#25 of 187 hotels in Rethymnon
Travelers' Choice
SENTIDO Aegean Pearl is steps away from the sandy beach at Rethymnon, a town on the north coast of Crete. The hotel is a short drive to the east of the town centre, towards the end of a promenade that stretches several kilometres along the seafront to Rethymnon's marina. There's a main pool area at the front of the hotel, edged by palm trees, plus two smaller pools. Two of the pools have dedicated children's sections. The spa, which is shared with the neighbouring SENTIDO Pearl Beach, has an indoor pool, whirlpool and a Finnish sauna. It also offers fitness and massage programmes, as well as beauty therapies. The hotel has a varied programme of evening entertainment such as live music and DJs, folklore nights with Cretan and Greek dancing, magic shows and belly dancers. During the daytime you might like to try a cooking lesson, learn about herbal teas, or take a guided walk in the surrounding countryside. The town of Rethymnon has a centre that dates back to the Renaissance, with Venetian and Moorish architecture and narrow alleyways now filled with shops, cafés and bars. A highlight is the Venetian Fortezza, a walled fortress with a hidden chapel. Beneath its walls you can walk around the old harbour, perhaps stopping for some freshly-grilled fish at one of the many tavernas. At the end of the breakwater stands a 17th-century Turkish lighthouse, while a few steps away is the Venetian Loggia, once a meeting place for local nobility that was later turned into a mosque.

First things first, this is not a 5* hotel. Is it a good hotel? Most definitely. It is impeccably clean, the rooms are lovely and the breakfast choices varied, numerous and tasty. The fact that the 4* sister hotel is literally joined on makes for a confusing stay. We had family staying there and on viewing their rooms, I would say the extra we paid to be 5* is not worth it. The restaurants served the same food for breakfast, we used each other's pools (not meant to but nobody checked), and it is a shared bar. What seemed unfair is that we got free loungers on the beach but they had to pay. Why? They all belong to the hotel, they didn't have to pay to use loungers by the pool so why on the beach? Seems like penny pinching to me. On the subject of loungers, many reviews have commented on the "issue" and they are right to do so. Most of the guests here are German and believe it is acceptable to place loungers on beds at 8am and use them for 30mins at 3pm. The hotel DOES NOT move them . How do I know? Because I asked them to when the only free ones were in the shade, and was told by the concierge to sit somewhere else in a very offhand way. Would I stay again? Yes but probably in the 4* part and pocket the difference

Hello from Rethymnon, we thank you very much for your good valuation and having chosen our hotel as your holiday resort. We acknowledge all our guests opinions but also want to publish our site of view. The 5 *star rating system in Greece is a typical classification of the country and not to be compared to the standard from your home country. In common use for our sister hotels are the wellness center, snack bar, beach (free of Aegean Pearl clients) and the parking area. Reception, pools and restaurants are separate. We do make pool checks as often as possible and also take the towels away from the sun loungers at the pool, but NOT when there are plenty of empty ones…. Looking forward may be welcoming you again as a guest of our Pearl Beach hotel! Best regards Uli Moosmann

Hotel's Favorite
We enjoyed a beautyfull week in this Hotel. Very nice, large family rooms. Large range of fresh, good food for breakfast and dinner. Lovely drinks at the bar. We like to highlight the staff in the Hotel. They do a great job, they were always very friendly and very professionell (also with the COVID-19 measurements).

Just back from a week in this hotel. We had a lovely time. The hotel is well laid out. Pools and other facilities are excellent . The staff cannot do enough for you. Lovely smiley faces - under masks - at breakfast. Uli was really helpful and informative re what is on offer in the area. Having free sun beds on the beach is great. Aqua aerobics and Greek dancing instructor made us laugh - and exercise. Can’t comment on evening meals as we were bed and breakfast. We went to several nearby restaurants and all were excellent. If I had to fault the hotel the bathroom being in the bedroom takes a bit of getting used to and there was no good shampoo and conditioner provided - only a soap dispenser.

This is a lovely hotel spotlessly clean ,staff very friendly and very helpful, food very good Located on the sea front taxi ride to harbour is only 5,euros or 20,minutes walk . Rooms lovely cleaned Daily spotless. We are still here and can't fault this hotel poppy our waitress shes an absolute delight so pleasant . This hotel very covid friendly. Negative its minor but should be said sunbeds around pool area you can't reserve which is fantastic and when we first arrived towels were being removed..last few days 7.30 in morning towels are on sunbeds no people and hour later still not removed the hotel should stick to the policy otherwise this ruling is worth doing if you are not sitting on sunbeds then towelsshouldbe removed. We would definitely stay here again

Positives: * Lovely pools (decent size(s)and good quality sun beds) * Good and polite cleaning services * Close to the beach, with a taxi rank around the corner * A good selection of bars and shops nearby * Comfortable and clean beds Negatives * Food: the dishes were very basic and lacking in flavour. Service wise, no one greets you on your way in, and the wait for drinks at dinner is very long so much so that most of the time we were done with our food before our drinks came. * Rooms: poor standard, rundown bathrooms, stains on the carpets in the corridors. Two single beds instead of doubles ( not a 5 standard). * We booked a three person room and got a double, with two chairs put together as a third bed, leaving little to no space to move around. The open bathroom was not mentioned, therefore there was no privacy. * FAR FROM TOWN, for three adults in our twenties it was a 40 minute walk (minimum) to the city centre. * Despite the pools being lovely, there was always stuff at the bottom of the pools (rocks, sand, etc) Overall it was a good stay, but it’s definitely not a 5 star hotel standard.

Kalimera Sandra, We thank you for writing down your opinion on Tripadvisor and are happy to hear that you had a good stay in our SENTIDO Aegean Pearl hotel. Our staff is usually highly appreciated for the friendly and helpful service in all departments, especially in the restaurant. Due to our health program their smile is regrettably hidden behind a mask this year … All our rooms are equipped with twin beds. In case clients wish a big double bed, they can inform the reception and we put a topper on the mattresses. Best regards Uli Moosmann Holiday Concierge
