Jo-An Palace is a recently fully renovated hotel in the very heart of Rehtymno. All rooms have balconies, we were lucky as we could see the sea and the beautiful park from ours.
The hotel staff is extremely kind and attentive, our rooms were cleaned daily and all COVID related safety standards were highly observed.
A big thanks to Maria who took great care of us at breakfast and dinner everyday, giving us tips and carefully listening to stories that she probably heard a thousand times. The food was of good quality, a good balance of meat and vegetarian options and the menu did not repeat itself once.
And of course, the rooftop swimming pool cannot go unmentioned ! Enough space for everyone with a great view of the city.

The rating relates to the travel period August 2021 (Corona) and room 115, traveling as a couple without children. Normal requirements for equipment and food, no luxury travelers.
Hotel in general
Completely renovated and very stylish, chic and modern, rooms, restaurant, bar and pool area.
Few parking spaces in front of the hotel but about a 2-5 minute walk public parking lot day ticket 5 euros.
As it seems usual in Greece, the safe in the room costs extra, towels from the room are not allowed to be taken to the pool, some can be borrowed for a fee.
Since the pool can also be used by non-hotel guests, it is unfortunately not possible to use it spontaneously, either you reserve in the morning with your towels or at the reception.
Because of the non-hotel guests the pool occasionally becomes a children's pool when 10 small children practice swimming and diving.
Very central location, the old town and the beach can be reached quickly.
Meal
Breakfast as a buffet was completely sufficient.
Dinner as a buffet, salad and desserts very tasty, main courses relatively little choice and not our taste.
Unfortunately, the food was also not labeled.
Half board does not include drinks, 1 liter of carbonated water and 2 wine costs 12.5 euros.
Corona requires disposable gloves and wearing a mask at the buffet, but this was disregarded by many guests and unfortunately tolerated by the staff.
The atmosphere in the restaurant area is calm and relaxed.
Room 115 Standard Room
First floor and balcony to the street
If possible, take a room on a higher floor to have a better view and more quite.
In the case of small things, the design was more important than the function, so you can only switch on the light in the bathroom next to the entrance door, the shower partition is too narrow, the entire bathroom gets wet when you shower, no doormat in the bathroom.
The room was very badly soundproofed both from the street and from the hotel hallway.
The beds are very comfortable only the pillows were too hard for us.

Having just returned from a 14 night stay at Jo-An Palace hotel, Rethymnon, we needed to leave a review. The position of the hotel is in easy reach of the Old town, harbour, fortress and the promenade beach front, all flat walking. On arrival check in was very quick, we arrived very late but the reception is manned 24 hours and the reception staff are very friendly and speak excellent English, we were left sandwiches and crisps and bottled water in the room because we missed dinner, this was much appreciated. The bedrooms are very similar with air conditioning, the beds are very comfortable with sheets and duvets, shower very powerful with hot water any time of day, towels, bathrobes, slippers toiletries and hairdryer provided. Friendly house keeping service the rooms everyday keeping them clean. We recommend a garden view room very quiet. Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style, the breakfast had excellent choice of continental and hot food, cold juice, water and hot drinks served from a machine, dinner lots of fresh salads, hot food or you would say warm food small choice but the desserts choice was better also, apples, oranges and bananas always available. The waiting and kitchen staff work hard to make a pleasant dining experience. The head waitress is an excellent ambassador for the hotel, making time to greet every guest. The bar is well stocked, this also sells food and snacks, once again all the bar staff were very friendly and efficient. The rooftop swimming pool and bar with seating area and very comfortable sunbeds was kept spotlessly clean. The view from the rooftop is amazing.

Disappointed! Booked half board for August. Rang hotel and advised we are vegetarian family they assured there will be varieties. Whole hotel is recently refurbished and family room specially was specious and was giving feeling of 4 star. However utterly disappointed with limited food options, even after suggesting them for some vegetarian dishes almost same menu everyday for us we end up having food outside for the time. Considering in Greece at this time expect some cooling deserts but no ice creams... You have to order water bottle but can not be served tap water in the evening ( can have it in morning) same deserts until they run out and then new dishes can come out(often 3 days )
Staff was excellent, when advised of our late arrival, they suggested and left snack box in the fridge for is, which was great gesture, they even accommodated our request for late check out.
Room cleaning is every 3 days unless you advise them a day before. We had broken glass and I been given broom to clean myself(past midnight), and yet no room services next day, because we haven't advised them a day before !!
Overall OK experience but I would not recommend anyone to consider full board/ half board in this place. Even for non vegetarian you will be seeing only 6/7 dishes and same salad bar daily. 5/6 deserts and no ice cream or any such delicacies.. you will end up paying for drinks and water too. And yes no tea/coffee in the room.

