We were diverted to the Liberty Hotel when we arrived at our RCI Resort booking of a 1 bedroom condo at Grand Leoniki SPA Resort in the beach . (It was closed for the season) We were at first very stressed and disappointed to find we were relocated to a town in a 1 bedroom 3 star at best Hotel room with breakfast included. At first I didn’t think I could manage a whole week here. After a few days we realized we were in a great area. Lots to see, great restaurants and shops and a good setting off point for many attractions. The few other hotel guests, (all seemed to be Grand Leoniki displaced guests) were so friendly and fun to meet at breakfast. Breakfast was good. They had everything you would expect. They even cooked fresh eggs in the morning for us. Coffee was great. Fruit and yogurt and muslie is what I had. My husband had toast, jam, fruit, eggs, cheese, croissants and sausages. The hotel staff were amazing! Very helpful and so kind. They turned themselves inside out to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We even had hugs when we left. One day we drove back to the Leoniki to check out that area. We soon realized we were in a much better spot. Because it was off season, most everything in the area was closed and looking destitute and depressing. The beach was empty, there seemed to be no shopping and only a couple of eating places open. We realized we were in a much better location. I would definitely stay at the Liberty Hotel again, just not as an RCI exchange where I want a condo. You can’t beat the location and caring, helpful staff.…
Had good time here. Hotel was well placed in a great spot super close to the old town and the staff always tried to make the stay great. Some nights they showed up at my door to bring free wine or fruit bowls. I would happily recommend this spot again, particularly in the summer when the nearby beach would be walkable.
Although the hotel looks nice on photos, our experience wasn't that good. The receptionists woke us 3 times by mistake at night. And not once they said they were sorry. There is only one girl at reception that is normal and speaks english well, the others are not suitable to do their job and if I may say, they are stupid, they don't even know how to give you basic information. Room was clean, but wall was falling apart near our bed. Also, the matress had bed bugs which we found out later when we actually discivered that every morning when we woke up we had new bug bites on our bodies. Wifi was not working for 95% of time, breakfast was average. Overall, I would recommend people to use nearby hotels because we met people who were staying there and they had really good experience.
You have two categories of rooms (nice on the picture with modern furniture) and also old ones, smelling humidity and ugly. Food was so bad that after 3 days, we ate outside everyday even if we had half board. Everyday same breakfast, same dinner, same food. The swimming pool was dirty. The personal at the reception was rude. Also our shampoo and shower gel disappeared from our bottles. The last day we have the possibility to change and take a shower before living in late hour. They opened the staff's sanitary with a shower in the basement (it was like a closet and so dirty). Only positive things : if you have a nice room and the fact that the hotel is in the center of the city, just near the entrance in the old city of Rethimno
Good breakfast, friendly and good service. Good cleaning. The WiFi was medium, everything else were great. They have a gym in the basement. Running machine. Perfect. The hotell owner Dimitris is a legend.
