The Mistral is a luxury hotel for singles. It is privately owned by a Greek family. The rooms are very comfortable and have character. The hotel is spotless throughout and the food is typically Greek and Cretan made with produce from their garden. The staff are very kind, friendly and can't do enough for you. There are two lovely swimming pools and a poolside bar where you can buy lunch. An excellent breakfast and dinner with wine are included in the price. The hotel run some excellent trips to places like Falasarna beach and fish restaurant and Loutro on
the south coast which is reached by boat.
Both had fabulous lunches included.
Photos of these places are attached.

I am not single but I am a solo traveller. This was perfect for me being a solo independent traveller as it meant I could enjoy the company of other people during the breakfast and evening meal times and choose also whether I wanted to go on an excursion, meet up with new found friends or spend some time on my own. We took the bus to the nearby village where there were better beaches and to explore the shopping areas. It was very simple as the stop is just closeby. Although the location of the hotel is on a main road I didn't really notice the road noise and there was a short walk to the beach where there are plenty of places to eat for lunch. I met some lovely people and had some wonderful conversations. The age group is predominantly 55+ but there were some younger. I had a wonderful massage whilst there and the food at evening dinner was varied and very tasty. The free wine wasn't good so I ended up buying a bottle off the bar drinks menu. it was only 24 Euros and was pretty decent, and that would last me 2 nights. I actually felt all of the services provided by the hotel were reasonably priced from the excursions to the spa, food, and drinks that you can buy at the bar. I had a deluxe room which was a good size and the air conditioning was very efficient. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms cleaned every day to a high standard. A nice touch was having tea, coffee and herbal teas in the room with a kettle. They also supply you with a water bottle when you arrive so you can fill it up with cold filtered water whenever you want. There are 2 pools, the back pool was nice and quiet, the front pool was more sociable and there were plenty of sunbeds at both, but not so much that you felt crowded in. I felt so sad to leave and will definitely be returning to make some new friends again.

This is a fabulous place to stay for the single traveller. The room is functional and has lots of little extras such as shampoo, shower gel, tea and coffee. The bed is double and very comfortable. Amenities are great - 2 pools, comfortable sun loungers, small bar run by friendly staff, spa, and they offer a great choice of trips to choose from. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough to make your stay fantastic. The food is amazing. It's really nice to eat all together in the evening as it gives you a chance to make conversation with other people. This is a lovely family-run hotel and is a safe haven for the single traveller. I'm definitely going again!

I was so happy to have chosen The Mistral for my first holiday on my own. I asked for a quiet room and it was at the back but still with a view of the sea! The room came with quality Olivia shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion which is replaced if needed.

Everyone sits down to dinner together in the evening to enjoy home cooked Cretan cuisine. The hotel has it's own vegetable gardens and the food is so fresh and delicious. - Also very healthy!

Thanks to Anja, Adonis and all the staff for a wonderful time. I will definitely come back.

This must have been my 6th or 7th visit. The first time I came I rebooked and came back a week later.

What makes me return? in no particular order, the outstanding freshly cooked village style Cretan food where the fruits and veggies are sourced from the hotel kitchen garden and turned into wonders by Kiki and her team.

The rooms are supremely comfortable and kept spotless by a wonderful housekeeping team as are the outside areas where you’ll find two pools - one each freshwater and one lightly chlorinated - with plenty of blissfully comfortable sun loungers plus parasols for shade if required. The pool bar is terrific for a wide range of drinks and lunches plus pre and post dinner drinks and cocktails. The beach is a 2 minute walk and, buses to Chania, Platanias and other destinations are within a 1 minute walk as is the nearest ATM. Go on a Tuesday and you will enjoy free airport transfers (currently between 08:00 - 22:00).

There are excursions organised by the Mistral team too to some fabulous places along with some very good natured gentle Friday aqua aerobics.
If you need help organising travel or have queries, Anja will be a great source of help to you.

But what really makes me return? The people. The extraordinarily good kind company whom I’ve been privileged to meet both travelling there plus the entire Mistral team led Adonis.

Why should you come here? Because it’s simply magical.

