The hotel gets 4 because of the staff, they were sweet and helpfull. I had a nice time at the hotel, but I was not impressed with the food, it was not like it was awfull, but it lack inspiration, but dessert was great and the drink quality not good, the wine was thin and lack of taste and the beer was flat. The room was nice, and there was nothing wrong with that.
Good location. Food very good. Drinks could be better. Spacious room. Great balcony with seaview. Not so far from the city of Chania. Near the supermarket. Chania as well as Platanias where easy to be reached by buss.
My wife and me stayed for 10 nights at this hotel. We had a pleasant stay, and the staff was very serviceminded, from the cleaning personell, the boys in the poolbar, the personell in the restaurant and till Christina in the reception. Close to the beach, with all facilities, free sunbeds and all there is. We will come back, for sure. Lillian and Lars.
Despite being a hotel fra from the city center, this is a very good family hotel. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. We rented a car and a motorcycle via the reception at a reasonable price.
Do not go here!!!! Very unprofessional management, he is awful just shouts and barks like a pitbull at customers and staff, liver on the menu and brussells? yes it was true, and chicken every day, thank the lord there was fruit.. we asked for a sea view but didn't get it and booked in march to travel in September, so they had plenty of notice.. the worst holiday ever.. nothing to do in the evenings but walk along the sea front .. that was it.... stay clear..
The hotel is situated in a calm small town Maleme but close to more "lively" city Platanias or the nicest Crete city Chania. The room was smaller then we expected, but still big enough for two people (bathroom, bedroom with a table and a wardrobe, and terrace). And being on a room is problaby not the activity you want to spend your holiday with, so it was perfectly fine. :-) The beach is just across a road, but we actually spent all time at the pool, that was really great - big enough so we were able to swim there any time we wanted. The food was just delicious and with so many options! It really suprised me in a really good way! Also there was absolutely no problem with getting the drinks as often as we wanted. We were worried about it, but then we saw there was just no reason!
I have just returned from a week’s holiday at this hotel. First of all the location: great for families or couples seeking a relaxing time. The beach is just across a quiet road, you can have a set of sun loungers and parasol for 5 euros a day and order drinks from the hotel staff. It is a pebble beach but we found that the sea was always warmer as a result, there are some sandy beaches about 4 km away. The town of Chania is about 30 mins bus ride but would recommend hiring a car and visiting the beautiful town of Rethymnon, and a definite must is the beach at Elafonissi, it really is stunning. The hotel: We were very pleased with our rooms, clean & modern with air conditioning, fridge, TV, balcony, nice bathroom & shower (the rooms were cleaned every day). The pool was a good size, the water clean & warm. The restaurant, overlooking the sea, is bright and airy. The food: Buffet style, as you would expect in Greece, lots of tomatoes, cucumber, salad, Greek cheeses, melon etc.. Every evening there was something different and we all ate well. I would like to add that the owners and staff at the hotel were wonderful!!! Very friendly and helpful, they made sure we had a good holiday and we will definitely go back. In fact everyone we met in Crete was friendly, happy and relaxed….GO!…
Well, I will start with the food! Food was amazing! You could eat as much as you wanted and they were giving you a lot of options - even vegetarians wouldn't have any problem. You can taste a lot of traditional greek foods (like papoutsakia or pastitsio). The cakes were great as well! And the price is really great for all the services they offer. The room was very clean and the view of the swimming pool from our room was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was deep (2,5 m) which was good if you wanted to swim around! I would visit this hotel for sure again.
Very good small hotel. Maybe deserves more than 3 stars. I was on vacations with my children and we stayed in a huge-double room with kitchen and 2 seperate bedrooms. It was extremely clean and after our arrival we found some local treatments on the table for us. The views were breathtaking from both large balconies, to the Aegean sea. The hotel itself is small but with a large pool. The stuff very very friendly. The only backdrop is the beach in front of the hotel: basic for Crete standards. The surrounding place is quiet and with a lot of family tavernas. Chania are 15' driving but public transportation is poor. The food is ok, but for the price wow! Anyway if you are in Crete it is better to eat in village tavernas and taste the real mediteranean flavors. No wifi there, but it was free to use some internet pc's at the lobby. Pool bar is great! In a summary, for 90 euros we got a double appartment, room service (!), breakfast and dinner included for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Value for money!…
We stayed in Castro Hotel in Maleme for two weeks in August 2010. We were a bit worried because of some reviews found on the web (not very good to be honest). We were very surprised! - the Hotel was not very big, and not too busy, which was great - the building itself was very nice, cosy, clean - the beach is just 20 meters form the hotel - both beach & sea are very clean (no rubbish, food, cans etc.) - service is very good, the staff is always helpful, smiling, sharing few words - everybody (accept for our cleaner:) knew English good enough to communicate - there was plenty of food, with few desserts every evening, - food was very tasty, many different dishes in buffet, NOBODY is checking what, how much and why you eat :) - in AI you get all the standard drinks (beer, red/white wine, raki, ouzo, soft drinks) - they are not adding any water (we red about that somewhere on the web - it's not true) - rooms cleaned properly every day (no cleaning on Sundays), towels and bedding changed whenever you wish, - the pool was clean (cleaned every day), - Maleme is a very nice quiet place, you can find plenty of shops, bars and tavernas. It is a place for nice quiet holiday - not for party types. We are 100% satisfied with the Castro Hotel, we would recommend it to everybody who wants to relax and enjoy nice holiday on Crete…
