We rented a car at the Heraklion airport to drive a little over an hour to Rethymno. Upon our arrival the manager explained to us that no breakfast would be served but that all the breakfast items would be in our apartment for self service. Also the room cleaning schedule was reduced and we were not allowed to be in the apartment -not even on the balcony- whilst the cleaning took place. We were so pleasantly surprised with our "Executive Suite" (1 bedroom). It was bright and spacious, perfectly laid out with a gorgeous balcony. The view was just stunning, we couldn't get enough of those sunsets. The pool looked nice too but we didn't use it. Sun chairs were always available. Obviously the hotel was half full at the best. Although it is close to a main road any noise from it was drowned out by the sound of the waves. We are not beach people but we watched some go into the water right across from the street. To go to a real beach you would need a car. On the other side it was just a short walk to the charming city center with plenty of shops and restaurants. We didn't like that we had to make our own breakfast as my husband likes his fried eggs, bacon and so on. We always cleaned up the cooking mess ourselves because we were not sure if the cleaning ladies would take care of it. There was a dishwasher but not enough dishes to fill it and it seemed to be a waste to run it just about empty. It was nice though to have the option to prepare a lunch or a dinner once in a while for ourselves. The staff was very friendly and catered for us very well. We would have loved to stay longer than the 2 weeks we had booked. This is a place where one could spend months on end!

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel and had a great time - the hotel enjoys a great location with fantastic views and a pleasant 15 minute stroll to the Old Town in Rethymno. The staff were helpful and friendly and the spa was excellent and very reasonably priced. A lovely pool and a great breakfast made this a hotel we will try to visit again.

I returned from spending 8 nights here mid September. The weather was amazing, not too hot but still around 27/28 degrees each day. We arrived at 10.45PM and were offered an upgrade to a 2 bed suite with hot tub, this wasn't is use. There were 2 of us so didn't need the upgrade but felt it was a nice touch. The accommodation was very clean and spacious, bed was very comfy and the staff from the housemaids, reception and waiting staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a leisurely event not starting until 8.30, after all we were on holiday and plenty to choose from although sometimes the fried eggs ran out. I am not sure how busy it would be mid summer but we found no problem. The location is approx. 25 mins walk into the main old town and a little further for the seafront restaurants, however this didn't phase us and we enjoyed our walk there to build up our appetite. I wouldn't return but only because I feel Rethymnon is too far from the historical sites, however this was exactly the holiday my hubby & I were looking for. Well done to all the staff, they really know how to make you feel welcome.

I love the Macaris. It was beautiful, relaxing and the staff were all completely lovely. The pool is to die for, as is the food and wait staff. Everyone was highly accommodating and helpful. I feel like I came home with new friends. Bravo! Job well done. Hope to visit one day again.

Had a very pleasant stay with them early in September to sort out some business. We arrived early, and not only were we allowed to check in early, we also got a free upgrade to another suite. The suite hat a living room with open kitchen, and a sleeping room separated from it. Both rooms had access to a quite large terrace with seating and vice of the sea and Fortezza. The bathroom and toilet were large enough - spa hottub with integrated shower. The state of the suite was excellent, and everything was kept extremely clean - even the terrace went through daily wet cleaning (!) - impressive and very welcome. Breakfast starts a bit late (if you need it early make sure you announce it the day before), but offers a splendid choice of fresh fruits, sausages, toasts, bread, cheese, local delikatessen, everything. Hot and cold drinks are made on demand and included in the buffet. Their outdoor pool is big enough, and they have a smaller one next to it as well - ideal for infants/very young kids, the terrace itself offers a few deckchairs, too - enough space for everyone. The location is excellent, too. Only about 10-15 minutes walk into the centre without the constant noise.
