbs!! If it had included a wholegrain option I probably would have gone for it because there were also hot items plus fresh fruit and veg. Our studio room was relatively spacious with a nice modern bathroom. Kitchen equipment was limited and there was no sieve, which made draining pasta awkward. The balcony was a nice space to sit out for breakfast, although ours didn’t have much of a view. Our room was cleaned regularly. The pool area is the jewel in the Apollon’s crown: a gorgeous bougainvillea makes a natural canopy and is just stunning. The pool is spotlessly clean and a good size. It is the same depth throughout (waist depth). I hope to stay at the Apollon again and would happily recommend it to other travellers.

The Apollon is a small aparthotel with a lovely pool. That's the positive bit. The room we had was adequate and had comfortable single beds, but our room backed onto a residential housing estate and was noisy on a daily basis with scooters, teenagers with fireworks, dogs barking and people arguing. The balcony had no view and was devoid of any sun at any time of the day. The room lacked storage for clothes and the floors were not clean. Breakfast was very hit and miss. Advertised as being available between 8 and 11 but no food or very little left after 9.30. Monotonous offerings anyway so only went three times. I found the staff cold and unfriendly, and the snacks offered by the pool side were grim. There was absolutely no nighttime atmosphere by the bar at night and it was flat and disappointing to say the least. Sunbeds and space very cramped with the usual brigade of bed hoggers you find anywhere! The Apollon is a fair walk to the beach along a busy road so be prepared if your mobility is compromised or you have young children. Finally, be aware that when you check out of your room on the day of departure at 12.00 that you will not be offered anywhere to shower or change clothing before your flight home. As we were not leaving the hotel until 20.00, we were forced to change in the communal toilet by the pool. We did not find our stay at the Apollon quiet or relaxing and for that reason we will not be back.

Stayed for 10 days wish it had been longer, lovely Hotel in a nice quiet part of Rethymnon. I could not recommend it more. I do not usually travel to the same place twice I would make an exception for the Apollon. Staff wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. Clean and tidy even the local Black stray one eyed cat made us feel welcome.

Spent 12 days here and loved every minute of it. Lovely studio apartment, cleaned regularly and spacious. Lovely pool with bar and nice choices at breakfast. All staff were extremely helpful, friendly and courteous we didn’t want to leave…..thank you all. Bus services great and Rethymno main town is lovely, lots of little streets with authentic Greek tavernas. So much to explore so did the open top bus tour, which was fab! The local high street is also packed with bars, restaurants and shops - highly recommend Finikas restaurant. Lovely beaches accessed from Main Street. Overall we loved Crete, made lots of new friends from Bournemouth to Australia, so many memories made 🥰. On conclusion highly recommend Crete and booking Apollon apartments.

Just got back from a 2 week stay in the Apollon Apartments. We travelled as part of a family group of 11. The rooms we found to be basic, but ok. I often struggle to sleep in hotel beds, but slept fairly well here. Breakfast was limited, but adequate. Storage however, is a massive problem. There is only 1 wardrobe in the bedroom, which has 2 very small drawers in. As a couple, we coped. We hung our clothes and then used the bed in the lounge area for the underwear and things we couldn't hang. The girls room (4 sharing) was chaos. Those sleeping in the lounge area had to live out of their cases opened out on the floor. There is enough space for a couple of sets of drawers (under the tv, next to the fridge) so this is a shame. There is no fan in the bathroom which means the mirror is unusable after even the coolest of showers even if the tiny widow is opened. This is causing damage to the mirror. The maid came in 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday to empty the bins and mop. Each time the room smelt of urine after she had left, which only left as the room aired over the day. I didn't hear and couldn't see (I was in the room twice when she came in) water in her mop bucket and am guessing the same damp mop was flitted around all the rooms without ever being rinsed. There are some strange pipes sticking up in the corner of the bedroom and lounge area. It would be great if these could be properly capped or sorted out as I was imagining all sorts crawling out of them. The pool was clean and nice, most of the sun beds were good and the children enjoyed the games area Air con was €6 a day, which we all paid for. I think if this was included in the price, most people would close their windows and all the issues of outside noise would be eradicated, as the noise insulation was amazing once they were sealed. Jack, the barman is a hero. He made the evenings fun, engaging with the children (well young adults) and having a laugh. Nothing was too much trouble and he often went the extra mile to make everything perfect. Our problem happened on the night Jack wasn't working. The lady who owns the hotel was lovely and chatty to us as we sat around the bar drinking, but then thought it was ok to corner the children and threaten them with the police for playing hide and seek. I felt this was unnecessary. The game was very quiet and if she had any problem with how the children were behaving, she should have spoken to us, the parents. From then on the evenings were difficult. We couldn't relax. The owner told one of the parents that everyone should be quiet from 11pm....when the bar opens to 1, which makes no sense. Close the bar and people won't sit around it and chat! I think she has to have a serious think as to the type of hotel she wants to run. This feels more like an over 50's hotel, not a family hotel and we will not be staying again. Had it not been for Jacks supreme effort in hospitality I would have given the holiday rating a 1

What a lovely laid back hotel. It is situated just away from the village "strip" but is still within a 10 minute walk of it all. Rethymnon is about 40 minutes walk, and the Old Town a little further. The staff are very friendly, always have time to answer your queries, and if you do have any problems ( we had an electrical outage one morning, and a hairdryer that blew) they are very prompt in sorting it out. Our room had plenty of kitchen bits n bobs to see you through 2 weeks self-catering, although with the amount good food available nearby we found that besides breakfast and the odd salad at lunchtime, we hardly ate in. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom was modern. The pool is of a reasonable size and there are plenty of sunbeds to go round ( although the premium spots always seemed to have the same towels draped on them!) Everything is kept spotless, and the bed linen and towels were changed very regularly. The one downside was the 2am wake up call by the local roosters ( yes, more than one) followed by the barking dogs, and various other farmyard noises. We didn't sleep well at all. Our room, 221, was at the back, looking on the surrounding farms. Would we go back? Yes but maybe not to that room.
