The pool was cold, but the sea was perfect. I really enjoy the water atractions. I also like the children's area- they can swim in warm pool with fun slides or they can play ball games. The animation program from the company Life Tourism Entertainment was nicely prepared. There were Giorgia, Mateo, Daniel and Julia and they were amazing and so sweet! It was good to play some of the games (darts, beach volleyball, stretching, yoga...) and every night we went on the night program (bingo, white night, karaoke...). There was a lot of fun. And finally, I have to mention the food. I liked it every time. Sometimes I had problem to choose what I want because everything was delicious.
A beautiful, newly renovated beach hotel a short distance from Lerapetra's charming waterfront. The staff are top notch, the rooms spacious and the facilities generally equivalent to a 4-star hotel (Hence the four "stars" in this review). On the UP-side: Architecturally a very beautiful hotel, where the recent renovation must be said to be extremely successful (see the photos). Excellent pool area with infinity pool overlooking the Eastern Mediterranean. The children's pool (it is a family hotel after all!) is large and equipped with what is required of children's water entertainment and very popular and well separated from the "adult area". But the top of the pop is and will be the beach. Lots of beach chairs available - and the hotel has zero tolerance for the frequently seen and annoying towel reservation that some guests practice from sunrise. The beach is fine-grained, the water crystal clear - everything about this part is actually five-star. Add to that the excellent and well-stocked bar, where you can enjoy the most beautiful sunset over Lerapetra's harbor from the terraces. On the down side: The hotel offers "all inclusive" of the absolute best kind (one should think this belonged in the "UP"-section, but ...), but it will never represent the original, authentic Greek cuisine - instead, it is a series of varieties of the same ingredients, buffet queues, overflowing plates and massive food waste. The restaurant is - even half full - very noisy. The daily cleaning - no matter how nice, helpful and smiling the staff were - left a lot to be desired. But all this does not change the fact that visiting Petra Mare is an overall 4-star experience. But a good piece of advice: When you visit Petra Mare - in particular if you do it with All Inclusive - then don't cheat yourself: go visit all the excellent restaurants along the waterfront approx. 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The restaurants and thus the local community suffer from the All Inclusive concept, and you miss out on the real Greece. Do yourself - and the locals - the favor of eating out. It is not expensive (far from as expensive as All Inclusive) and far better. And you get to meet the real Greece - and the real Greeks. And trust me: visiting Greece would be the same, if all the local restaurants were closed and the lights were out - killed of by the All Inclusive-concept. …
Amazing stay at this hotel!! We stayed from the 27th of September until October the 6th. Great food clean rooms and fantastic people!! We will definitely be back. All inclusive the beach right in front and an awesome pool area.
Far from the 'airport , although an all inclusive the restaurant is good , the pool is a little dirty but it's ok , the great part of this place is the animation that made this vacation unique for us. We will definitely come back , we would have liked to go on the jet ski but it was really too expensive
I stayed here with my boyfriend nice and clean rooms , the hotel and quite far from the 'airport is mostly for children but thanks to the animation team it was a thousand times better. Special thanks goes to daniel who was always available to help us. Congratulations again to the animation life!!!!😘
Would like to start with the fact that I didn’t stay at the hotel so I can’t speak for the rest, but my boyfriend and I booked a couples massage package at the hotel. The spa itself was nice, the sauna and pool were high quality and clean. But the massage itself that I had was one of the most uncomfortable 60mins I ever spent. The therapist clearly didn’t have any experience or interest in massage therapy. She yawned loudly and continuously right from the first couple of mins up to the end and rushed the whole treatment to the point where she had way too much time to spare at the end which then resulted in her poking me in the neck at unpredictable intervals for an uncomfortably long time. I would have walked out if it wasn’t for my boyfriend having a perfectly fine and relaxing massage with the male therapist next to me. We paid 170eur for this package (which we had to pay upfront) and when I addressed the issues to the spa reception they apologised but didn’t make any effort to remedy the situation. It felt like once they have your money they no longer care. …
