I have had to drop a star on this otherwise very nice hotel due to the noise we consistently experienced late at night from the bar/reception area and the location of our superior sea view room. There are a handful of rooms that are close to the public area and no door separating them to muffle the noise. Most nights the background music continued after 11pm and on a couple of occasions went on till 1am. In addition we heard staff talking loudly and also guests. I would suggest a sign is put up to remind guests to be respectful re noise after 11pm, staff also reminded about this and music to be switched off at 11pm. Would recommend you request a quiet room. Our room was smaller than expected and no proper privacy for showering as no door to the bathroom (there is a door for the toilet) and glass panels around the shower with a wooden screen you can move but it has gaps still. The room was also dark as sunlight obstructed by the front canopy of the hotel all day. Otherwise nice modern design to the hotel and breakfasts were excellent. A good small pool and about 18 loungers ( no bar service to this area while we were there) where we did get a space on the one day the beach loungers were fully occupied. Great bar service at the beach. We were unaware until we arrived that the beach is not free to guests. It is 5 euro each per day which then gets taken off the price of drinks if ordered. Drinks prices were 1-2 euro higher than elsewhere. Other point to note is that halfway through our break, the staff started wearing face masks which seemed abit odd. The staff were efficient but distant and we found only 2 or 3 who were abit more personable. If you have to leave early for an excursion you can request a packed breakfast which is good. To sum up we found this to be a good modern clean hotel with good service and we would stay again but would request a room further away from the reception/bar area.

We stayed for a week, half board in a superior room (upgraded from our initial booking) in August 2020. From the moment we were greeted with welcome drinks we knew we had chosen the right hotel for our trip. The hotel is luxurious, spotless and decorated really nicely. The rooms were small but well equipped with lovely cosmetics, face masks, hand sanitiser, bathrobes, coffee machine etc. A couple of key points:
1) Food was fantastic, from the large selection at breakfast and dinner to the food served at the beach and the bar. The quality was excellent across the board and the food at the beach was reasonably priced!
2) Very good drinks at good prices. Including a good variety of cocktails and ice cold beer.
3) Our favourite part of the hotel was the beach, it was very well kept and they always provide you with water on arrival. Special shout out to Mary who served us every day with a smile!
4) My wife had a massage and she loved the spa.
5) The pool area was really nice, extremely comfortable sunbeds.
The only negative was our 'breakfast basket' which we took when we were on a trip to Samaria Gorge. This was really disappointing and at the standard of a 2 star hotel. The sandwich provided was two slices of toast bread with a single slice of plastic cheese, which was much smaller than the bread without any butter or salad. We told the assistant manager about this but there was no effort to make amends, despite emailing a picture to them. I'd expect better from a 5 star hotel, however, this doesn't impact the overall rating and our stay.

A stunning property on the beach front. We were met on arrival and offered a welcome drink. Then we were taken to our room. The room was very modern and had all the little extra touches such as shaving equipment, robes, flip flops and upmarket show gels. The walk in shower was amazing. The breakfast was amazing, the best I’d had in a hotel and was different every morning. The pool area was very swish, the water warm, and the beds so comfortable. The rooftop has a comfortable lounge space too which we enjoyed our complimentary bottle of wine from the room with as we watched the sun go down with stunning views. The best bit was the beach. The hotel has its own reserved area with comfortable beds and service throughout the day which you can charge to your room so you don’t have to worry about having wallets and purses with you. WiFi reached the beach too. Everyone looked after you from start to finish. Superb.
Only minor points… I’d recommend going for a seafront or pool view. The room we had was always in the shade and looked out onto an unpleasant side street… we didn’t use the balcony at all because of this and chose to use the roof top space instead. Secondly the pool area only has enough space for eight couples so no where near enough occupancy for its guests, especially when the beach is closed. But very very minor points as it was truly brilliant.
Check out was great and we got a complimentary bottle of olive oil too. Lovely little touches. Thank you we will definitely come back again!

Excellent luxury hotel in Rethymno - we have just spent 4 nights here in a sea view room. Nothing is too much trouble for this team of staff who seem genuinely happy to work there and provide excellent service. Rooms are modern and spotless, the food at breakfast and dinner was exceptional - we didn’t intend to eat here every night but the food was so great we didn’t see a reason to go elsewhere. We are well travelled but this is the first hotel we’ve stayed in that has offered a Pillow Menu - choice of 4 levels of firmness to ensure a great sleep. Good gym, nice pool area, small touches like bottles of iced water brought to you by the pool, face mask and mouthwash left on the bed as a treat. We could to fault our stay here.

