I am not bragging but we have stayed in some lovely places in over the years, we are both in our late 50s and booked this holiday after our Tunisian one was cancelled. Decided to go to a small hotel in a village location for Covid safety and have to say we could not have chosen better. A 61 rooms family run hotel and self catering apartment complex with first rate traditional restaurant (separate review) and pool bar/snack bar catering for mainly British guests but with a smattering of international and greek guests also. This holiday was so good we came back yesterday and have booked to return in three weeks. Free wifi, air con and a fabulous feeling of cleanliness and welcome are just some of the highlights. Prices are reasonable and the home cooked food in the on site restaurant from the terrace is just fabulous. We stayed in the hotel where the showers were powerful, no dribbles here, balconies with seaviews had great sunrises and quiet. Housekeeping very good with good quality linens and towels. Breakfast again good quality ingredients and the cooked egg and bacon included in the price a great start to the day. A family run hotel making families feel safe and welcome just the way it should be nothing is too much trouble, everyone speaks great english and you can book food and drink to your room and pay at the end of your holiday for additional covid safety.

This was a Covid last gasp after the Canaries looked impossible. Booked a single week as I wasn’t very knowledgeable about West Crete - it looked quiet in a quite remote area of Maleme; a few tavernas, maybe a couple of bars along the beach road.
I booked the sea view studio/apartment, modern feel, great balcony view, clean, kitchenette and bathroom also had a modern feel. And so many switches! It took me days to remember which worked what light or lights...
Room is opened by card and you have the usual inside slot for power and aircon.
Grounds are tidy, more than enough loungers - tip: ones around the pool get more sea breeze! The pools: 2 circular for kids and us; under the bride it goes to 3m.
Pool bar is so friendly and easy to get on with others, it’s so well stocked for beers and cocktails that I was drawn back every night. The staff make it.
I could go in but you need to make your own discoveries.
This may be advertised as 2+ stars but those who visit give it 5.
It’s a gem!

We now know why the guests keep coming back to this hotel and apartments. It is very clean, great location (right by the beach, even though there is a nice pool area ), Manos, Sophie, the bar and cleaning staff work very hard to please all their guests, and are always pleasant, always had a smile on their face and nothing was too much trouble. We asked for an iron and ironing board before we arrived for the duration of our stay. There it was in the wardrobe already.(brilliant!)
The room was spotless, and cleaned daily, towels and linen were changed 2 to 3 times a week. The body showerspray in the bathroom was really good, it was quite invigorating and we had no complaints about the temperature of the water.
The menu for meals in the pool bar area had a good selection, salads were really tasty, crisp and really generous portions (one was enough for two people ). Pizza's, well, they were large as well and again very tasty. Loved the Mike's special one's !
All drinks reasonably priced, beers, wine, cocktails, yamas! every now and again there's a shot of ouzo comes your way.
Up in the restaurant at the hotel, Sophie was a great hostess. Breakfast was good, you had a choice of either continental or bacon, eggs, toast etc. The evening meals again were very tasty, reasonably priced and generous in their portions (waistline gone!). And then out comes a little dessert with fresh portioned water melon, along with, a small decanter/bottle of rakki as a thankyou. Yamas!
The wife and I will definitely be coming back next year if we can get in.
Once again I would like to say efharisto poli to Manos, Sophie and all the staff at the hotel and apartments for such a really pleasant and chilled stay. See you next Year.

Returned yesterday from a fantastic 2 week holiday staying at Mikes Apartments (from 301)
Our room was stated as partial sea view but both balconies had wonderful full views of the sea and I shall certainly miss my morning cuppa listening to the waves and enjoying the view.
Manos and his team do a great job and the customer service is 5 out of 5 and always with a smile.
The newly decked area near the beach was a great place for evening drinks.
The pool area is always spotless and beds were laid out to allow for COVID requirements.
We had breakfast every day at the restaurant and again that was great.
This is by far the best value holiday we have had and as we had been last year for a week we knew we were in safe hands.

