SENTIDO Pearl Beach sits on the northern coast of Crete overlooking the Aegean Sea. It's in a bustling resort, steps away from the beach and a short drive to the centre of the town of Rethymnon. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and is known for its beaches and archaeological sites. The hotel's interiors are bright and fresh with soft furnishings. Outside, there's a main swimming pool, a separate kids' pool and a surrounding sun terrace. Here you can relax with a drink from the poolside bar, or sit in the garden area with its palm trees that provide natural shade. The hotel has a gym and the spa has an indoor pool, whirlpool, Finnish sauna, steam room and massage rooms. The hotel is on the promenade that leads out to the historic centre of Rethymnon, and the sandy beach is in front of the hotel. The hotel has a private area on the beach reserved for guests. Rethymnon beach has been awarded a Blue Flag for cleanliness. A short stroll from the hotel you'll find several cafes...

Spent two weeks on half board and the food was excellent, plenty of choice and lots of it. On reflection, we could have stayed full board because we had a light lunch most days in the pool bar and found it to be less expensive than other local Tavernas. Over the road there is a private beach area where 2 sun loungers cost 6eu per day. The beach manager is great and provides food and drink service from the bar. As you go in the sea, the beach can be very pebbly so take beach shoes. All the staff are fantastic, but the Pool Bar & Restaurant staff were particularly good and very friendly. Housekeeping were faultless - very clean. There are some mosquitoes but the hotel provides plug in repellents. Very comfy rooms with air conditioning, good showers, spotlessly clean and quiet. The hotel was quiet and peaceful, until a very large & extremely noisy English party arrived - just bad luck I suppose!! It's a long walk to the town centre, don't try it in the heat but the old town is lovely. We took a day trip to Santorini from Rethymno, fabulous but very, very expensive for 5 of us. The Scuba Diving lesson with Kalypso Diving Centre is well worth it and great fun. A day trip to Knossos and Heraklion was interesting and good value. Only niggle is the hotel restaurant dinner dress code, where men have to wear long trousers. It's a strange "sexist" rule as the women can (and do) wear anything they like. Disappointing to see some men wearing "scraggy" tracksuit bottoms or decimated jeans, our boys took smart shorts and it was a shame they couldn't wear them there. No smoking areas would be good too, as some chain smokers kept sitting beside us, oblivious to their odious stink!! They weren't Greek so they should know better. But the excellent staff and facilities made the whole stay wonderful and we'd definitely recommend it.

I'm a wheelchair user so will give my review based on that. We were dropped off right outside the hotel, a ramp led us inside. We were asked to wait a while and brought a glass of orange juice. A lift in reception took us to our 1st floor room, no view to speak of it overlooked the dining room and was next to the cleaners' cupboard. We're early risers so they didn't disturb us. The room floor hadn't been swept, it was gritty as if someone had been on the beach. The walk in shower was very badly designed. It had a seat attached to the wall at one end with the shower head midway down the longer wall up a height of around 6ft with no rail to adjust its height. The water spilled out onto the bathroom floor making it very slippy so I had to keep turning the shower on/off to give chance for the water to soak away. I could only shower seated holding the shower in my hand. A raised toilet seat was provided but both myself and hubby found it dangerous to use. The two tightening screws didn't fit the seat securely and the seat itself was way too high. Other than the bathroom the room was comfortable, very comfy bed, kettle, fridge and air con. Our main gripe was the cleaning or lack of. Towels weren't always changed and we had to take dirty cups and glasses to reception as they'd not been changed for 2 days. On returning to our room one day after the cleaner had been in there was a strong smell of cigarettes. We're convinced the cleaner had been smoking in our room! She also managed to pull the socket off the wall, must have been from the hoover she didn't know how to use. This was later repaired. Other guests didn't seem to have a problem with their cleaners, we obviously got a bad one. The first time ever that we've not left a tip for the cleaner. The pool area was spotless but could benefit from a toilet nearby. It was a case of back to the room or go down a floor where there were ladies, gents and accessible toilet. There are plenty of lifts poolside and a couple of ramped areas. Steps into the pool were slippy, one lady fell. There's also a jewellers which opens in the evening. The guy there was very helpful, my hubby bought me 2 rings and the guy also kindly cleaned my wedding ring and resized my eternity ring. Towels are moved by staff if left out early and you're nowhere to be seen. One German family took turns guarding their beds whilst the rest of the family ate breakfast. Really? Yes, really! We hired towels at a deposit of €10 per towel, returned on handing in. Towels were changed on a Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday. The entertainment was good, something for everyone. The food was very good as was the service at the poolside bar. Popi and Peggy worked very hard and always had a smile. The area is very good for wheelchairs with a long, flat promenade leading right up into the old town. Half hour walk or €5 taxi. We're not beach lovers but the beach was accessible by ramp and areas of sand were boarded. There were also portaloos on the beach. Entrance to the sea is a steep slope with pebbles so not ideal for young children or anyone not too good on their feet. We loved Rethymnon but would choose a different hotel next time. Family run hotels are definitely much nicer.