We were so excited to stay at Ikones and booked a superior pool view suite for 2 nights while in Rethymno for our friends wedding. When we arrived we were told they had upgraded our room the a sea view room in the “new section” of the hotel. This turned out to be the classic bate and switch. The “new section” of the hotel was not new at all, in fact it was the golden coast suites, which is a two star hotel next door that they now own. The difference in the rooms was apparent immediately. We asked the manager if we could just have the original room we booked instead of this so called “upgrade” when he informed us that they overbooked the hotel and there were no rooms left in the actual hotel we booked. The room that we booked was $255 per night and the room that they put is in could be booked online for less than $100 a night. Not only was the manager unapologetic about the situation, he consistently tried to convince us this was actually an upgrade. He didn’t offer us a refund for the difference of the room fair either. After discussing the situation for a while he told us he would “take care of us” to remedy the situation. He never once acknowledged us the rest of the time we where there and never did anything at all to remedy the situation.
Below are the list of issues we had with our 2 star room: 1. Low quality room. Furniture, linens, bathroom, etc reflected a 2 star hotel not a 5 star hotel. 2. Couldn’t go to the bathroom in the room as there was a sign above the toilet saying you can’t flush toilet paper down the toilet. 3. Bathroom flooded from water coming up through the drain in the bathroom floor just from turning the shower on. 4. There was no key card to get into the hotel so they left the door to get into the hotel open 24 hours a day with no one at the front desk to check who was coming in/out. 5. Because there was no one at reception and there was no phone is the room, anything we needed we had to go next door to the real hotel to request and wait for them to bring it over. 6. They would only give us one room key, which was needed to turn on the electricity, so we had to stay together the whole weekend as the other would not be able to get in the room otherwise or if one stayed on the room they would not have electricity.
To be fair the actual Ikones hotel looked very nice but not worth the risk of getting stuck in golden coast. There are other hotels in Rethymno that are just as nice.

I would like to begin with the prices which are completely false as the room you were accommodated costs more that 120 euros only stay without the meals that you have booked. Moreover it is not a 2* hotel as the status and the decoration of the room is far more luxurious than a 2* hotel. We have made a mistake and we apologised for it but we tried to do our best giving you a seaview room and not a pool view room which has a completely pricing policy than a seaview room. We just returned from an 8 day holiday to this luxury hotel. The receipt at the reception is excellent. The hotel is cleaned every day. A lot of cleaning people are continuously keeping everything in best state. The room was great, beds are very good, the new towels every day, the service of coffee and water every day is perfect. As well as the shower and the bathroom are great. The sound of the water flushing overflow is a little bit disturbing, but when you close the door of your room it is completely quit. Also no sounds from next door rooms. The restaurant at the top floor of the hotel overlooks the sea and Rethimnon. Great views! The food is good and variety is also good. The beach service is perfect. The beds are ready with towels and the moment you arrive two cooled bottles of water are supplied. Even the Wifi on the beach works. Lunch service is also not a problem. The swim-up rooms on the first floor are astonishing. The reception can book trips and taxi’s for you. Just ask. Because of the adult only form, it is always quit en peacefull. We will be back to this hotel.

So for starters we paid extra for the sea front room but we were put on the ground floor so we had a road view room, if I had known it was that close to the road I wouldn’t have paid the extra to be honest. The room was lovely very modern very clean but the cleaners woke us up every morning it sounded like they were dragging furniture round constantly so either we were positioned close to the cleaners cupboard or they walls are thin. We had gone with a few couples on a different booking and we found out towards the end of the holiday we had two single beds where as they a king size bed even though we paid the same amount for the room? When a different friend checked out they got offered a free bottle of olive oil but we checked out a day later and didn’t get offered one? I feel like you should keep everything consistent for all guests especially since they paid less than us for their room as they didn’t upgrade. The pool has enough room for about 5 people round it and is also a quiet zone so we had to spend every day at the beach which if I’m being honest if that was advertised I probably wouldn’t have stayed here. This didn’t spoil our time here and the restaurant staff Especially were so lovely and the food at the hotel was amazing just a few things I think they could improve.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Ikones. As other reviewers have said, the hotel and suites themselves exceeded our expectations, the decor was beautiful, light and airy and in keeping with it’s beachside location. The choices offered at breakfast were huge, everything you could possibly fancy, and different additions each day, all very fresh, delicious and constantly replenished. What sets Ikones apart is the exceptional service, courteous but friendly, very professional and nothing was too much trouble, everyone from the housekeeping team, to the waiters in the breakfast area all seemed very happy in their roles. In particular we loved the beach area, where we were waited on hand and foot by 2 fantastic team members, Giota and Maria, we were thoroughly spoilt, so a huge Efkharisto Poli to them! We would absolutely recommend Ikones, 5 stars well deserved.

Where do I start with Ikones… We stayed at the gorgeous suite on the first floor (private pool too!) and tried pretty much everything that the hotel had to offer. I’ve been living in London for the past 13 years and have a soft spot for beautiful hotels that pay attention to detail. At Ikones, everything was genuinely a high! The view from the suite just made me stay in for almost three full days!! The breakfast made me not want to have lunch because it was incredible! The restaurant downstairs made me talk about dinner the next day and the staff… well.. they made me smile every single time. The service was perfect at all times and every single member of staff made us feel like home. I’m normally the explorative type but at Ikones I just wanted to sit, relax and enjoy the beauty and I did just that! I have zero regrets and I’m going back next year for some more effortless beauty. Thank you guys! You were all bloody incredible!!!

You do not need to pay for the towels , those are free of charge, and as many you wish . You never need to stay with a wet towel . There is a minimum consumption charge per day on the beach , which I believe was 5€ day. If you do not order any drink or food the whole day, the 5€ is due.