Really welcoming staff at this hotel they cannot do enough for you. The ladies on reception were brilliant and organised our Covid tests for our return. nothing was too much trouble for them. Maria and all the other restaurant and bar staff were also really friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. The hotel itself is definitely 4 star and we found it was nicely located for the old town , the beach was only a 10/15 min walk away . The pool on the roof is an added bonus to cool down and has lovely views towards the sea. The food is good although as the same in all half board hotels it can become a bit repetitive but there are some lovely restaurants where food is relatively cheap. A lovely hotel to stay in away from the crowded beach front ones.

We loved staying at this hotel . Firstly it is a 5 minute walk into the old town which is really handy. Secondly the staff are so friendly and helpful especially the reception staff. We really liked the refurbished rooms and the simplicity of them . The pool area and the views from it are great . Whilst we couldn’t park around the street near the hotel ( it was busy) there was a public car park next door that you can park in except on a Thursday as it’s market day. If you ask the kiosk people in the car park they will give you a daily ticket for 5 Euros rather than an hourly one which would be expensive . We will definitely return.

We popped in for a drink before dinner and ordered two aperol spritz from a very grumpy waiter. Nice drink, bad service. The bar felt unwelcoming and uncomfortable. A small additional point, although the bar snacks are free, it’s helpful not to include one or two unshelled pistachios in a bowl of salted nuts! It’s an unwelcome surprise!

We stayed here at the end of July and we only have nice words about this hotel. The location is excellent, 5 minutes walk to the old town and 15 minutes to the beach.
The hotel was renovated in 2019-2020, so everything looks great. We had a triple room on the 4th floor, large and comfortable (that was cleaned daily), with a nice balcony. The air conditioning worked perfectly, as did the wifi.
Although we arrived very late at the hotel, after 11 pm, they informed us that we had dinner in the fridge. In the same way, when we wanted to leave early in the morning to explore the island, they provided us with a packed breakfast. That helped us a lot.
We also liked the food which is very good and varied, but you should also try the food from the local taverns.
A special thanks to Ms. Maria, who made us feel like home, talking to us like old friends, giving us tips on places to visit. Dear Maria, you are such a special person! As we told you, you are the salt and pepper of this hotel!
PS: We appreciated that all Covid rules were followed.

Beautiful looking hotel recently refurbished. It is in a built up area no scenic views from your room. There is a roof top swimming pool with bar and loungers where there is scenic views. Room clean and fresh really appreciate the AC which is quite. Large fridge and safe in a cupboard.
Towel and bath robes have clearly passed their use by date. Fraying edges on towels and holes in bath robes.
Food breakfast, lunch and dinner is buffet style. although there is variety, hot food is warm. Tea coffee warm. I would suggest not to book all inclusive. There are lots of eateries within walking distance from the hotel where you can have authentic Cretan food and pizza etc. Directly opposite the entrance to the hotel across the road, there is a mini supermarket. (closed on Sunday's ).
Staff friendly and accommodating. A few snags with my room ie bathroom door scraping on the floor making a loud noise when open/shutting, maintenance man fixed it within a couple of hours. 🤗
Website says kettle and tea/coffee facilities in room. That is not the case you have to request it when you arrive at the hotel.
A lovely hotel to stay in. I would recommend and visit again.

We stayed here for 4 nights as a couple. Rethymno itself is so lovely but I found the Hotel was a little more basic than we were expecting. Pool is nice enough, as is the bar and breakfast area. However, the rooms are very average. The bed was simply two singles pushed together and we kept finding black hairs everywhere. Further to this, we also found our safe and shower didn’t work and asked for them to take a look- which they never did. As a result, we found ourselves hiding our passports and using the small handheld shower. If you’re not too fussed on where you lay your head, this Hotel is fine, but personally I was expecting it to be nicer than it was.
Some positives I will mention- the Hotel is in a great location (5-minute walk from the old town) and the staff were always polite and friendly.