Have just returned from 2 weeks at the Mistral, and it was slightly different from previous years, because of COVID-19. I normally visit for 2or 3 weeks in June, but obviously this year that was not possible, but September is a lovely time of the year in Crete, and so I decided 2 weeks quarantine on my return to the UK, was worth it. Vassilis, Adonis, Anja, and Andreas went out of their way to make the hotel a safe and secure place to be, and still have an enjoyable time there. There were a few changes, and at supper times there was no buffet, instead it was silver service, with everyone having their own carafe of wine, and breakfasts were served by 2 lovely very
helpful girls. Masks were worn when in the minibuses and at no time did I feel uncomfortable or at risk. Another brilliant holiday.
Have booked for next June with fingers crossed.

This unique and friendly hotel is a home from home. As a solo traveler you will feel safe and make lots of new friends. The evening meal is served alfresco on one long table
The food is traditional healthy Greek cuisine with the vegetables picked fresh from the garden and believe me there’s plenty
In the day there are 2 lovely pools with comfy sun beds and the beach is a short walk away. The bus outside the hotel takes you to beautiful Chania great for shopping lunch and soaking up the atmosphere
The hotel run trips to beautiful locations if you want them, small groups in a mini bus another chance to get to know people
The rooms are all good and the beds comfortable (deluxe rooms are larger)
This was my third visit and certainly not my last
I would like to thank Andonis and all the staff for their genuine care and attention throughout my stay particularly Anja ( nothing was too much trouble)
The bar staff Panos,Manos and Magic Mike. The cocktails are amazing 🤪
And Panos who’s smiling face will greet you at the airport (providing its a Tuesday)
He’ll also be the dancer on the Greek night, the Aqua aerobic coach and drive the mini bus on your trips. Love you Panos xxx

This small hotel is ideal for the solo traveller who may be worried about being solo. I had a lovely room with double bed, ensuite, good lighting, wardrobe and fridge.
The food is fabulous and there is plenty of it, freshly made. The staff are so friendly and after a very short time all guests are on first name terms and enjoying the sun loungers by the pools or the bar.
Chania is a short bus ride away and there are places of interest close by too as are beautiful sandy beaches and restaurants.
I would have liked to have information in my room regarding places of interest and bus timetable too.

This was my first time going on a solo holiday so I was a bit nervous about what to expect and how I would find it. I was made welcome from the start, picked up at the airport even though it was late, immediatley given dinner which had been set aside for us after been shown my room, during dinner the other guests who had migrated to the bar wandered over to introduce themselves and say hi. Both pools were lovely and I swam everyday. I went on three of the trips run by the hotel and had a wonderful time. I got to dance every night by the bar and even got to learn some greek dancing one night with live Greek music which was great fun. Everything was so easy and relaxing and the food was fantastic, I can often be a bit fussy about food but every night it was delcious. I had such a great time that I have already booked again for next year.

This is my 4th visit to the Mistral after over a decade and, having seen recent reviews, I am not sure what I can add. This is the ideal place for first time solo travellers to spread their wings!! If you are not an all day sun worshipper, there are plenty of organised trips to entice you away from the pools (and bar).... otherwise you could consider one of the themed weeks, such as walking or yoga. Ideally you approach the holiday knowing that you will meet many interesting people (the clientele are no longer exclusively British), but everyone will respect your privacy if alone time is what you need. With full capacity of 35 single travellers, mainly in the 50 plus age bracket, it takes on the feel of a large house party. The actual location of the hotel is not idyllic, being on a main road next to a petrol station, but this never seems to bother anyone in the oasis called the Mistral, with their delightful staff. I would always recommend calling and making the booking directly with the hotel because each room is different and if, for example, you have some mobility problems or require a walk-in shower etc. Anja will advise you accordingly. Also all dietary requirements can be met. For how long and when you visit is up to personal preference. Most people seem to regret it if they only booked for 7 nights, but you can chose as long as you want in excess of 3 nights... 10 nights suited me fine this time. Happy holidays to everyone!

Hi Pat S, It is half board with a very generous buffet breakfast - you can order light lunches from the bar if required. Dinner is several different courses with red and white wine included and varied and different every evening apart from on Sundays. If you have any questions do contact Donna direct - she is very helpful and can give you all the info you need. Its a lovely family run hotel, ideal for the independent traveller.
