We love coming to La Stella, it’s the perfect place for our family. Small and friendly with wonderful staff - Babis especially! Our kids love the pool and the chocolate milkshakes - it’s all they really talk about. A great place to use as a base to explore the island, the team are always happy to give you the best tips on what beaches etc to check out. Definitely be returning for another wonderful holiday in the future!

    Lovely accommodation
We had a lovely stay at La Stella! Mostly because of the wonderful staf!! We had so much fun with the bartender. The rooms were also very nice and quite big. The only thing we didn't like was how far it was from the old town of Rethymnon. You can however take the bus for €1.20 or a taxi for €9. Allover we loved this accommodation and I would definitely recommend it!!

La Stella - a really wonderful stay
Natasha and Babis were the perfect hosts and the rest of the staff kept the hotel exceptionally clean. The breakfast sets you up for the day and snacks are available from the bar. Its a short walk into the town and beach with plenty of restaurants on the way. We will certainly be returning in the future.

Just spent a week at la stella , first of all let me say the staff are fantastic and really helpfull. But the biggest problem for me was the noise from the road which doesn’t stop even at night , if your looking for quiet this isn’t the place for you . If your using the hotel as a base and not spending much time there you can’t go wrong but if not I wouldn’t use . Just read the negative reviews make your own mind up because the description of the hotel seems pretty accurate generally. Let me reiterate that the staff are what makes this place and without them it wouldn’t exist . Remember you are on two main roads and it’s VERY NOISY

I’d booked a 1bed apartment at La Stella in January 2022 for a 5-night stay in August. We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of Friday morning - the main door was unlocked, and we found an envelope with our name, key card, and directions to our room on the front desk. As soon as we entered room 106, I knew it was not the room I had booked. Instead, it was an exceedingly small studio. Given the time, lack of staff presence and after travelling for hours with a toddler, we didn't see much option and decided to sleep in the room we'd been given. The next morning, I went to reception to resolve this issue and found myself in a queue behind a family who had also arrived when we did to a room they had not booked and was far too small for their needs. When I spoke to a member staff, I was told I'd need to wait for the manager to arrive. When the manager finally arrived, he informed me that the hotel was at capacity as it was high season, but that they would move us to a bigger room the next day (Saturday) and I should return to reception after 4pm to confirm this with whoever would be working then. When I returned after 4pm, I met a member of staff called Babbis - a man not cut out for the world of hospitality. Rude, unempathetic and incredibly unhelpful. He had no knowledge of the conversation I had had earlier that day with the manager and proceeded to tell me we would have to remain in the studio and receive the difference in the room rates back. When I tried to explain that I had been planning this trip for a year and that our treatment since our arrival had been unreasonable and unsatisfactory, he did not even batter an eyelid. I decided to follow things up by email, so I had a paper trail of all communication with the management team. They confirmed that we would not be able to move rooms on Saturday (bear in mind check-in was Thursday and we were only to be there for 5 nights) but that a room would be available on Sunday. On Sunday morning I went to reception to enquire about moving rooms and was taken to what should have been our new room but was beyond disappointed to find that it was too not the room that I had booked 8 months prior. At this point I was deflated, frustrated, and upset. I insisted that they find us a room or refund us our money as this whole situation was impacting on the enjoyment of our stay. And not only that, there was very little in the way of an apology and no sign of compensation given the fact that we were the ones affected by all of this. After making it abundantly clear what my position was, after 90mins I was shown to a room that my family and I moved into, 3 days after our arrival date. Errors can happen but the manner in which they are dealt with is of the utmost importance. I feel that La Stella are in the business of making money (given the amount of people I met who experienced something similar to us) and not providing a quality customer experience for all. As a result, I would never ever choose to spend my hard earned money on this establishment, nor could I recommend it. I rarely write reviews but often book accommodation based on them, so if you are reading this and are considering booking this property, just be aware that you may not get what you pay for.

We've booked 2 studios (4 people), hoping for nice hols after 3 years. Unfortunately there was only 1 room available when we arrived. We were given 2 choices - 2 people go to another hotel or we have extra mattress on the floor in 1 room. The owner Giorgos did come to explain the error but that's the last time we saw him. So 2 of us had to stay in another hotel for 4 nights. On 5th day we were all put into 1 apartment and told that we can have 220 Euros compensation but have to sign a letter that we will not say anything to travel agency and will not write negative review. The whole set up is a mess. Every guest had the same issue, same complaints all around. This place is very lucky to have Babis, Natasha and the rest of staff that keep this going. The area is great, beach was beautiful but no La Stella ever again. Also, would be lovely to mention that if you are booking half board there is no restaurant on premises. Not a problem if weather is good, but be mindful if it's raining this is the only option. Rooms are basic but clean. And as mentioned in previous reviews, yes it is very tight walk around the pool. Slippery and super narrow.

I booked into La Stella after staying in Atermono which is their sister hotel knowing it was a lot cheaper and not the same quality but nevertheless maybe the same values. I was wrong. The ‘suite’ I booked and requested a sofa bed as well as a double wasnt that and I had to walk across the pool very slippy with my luggage to get to the room. The first night I was locked in my bathroom because no one told me the lock was broken so I had to scream out of the window for help for 45 minutes. I was eventually let out by the barman who was lovely but sadly he told me the same thing happened the night before to another girl in my room. The next day I requested to change rooms and was told there were non. I showed the staff member on booking.com that had I wanted to book a room that day there were 7 options available. Reluctantly I was showed another terrible room, which I refused, and then again only on the permission of the manager to a decent room, the same price as I had initially paid as I checked on booking.com. It really annoyed me as I’d paid the price of someone who had a far better room and was being refused even a decent room change when an external customer could have at that moment booked a better room than me. The staff are lovely but overworked. They can’t be everywhere all at once and it shows. This place is nice but not if you get the awful rooms. The breakfast is also really poor. The staff are the only good thing about this place as they clearly have so many things to juggle and try their best but still sadly, we’re dishonest with me about no rooms available.

We stayed for 2 weeks at the end of June in a suite. The rooms were good with comfy beds and sofas. We had a large fridge, kettle and a hot plate Breakfast was good quality, a good choice and plentiful. There is a pool which is well maintained. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Natasha helped us choose our day trips and did the bookings for us. Babbis was the perfect barman and made excellent recommendations for local restaurants. Ireena (also known as Toasty) looked aftercus well and we enjoyed teaching her new English words and putting the world to rights. We would definitely stay again at this hotel.

We have just returned from a two week stay at La Stella and absolutely loved it! The staff all work so hard and despite being exceptionally busy manage to make you feel welcome and give service with a smile. The hotel itself is lovely and kept beautifully clean, beds and towels changed regularly and good breakfast provided. The real gems however are the staff… Babis & Natasha work so hard on the bar & reception tending to guests needs & the ladies keeping the rooms clean… we can’t wait to come back! Μπράβο La Stella
