Had a one night stay including day use in the "nicest" suite they had available. The receptionist on the night we went to have a look and book the room was extremely polite and attentive. During our stay all the staff were nice, and I must say, the room service was great! Really quick and polite young man. So why the bad rating? During the middle of a pandemic we found a piece of popcorn on our bathroom floor. Not dust, a whole piece of food. If something as simple as the sweeping and mopping can't be done correctly, it makes you wonder what else hasn't been properly cleaned. And that is exactly what I said to the receptionist (not the same as the first one) when we were checking out and his reply was "are you sure YOU didn't eat any popcorn?" Seriously?? Anyway, the balcony also wasn't very clean and the TV was so annoying to use, we couldn't even get it to play music without connecting it to our mobile data as it kept glitching when connected to the Wi-Fi. Seems like they would invest in anything more than the cheapest TV available in the superior suite.

...then, everything else wasn`t bad either! Stayed for just 2 nights before leaving for Chania, arrived late - friendly and very efficient check in just gave us time for a drink in the bar before the curfew time, then up to the room. Has everything you want, clean and comfortable, everything worked. Down to breakfast the next morning (unusual for us!) and very well organised and distanced, hot food served to you, cold foods ( cheeses, salads, fruit, breads) individually packaged for hygiene purposes, everything fresh and tasty. Central and walking distance to pretty much everything we really wanted to do in the one day we were there - all staff friendly in restaurant, bar and reception, no experience of housekeeping but if this was anything to go by, I doubt I`d complain. Why not a 5 star review? Well, we weren`t there long enough!! Oh, and a bonus? A 30% off ticket for everything food and drink, made the Metaxa all the nicer!!

We came as walk in guests and stayed from the 3. to the 4. of October at Astoria in Heraklion. The receptionist and staff were friendly and reacted quickly to our inquiries. After the check in we called the reception and requested to kindly have the linen and towels exchanged because they didn’t seem to be really fresh and clean. Everything was redone quickly but the linen and bath towels were not better. The linen were quite stiff as they seemed to have not been washed properly nor with softener and the towels smelled moldy. I am a bit sensible to linen/ towels and their quality, so I would recommend them to have a quality check and to ensure to have them cleaned properly.

Dear Marlies_Egger, Thank you sincerely for staying with us, we were very happy to welcome you. We do remember the issue you refer to in your comment and please accept one more time our apologies. In fact, thanks to you we have been through our linen collection and we have arranged to receive the new items as indeed some of them where not up to our standrds. Please note though that we avoid to use fabric softeners which are harmful for the user and the environment. We truly hope yopu will honor us with your visit in a future occasion, to offer you the comform you merit! Warm regards

We checked in, saw the room and checked out. We had a 5 night stay booked and were genuinely surprised at the state of the room. The flooring was damaged, the furniture was damaged, the balcony was dirty, the twin beds were hard as rocks (we should have had a double), the towels were hard. It was up market hostel level, tired 3 star at best. They offered to upgrade us but the cigarette smoke wafting down the corridor en route was the nail in the coffin. The hotel needs to invest to bring it up to the advertised rates. We had just stayed in two other four stars on the island so were really surprised. We paid a 79 euro cancellation fee and moved around the corner of the Megaron. I mention this because both these hotels had comparable rates when I booked in August but in standard they are miles apart!

We arrived early and had to wait a couple of hours and then were allowed to check in still 2 hours early after a temperature check had been carried out. The time in between we spent on the rooftop where tables and lounge chairs were available with sun shades. It's a pleasant place even in the hot midday sun. We didn't dare to use the pool due to Corona precautions. Our room was the Superior room, alright size wise but looking drab, used and weathered. The floor was really bad because some panels were raised and became a tripping risk. The small bathroom had a toilette squeezed into a niche which made it hard to use even for a slim person. We missed a box with Kleenex and real glasses instead of paper cups. The view from the 4th floor was stunning and we enjoyed our balcony in the evening. It was quite noisy in the square in front of the hotel (skate boarders) however, inside the room it was quiet all the time. For 2 nights we had neighbors who smoked on the balcony, an unpleasant experience for non smokers. We had to go inside and close the door. The manager was kind enough however, to offer us another room. Cleaning was reduced to every 3 days but towels were changed any time upon request. We asked that the bathroom be cleaned every day and the bins emptied daily too. In the breakfast room tables were spread apart and at a reduced buffet hot items were served by a staff member. It was ok though, because the hotel certainly tried to make sure the guests were safe. Apart from one employee at the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The best about this hotel is its location in the city center with all major attractions and numerous shops and restaurants within walking distance. It was also easy to get to and from the airport by bus for 1.20 Euro p.P.

We are very happy to receive such a positive review, but mostly we appreciate a lot your remarks, as they help us evolve and offer to our valuable guests a better stay experience. We truly thank you for that. Please note that most of the "negatives" yopu noted, are dued to the protocols that we striclty apply, to guarantee the well-beibng and the safety of our staff and guests. Other than that, we hope that you will be back to our property soon, once all this will be over, so that you enjoy a more comfort travel experience. Take care and stay safe!