I booked this hotel and flight independantly after getting frustrated with the reviews for tour operator hotels. The hotel is quite far from Heraklion airport so we booked a taxi via the hotel which cost 120Euros each way. The journey time was about 1hr and 20 mins but I think it was worth it as other people said that tour operator shuttle buses took a lot longer. We arrived late evening and checked in and went straight into the restaurant. The choice of food was very good on par with cruise ship buffet meals. We only had breakfast once during our stay as we went to the gym first thing and then ate at the outside taverna by the pool. The choice there in the taverna was not vast but it suited us. Evening meals were very good with plenty of choice even for dessert. There was quite a wide range of food offered and even the fussiest of eaters would be able to find something here. Beer and wines were on tap to help yourself to, one type of beer and red, white and rose wine which were of good quality, you could buy better wines but you dont need to. We stayed for 2 weeks and not many dishes were repeated which was good. The gym was good , you have to book a slot at reception. Pool/beach towels are supplied and can be exchanged every 3 days at the spa downstairs. We did not use the spa so I cant comment on this. The hotel is right on the beach where there are parasols and sun loungers supplied for free. The sea was wonderful. There are plenty of parasols and loungers both on the beach and by the pool. I didnt realise when I booked that the hotel was popular with families and because school holidays were finished most of the children there were pre school age. This didnt bother us as I think without the children it would have been too quiet! There are adult only areas both in the restaurant and in the lobby area. The animation team work very hard and I did try a couple of stretching classes. They ask if you want to join in but dont pester you. You also see them around the hotel during the evening which I have never seen at other hotels. The one thing we liked about this hotel was the food definitely and location but also the fact that there are not many British people that go there. We only saw 1 family the first week and we heard that there were another couple there the 2nd week! I dont think any British tour operator goes there. My tip would be to book a sea view room as the view is lovely but if I went again I would just book a mountain view. The rooms are not luxurious but have everything you need. The hotel is very clean and the staff never stop and are very attentive. If you want good food then give it a try but just be aware that there are likely to be small children around!…
It was an interesting stay for me and my friends. A special big thanks belongs to the entire animation team, specially to Fabrizzio! He is really profesional about his work, always was a lot of fun, when he was around us. He made our stay truly unforgetable! And I really loved the shows. <3
Unfortunately very noisy. They play loud house music morning-dinner-evening in the restaurant. It is like going to a night club when you just try having a cup of coffee. And smoking is allowed even if there are small children present. Positive things: The staff is busy, but friendly. The food is good and there is a very large selection. The Ocean views are beautiful.
My wife and I, together with our two teenage daughters stayed here for only four nights at the beginning of August. We arrived here from another hotel which was poor and we decided to move to another hotel. We saw the Petra Mare on a hotel booking website and it looked fantastic. We were not disappointed. From the minute we turned the corner after being dropped off at the main entrance, we were hooked. When you turn right once you enter the hotel, you didn’t even notice the reception desk as the sea view behind it grabbed your immediate attention. The whole reception area was clean, spacious and plenty of places to sit down and chill out. We had a suite with a sea view which was amazing. It was modern, clean and perfect for a family of four. The balcony was huge and the view was stunning. The hotel was right on the beach which was a mixture of sand and fine pebbles as your enter the sea. The sea was like a lake and very still and safe for little ones. You will need to be careful of some large, flat rocks in places but these were smooth and very obvious. The beach has plenty of loungers with umbrellas and has a beach bar serving drinks. The pool area was very well set up with a large, main pool which was rarely busy and a smaller pool for the younger children. The hotel animation team were very good and encouraged you to join in without ever being pushy. The sun loungers and parasols were plentiful and you couldn’t reserve them so you were always able to get a lounger even at 11am which was great. The restaurant was facing the sea and the food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. There were plenty of options, whether you wanted meat, fish or vegetarian. After a poor start to our holiday, the Petra Mare certainly made up for it and we were finally able to relax.…