We had a great holiday Maleme staying at Mike Hotel. My partner and I stayed in the superior apartments and three other members of our party stayed in the standard apartments - the superior are far more modern and in particular have better bathroom facilities, however both apartments were large, clean and tidy, with free aircon in both.

The pool and surrounding area is really nice, kept very clean and tidy - we saw member of staff clean around each sunbed area after people left. There seemed to be plenty of sunbeds for everyone, however this is hard to judge seeing as the hotel was quieter than usual due to Covid. Be aware that the area around the pool with sunbeds on is grass rather than tiles, stone etc.- not an issue at all, but I know some people might find it odd. It's actually less hot to walk across than tiles, less slippy and better for the environment, so no complaints here!

We had breakfast included which was a good continental selection: cereal, bread, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, teas, coffees, juice etc. Plenty of room to sit down and enjoy breakfast either inside or on the balcony, which could get very hot! Plenty of food, no queues or anything like that.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and adhered to Covid guidelines completely. Everyone was wearing facemasks, and areas were being disinfected as soon as people left. I'm not sure what else they could have done really, we felt very safe which was helped by the fact that the area was quieter than usual.

Prices for drinks and food were reasonable. We ate dinner once at the hotel restaurant, food was nice enough but there are lots of excellent restaurants near by try.

Overall we had a great stay and would definitely come back.

Manos, Sophia and the whole team at are just fabulous, they never stop working to make your holiday the best it can be. We were newbies and had booked less than a couple of weeks before, people come here year after year, several times a year too. We were greeted by Manos and promptly checked in, directed to our standard apartment which was spacious, spotless and very well equipped. The grounds and garden areas are lovely, the pool area is beautiful, so well kept and all grassed, so no slippy tiles.

Rooms are cleaned thoroughly every day except Sundays, towels and linen changed very regularly. The bathroom was modern, the shower cubicle amazing, toiletries are provided. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and lots of hangers. Air con is included which is great, the only extra charges are the safe and room tax.

Pool bar is the hub of the apartments with snacks from morning till night, nothing here is expensive. The price of drinks costs no more than in the small resort and every evening most people return for drinks, its so easy to just chat and make new friends. There are just 2 people in the bar at night and Manos makes sure everyone is served promptly and with great efficiency.

We had evening meal in the restaurant up in Mikes Hotel about 5 times during our stay, here, Sophia is in charge here and she manages it with marvellous efficiency. Again only 2 people serving, we never had long to wait, for a table if they were busy. We never had a long wait between courses. Bread and the olive tapenade is free, water was free and to end the meal huge amounts of melon and watermelon, ice cream and a decent shot or 2 of raki. We couldn’t believe the prices of the meals. Each night there is a different special of the day, my favourite was kleftico, which during our two weeks stay here we had twice. I must say the view from the terrace of the restaurant is stunning.

Everyone is friendly, everyone is happy. You far, far exceeded my expectations. I cannot wait to return.

You definitely deserve the top rating and to be number 1.

This was the fourth time of trying to book to stay here again through Tui, so glad we persevered. You feel at home from the moment you arrive even if it is your first visit and the rooms are all spotless. The hotel and apartments cover a spacious area down hill towards the sea. There is a short walk to the pool from the hotel. All of the food we had including the fresh made snacks by the pool were great and the daily special evening meal at the hotel, always fresh using local Mike grown veggies. The view from the terrace is wonderful and there always seems to be a breeze up there. We met loads of people who were return guests and I can understand why, we even met someone who was enjoying a 7 week stay here. Evenings by the bar enjoying a cocktail or two and fab music was enough entertainment for us. Looking forward to returning.