Hello Sharon, We thank you for your detailed review and the time you spent to write down all experiences you made during your holidays in our SENTIDO Pearl Beach hotel. We are happy to read that you especially enjoyed the evening entertainment, the food in our restaurant as well as the friendly service at the pool bar. In our SENTIDO Pearl Beach hotel we have two rooms for handicapped persons, situated close to the elevator in the main building. They are equipped with drive in bathrooms and built according to the Greek law standards. Your comments about the cleaning in your room was passed on to our management. So far we never heard any complaints about cleaning staff smoking secretly in guests rooms, but we will keep an eye on this matter. We are sorry that you did not inform the reception during your stay. Best regards Uli Moosmann Holiday Concierge

Nice hotel, shower was fab. Great food served in the restaurant. Requested a late check out day before but it was declined so this was not ideal however there is a shower room you can use. Entertainment wasn't all that good on the evening it's pretty chilled. Beach is just across the road. Old town is nice reminds me of Lindos in Rhodes. Air con and in room safe free of charge. Good quiet hotel ideal for a quiet holiday.

There were many positive and negative points to this hotel: Positives= *cleaners were exceptional, we had a room that got messy with a 2 year old every day and it was made immaculate each day with fresh towels *Food was plenty to choose from and fresh but no basic food available if you are a 'fussy' eater. *all inclusive drinks were plenty to choose from including some cocktails. Served from 10:30-23:00. Now some negative points; *there was one member of of staff at the pool bar who was very miserable. I felt like I was asking for a favour each time we wanted a drink. She clearly didn't want to be there. The rest were in general very good and couldn't do enough for you. *there was no up front notification that long trousers were required for dinner. There were lots in our party that didn't have trousers so had to go to the local fashion shop to buy some. This should have been communicated up front. *really not ideal for children.

Good morning, and many thanks for choosing to stay at Sentido Pearl Beach and for taking the time to share your views and evaluation of our Hotel. We would also want to thank you for your positive comments about the quality and range of our food, the broad range of AI choices on drinks and spirits, including cocktails, and the high standards of cleanliness and hygiene which are the result of the work of our Housekeeping staff! We will pass your review on to Mrs Papamichelaki, Housekeeping Manager, and we are sure that the manager and the team will be delighted! We hear your negative point about the pool bar staff and we would want to note that so far, we have never received a negative comment about the attitude of our pool bar staff. However, we take your point seriously and we are closely monitoring the pool bar services with a view to correct such issues where found. The Dinner at Pearl Beach has a basic dress-code and long trousers are one of its rules; the dress-code is presented on all electronic and printed catalogues of all tour operators with who we cooperate, it is available on the website of the Hotel and there's also a large sign outside the entrance of the Restaurant. We regret that we don't advertise Pearl Beach Hotel as a classic 'Family & Kids' Hotel. Pearl Beach is a family-friendly Hotel, which offers basic services for families with kids (baby cot, children's pool, baby chair at the Restaurant) as well as one special event every two weeks (Tony's Magic Show), but we do not have an outdoors playground for children. Once more thank you for choosing Pearl Beach and for taking the time to post your review of our Hotel. With our best wishes from Rethymno, Crete.
