Our overall experience of this hotel was very good during two weeks in June 2022. We will consider this hotel for a revisit to Rethymnon, mainly because of the location, friendly staff and value for money. +Very good value for money. +Perfect location in the city center, but on a more quiet one-way street. Shopping, restaurant, cafes, the beach - everything is within 5 minutes walking distance. +Comfortable room (standard size double room on the 4th floor) with a nice balcony, air conditioning (free of charge), fridge, TV, free Wifi and a comfortable bed. Everything we needed except a coffee/tea-maker in the room. However, there is a bar in the reception area and 24 hour service at the reception if you need anything. +Our room was clean (regular daily cleaning during our stay). The entire hotel was clean even if it needs some refurbishment. +Very friendly staff! Very helpful, polite and service minded. +Good breakfast with a fairly good selection of hot (eggs & bacon) and cold food, and some tasty pastries. Very good local yoghurt and fruit. The coffee machine was not top notch, but we could get excellent coffee at several cafés close by. There was only one kind of juice available. +A rooftop pool with a beautiful view. (however, the rooftop bar was closed the whole time we were there. Get your drinks at the reception). Please note that there is no lifeguard or staff at the pool area. +A beautiful hotel backyard/garden, where you can have breakfast or just relax. Some negative remarks: -This hotel needs some refurbishment to meet the standard of newer 4 star hotels, especially the bathroom which was 100% functional but worn. -The bathroom is very small. We had to stand (or sit) in a very narrow and short bathtub in order to have a shower. If was difficult to keep my balance in the bathtub because it was so narrow. And it was equally difficult/ not possible to sit down for a grownup. Maybe suitable for a small child? We are both of average hight and weight, but struggled. We bought non-slip bath mats at the local super market to put in the bathtub. -The walls are thin and we could hear people pass outside our room, and people speaking in the other rooms. We were woken up a couple of times because other hotel guests were arriving during the night and talking loudly outside our room. But all in all, noise was not a problem during our stay and this is not a “party” hotel but a quiet and family friendly hotel for all age groups. -Wifi had poor speed/quality for normal surfing and streaming. Use your own mobile connection if you can.…
This is a great hotel, not too expensive and offers everything we needed for our 10day holiday. If ur booking I would ask for a room on the 5th floor, preferably rooms 503, 506, 509 as these have the best views of the harbour. Half the hotel faces the back overlooking the hotels outside dining area but also adjacent buildings. If ur wanting a quiete night's sleepn I would go for these. Traffic noise from the fifth floor where we were wasn't that bad but could be a problem if ur facing the road on the lower floors. It's a 10 min walk at max to the heart of the old town, about 3 mins to the start of it. There are many many bars, shops and restaurants. The hotel doesn't have any parking spaces, if ur renting a car and don't feel comfortable parking in side streets or don't want to pay up to 14 euro na day this isn't the hotel for you. We found parking the worst bit. At certain hours 6 to 8pm. It is the worst and we had a 15 min walk from numerous carparking spaces. It was a bit of fun finding a place to park!!. Their are spaces but u need to drive around for up to 15 mins. The main marina carpark is about 14 euro a day, and about 5 mins walk away, there's a second carpark about 100 meters further away, still in the marina but that charges less, we were charged about 6 euro from 6pm to 11am. Breakfast was good with plenty of selection, no brown sauce if ur British. Plenty of selection though. Staf couldn't do more to help and we're very friendly. Out room was great not 5* but it's not a 5* hotel and they fixed within the day the faulty lock on our balcony door. The hotel qnd entire area felt safe. We didnt use the safe that was in our room, but we think you would need to pay a little for that. Our room had a fridge, so we're able to fill it with wine, chesse, bread and salad etc. There are at least 2 large supermarkets near by that have everything u would need The pool area on the 6flr is good for couples. But not for young children, plenty of sun beds. Overall we had a wonderful stay, a great place and base to explore central Crete…
My friend and I really enjoyed our stay at the Achillion Palace and were very grateful to the reception staff for their help in pointing us in the right direction for our pre-departure Covid test, the pick-up point for our shuttle and, not least, in sorting out problems with our holiday company who decided to try and cancel our booking on the last night! We were very impressed with both the cleanliness of the pool area, and indeed our room and all communal areas and the care taken over ensuring that guests were kept safe in the breakfast area with the provision of disposable gloves for use when selecting from the buffet and hand sanitisers available on every table .A big thank you to all the staff for a very enjoyable week's stay.
My friend and I had a very comfortable week here. Our room was clean and spacious with a balcony and en suite bathroom. The hotel is a few minutes walk from a lovely beach or towards the town centre and the dozens of bars and restaurants to while away the warm evenings. The rooftop pool is very clean and cool on a hot day with plenty of tables, chairs and sun loungers. It is a real sun trap though and can get very hot up there. We found mid to late afternoon to be thee perfect time for a swim and to relax after the intense heat of the midday sun had eased. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice from a hot and cold buffet, section of teas and coffee and my favourite, fresh fruit. What really impressed us were the Covid precautions in place, the requirement to wear a mask, provision of hand sanitiser and disposable gloves before being allowed to serve yourself. The staff on reception were so helpful, from answering our questions about the area, showing us where the nearest ATMs and the laboratory where our required PCR test before flying home could be taken, to helping with confirming our pick up time and place for our transfer back to the airport. Overall a lovely holiday in a very pretty town.…
the hotel is crying out for renovations as it has 4 stars. But the staff is kind, extremely clean, you will get help for everything you need. Breakfast is modest but sufficient. The pool is great with a nice view . The pool is great with a nice (a great solution when there are big waves in the sea) view although upstairs you could do a bar or at least on call
The hotel is partially renovated, located near the old town, quite a distance from the beach. If you go ask for rooms in upper floor 4th or 5th. Recommending 301 - 303 with little sea view. They are new. Rooms are ok, clean but equipment is old and the carpet in the hall has a smell of old stuff. The personnel is very helpful and nice. A small outdoor pool on the upper terrace is nice as well. Theiiner garden, where they serve quite a rich breakfast, is their strong point!
Breakfast was very poor and not fresh! They were doing constructions in the upper floors (while having guests), and I couldn’t sleep. If they have things to do they shouldn’t be opened! My bathroom’s ventilation didn’t work. Plus the stuff was not polite!
We loved this old palace. Some of the rooms have some interesting artifacts and the main staircase is spectacular but the real delight comes from the gardens and the stunning views. There is some interesting statuary including the giant Achilles although the much smaller wounded Achilles is far more beautiful
Lovely hotel in a great location. In easy reach of both the old town and the beach. The hotel was quiet, due to coronavirus, which meant the rooftop pool area was quiet and the bar wasn't open, but I imagine it has a good buzz in normal times. We enjoyed it regardless and the views of the town are good. Breakfast was good and served with a smile. Beds are comfortable and the room was very clean. What really stood out for us was the staff. All very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
I did a walk in - wasn’t sure where I was going and not having WiFi on my phone I could not book ahead No problem. Comfy room. Great breakfast. The hotel even helped me receive a call from travel agent due to virus cancelled Italian flight - that was really nice as -again- no phone chip in phone ! Love these coastal Cretan towns
