I'm don't usually return to the same place on holiday. But in 2020 things have been different. Infection rates of Covid-19 made planning a holiday difficult but Greece seemed to be coping well and I love Crete. So I booked a fortnight at the Mistral - my third visit in 10 or so years. An adventure wasn't called for and I was sure that the hotel would make every effort to ensure that all the positive aspects of what they offer in a "normal" year would be maintained to the usual high standard. And that's exactly what they did. Staff wore masks at all times, there was social distancing at dinner each evening with silver service rather than the usual shared dishes placed on the table. Instead of 8 guests fitting into a minibus on hotel-organised outings, only five. But the hospitality was as warm as ever, the kindness and professionalism of all the staff unchanged. There was just one thing that I was less than 100% happy about. With lower numbers there was plenty of choice of sun loungers around the two pools, which was fortunate from my point of view. The hotel has very well-kept gardens with attractive shrubs and plants, but the scent from the pretty pink alliums in some of the flower beds was definitely too overpowering for me. It may sound overly sensitive to complain about this, but when the hotel is full I can't see that it would always be possible for those affected to find a place that is far enough away from what was for me a strong smell of allium. Something to think about when it comes to next year's planting perhaps?

Just returned home on tuesday from 2 weeks holiday at the mistral hotel in Chania. From the day I arrived till the day I left I couldn't fault anything. Staff were at hand to help with all your needs. Creating a wonderful atmosphere. The rooms are very comfortable and very spacious. In the evening everyone ate together and due to Covid staff were at hand to serve as because of Covid adjustments had to be made at meal times. I can't thank everyone enough for the wonderful time I had there and looking forward to seeing them all again x Carol πŸ’–πŸ’–

The Mistral is a luxury hotel for singles. It is privately owned by a Greek family. The rooms are very comfortable and have character. The hotel is spotless throughout and the food is typically Greek and Cretan made with produce from their garden. The staff are very kind, friendly and can't do enough for you. There are two lovely swimming pools and a poolside bar where you can buy lunch. An excellent breakfast and dinner with wine are included in the price. The hotel run some excellent trips to places like Falasarna beach and fish restaurant and Loutro on the south coast which is reached by boat. Both had fabulous lunches included. Photos of these places are attached.

It was just wonderful to come back to the Mistral again and receive such a lovely welcome from Vasilis, Adonis and Anja. Lovely to see Andrea working at the bar again and meet up with some old friends and make new friends too. The service was excellent and all the staff were so friendly even though there were only about 14 guests staying at the hotel this time due to the Coronavirus. Tables were set out so guests sat 2 metres apart but this didn't diminish socialising and chatting during meals. Food was excellent as usual and there was always plenty of varied delicious Greek meals cooked on the premises for us. There were some great outings to choose from and my favourite was a boat trip to Loutro a delightful small seaside resort. And another favourite to Falasarna beach for a fantastic fish lunch that seemed to go on for ever! Yes going back to the Mistral was just magical and highly recommended if you want a true flavour of Crete. I will certainly be going back again one day soon.