Our second time here at Mike’s Hotel and Apartments but our 1st time staying B&B in the hotel. Sophia came to greet us on arrival and offered us a glass of wine. Our room was 1st floor with a sea view, she then insisted on carrying our bags up as there is no lift in the hotel. The Hotel has just 14 rooms so you will soon become aquainted with the whole hotel! Our room was just right for us with a very comfortable bed and excellent shower with toiletries. Air conditioning worked well. Balcony's are private, quite small but adequate for table chairs and clothing dryer hanger. As I've said in a previous review the whole team at are just fabulous, they never stop working to make your holiday the best it can be and this is why the same people come here year after year.
Breakfast is the same every day, a nice little selection of fruit, cereals, cooked meats, salads, honey, jams etc, bread and pastries cooked breakfasts are prepared to order, basically eggs, bacon (not English bacon) beans. This breakfast is also offered to apartment guests to purchase. This year packs of bottled water were available to buy so that was a bonus, not having to carry them from the supermarket. 2.50 euros for 6x1.5ltr. Rooms are cleaned thoroughly every day except Sundays, towels and linen changed very regularly.
We had evening meal in our restaurant at Mikes Hotel 8 times during our stay, usually having the daily special, Sophia greets everyone and takes everyone's order, she manages it efficiently with 2 members of staff. Just as last year bread and the olive tapenade is free, water was free and to end the meal huge amounts of watermelon, grapes and sometimes ice cream and a decent shot or 2 of raki. The prices of the meals are very reasonable. The view from the restaurant terrace is stunning.
After dinner the Pool bar is the hub for guests to return for drinks and just chat and make new friends.
This is such a friendly family run property.
Again, I cannot wait to return. You’re still number 1 and deserve to be!

This is our first time to Crete, we changed our holiday to this one last minute, we are glad we did. Mike’s is perfect , very clean, the food at the pool bar is amazing and everyone is really friendly.
Rooms and cleaned daily, you can smell the cleaning products as you enter the room and they are cleaned to a high standard.
Towels are changed every other day and you can also get pool towels for a few euros if you need them.

The pool and pool area and kept exceptionally clean all the times as are the grounds.

Everyone who works at Mikes is so helpful and friendly, and everyone is chilled and enjoying the sun with no drama.

It is quiet, there are a few shops and restaurants but if you are wanting more of a livelier place Chania is a bus ride away and it’s a really straightforward journey, with other little
Towns to stop at on the way if you want more restaurants and bars and shops. It’s cost a couple of euros to get there and the bus stop is right outside the hotel part of Mikes (there is a main hotel and then the apartments).

We can’t fault this holiday at all and we are hoping to come back next year.

My wife and I had originally booked a 21 night holiday at the Lotus hotel apartments in Kato Doritso on Crete due to depart in June.
However, due to Covid 19 this was put back until 01/09/20.
At the last minute TUI informed us that the accommdation had closed and we had been transferred to the Mike hotel apartments in Malame.
Although we were a little apprehensive before we left home there was no reason to have been so as we had a fantastic holiday.
The apartments were clean and functional. Towels were changed every couple of days and bedding twice a week.
The managers Manos and Sophie,Alman, Anna,Tina and especially Maria were professional, efficent and friendly.
The drinks and meals around the pool were reasonably priced.
We ate at several restaurants during our holiday. Our favourites were the Black Lantern, Mythos and Waves. We also ate several times in the hotel and on one occasion ate in the Chinese restaurant in nearby Platanias.
It was easy to travel around on the local buses. We went to Platanias and Agia Marina on a couple of occasions, Georgiopolis, Paleochora and Kolymbari. We also endured the Samaria gorge by way of an organized trip.
The only downside was that a number of restaurants and shops were closing down during the last week of the holiday. The hotel was also closing down the day after we left.
TUI also informed us just before we were due to come home that our flight had been cancelled and we would be flying home with Easyjet but we would be flying from Heraklion instead of Chania. This turned out to be a three and half hours coach transfer - a nightmare.
We are still awaiting compulsory compensation under EU Regulations as TUI are playing silly buggers.
Nevermind, at least we enjoyed the holiday.

Regarding the boat trip, There are little excursion stands dotted around the resort advertising excursions. Or you could just ask Sophia in Mikes Hotel, she knows everything and will advise you the best way to visit. Trust her, she's amazing :-)
