We went to Crete last week and stayed in our friends apartment in Plakias but back in May I did a bit of research and decided that I would book 2 nights 3 days at a beach front resort so it would split the holiday up , my daughter had been a holiday rep a few years ago and said to me you need to go to Rethymno as you are about 50 minutes drive from the apartment to this resort so this hotel was about 3.5 km just outside. We are well travelled people and go to many different style of hotels throughout the world all five star and we go away many times a year, so What I am trying to say is I think we have a good idea of how a hotel should be run and what the level of service and how good the food is. So we arrived to a wonderful welcome off a lovely lady called Dimitria and we were asked to go and sit on the terrace where we were given the most beautiful tray of welcome drinks as you will see in the photo. Our room wasn’t ready as we were there at 10.30 am so we said that’s fine we want to go to the beach. What a beautiful beach and the staff and waiters are all very friendly. We had lunch on the beach for the 3 days that we were there and it was superb quality. It was a busy resort with many families there staying in pretty beach bungalows. Now this wouldn’t ordinarily been our choice of hotel not having young children but you could relax on your sun lounger enough that you weren’t all packed in on the beach like sardines. We checked in to our sea view deluxe room after gin and tonics on the terrace later that day. What a welcome , wine fruit chocolates and cakes awaited us and a beautiful and well turned out room . Next morning we had a huge choice of breakfast and again good quality food. We had dinner one night at the Barossa fish restaurant, absolutely 5 star, we had a wonderful starter and a sea bass between us it was again wonderful service and with any 5 star restaurant we had all the delicacies and little tit bits etc before the meal. The hotel itself and the lobby is spacious and airy and beautifully designed and the cocktails and drinks are lovely. This is a real family resort but we had a fantastic three days here, would I go again yes I would , We are thinking of having a family bungalow with its own pool here next year and taking all our family, it’s very child friendly with water flumes and children’s clubs water sports etc... The other thing is you can buy food from the mini mart which is very well stocked if you feel it’s too expensive to go out every night and then you are just a stones throw from the beautiful Rethymno and that’s another review entirely . Crete captured a piece of our heart and we have been to many countries this year and years previous. The staff are just wonderful I cannot praise them enough.

We stayed at the Hotel between on the 2ed week of Aug Room Type - Deluxe Family Bungalow Ground Floor 2 Adults 3 Children - ages 12 , 10 , 4 About the resort: Beautiful location Lobby its very open and displayed a wonderful view from the pool or and beach Warm reception including drinks and personal explanation about the facilities including walking with you to the room and making sure everything is to your liking. even the manager of the hotel stopped by to personally say hello. Hotel and Room seems to have been renovated in the past few years and looks good, 2 bathrooms and showers . Need to remark children's room has no TV and both bathrooms had a total lack of simple bath towel hooks which made us change more towels then we needed. * would like to mention room is very clean ** would like to mention the resort is very clean in general Sea front - Beautiful and very easy to reach using specialized wood pathways. Note sea was very rough with strong waives specifically just after shore line so could enter with my 12 and 10 year old but my 4 year old son could not enter nor did my wife they stayed right on the shore line, lots of beautiful pebbles and stones to look at . On the beach front you have 2 options rent a kind of Cabana for the week or use the general seating area. We paid and took the Cabana: Taking your own Cabana means its there for you from about 8 to -18 in the evening set out with towels, beds just waiting for you, also when you arrive the waiters will set out water and fruits for you included. Main pool - 2 areas 1st especially deep about 2.5 M wonderful for jumping in and the other about 1 M deep , good size lots of chairs and shade Children’s pool : Has 2 water big slides and a toddler pool very nice and effective at keeping the kids busy and happy, right next to it you have a kids club with toys, games and activities for the Children Night time activity: 2 main areas , 1st just out the Lobby that usually has a Singer or band and even an opera group which they hosted from South Africa which was very pleasant. 2ed a open air theater for the family and kids with a different show every night and in general lots of activities for the kids. Dining - you can use the buffay for all meals or the 3 restaurants they have, we used the buffay only this way the kids could pick and choose what ever the want. the kids also had a kids corner with food basically from 11 - 18 which they could eat as much as they wanted ....and yes lots of ice-cream too:-) Buffet was good quality and deserts were exceptional . *Note all drinks are charged extra including water for Lunch and Dinner. The Crete Place Resort is very good hotel for a Family vacation, Stuff is very helpful kind and courteous and I especially want to point out Mr. Manolis Rokka the Front Desk Manger who was very helpful and professional --

We’ve just returned from holidays with a toddler in Creta Palace and will definitely go back. A lot has already been said about its high quality facilities, tasty & diverse cuisine and friendly staff. Our key takeaway though is the feeling of serenity and relaxation that hotels of such size rarely succeed in projecting. Namely, the hotel was at its full capacity during our stay and yet we never once felt it was being over-crowded or noisy. The activities and amenities are smartly dispersed around the site - especially for children- which enables both, quiet seclusion and more lively atmosphere depending on the taste. As for children activities, there are indeed plenty. The playroom/daycare and its staff were superb, especially Cristina, Georgia and Elly. Multilingual and endlessly kind, they would engage with children of all ages throughout the day only to continue with positive vibes in the evening at the kids’ dance floor and other entertainment shows. Finally, the lounge section at the bar on the fourth floor is the ultimate chill-out experience. Highly recommended. The only downside was a relatively small room (Beach View) for the price we paid, and not-so-comfortable bed. Definitely some investment needed here.

We stayed 14 nights and were three families with kids aged 3-10. We enjoyed our stay, the resort is well appointed and looks great overall and at minimum at the surface. The staff is consistently very kind, attentive and friendly. The buffet breakfast is of very high quality. We also enjoyed the outstanding service at the beach bar where we had lunch every day. The food was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Some areas of the resort are in need of renovation, other areas are top notch. The rooms near the kids pool need renovation and so does the kids pool (although the kids did not mind it and had a lot of fun). There are not enough sun beds at the pool and at the beach, because a large area is dedicated to cabanas for rent a relative high fee. The à-la carte restaurants we found to be over-priced and the service was very slow. We also had issues with getting a lower room category than the one we had reserved but at least the hotel ended up offering a solution, after complaining. We also had a yellow jacket nest in the kids room and found 4-5 yellow jackets in our room every day and the hotel could not be bothered to do anything about it. The beach has quite a lot of stones and is not a sandy beach like the pictures suggest. Overall we enjoyed the resort for its general look and feel.
