We have returned from a 5 day honeymoon at Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas. The moment you drive into here you know its is something special, the driveway is tree lined and stunning. You drive up to the hotel and are met by one of the concierge team and taken to the Reception, which is vast, cool and stunning. You are invited to sit and have a complimentary drink while they run through everything with you, in the meantime your cases are already on their way to your room - nice touch. We had an Island villa seaview with private pool (Rm 163), and it certainly was WOW when we were shown round. Electric curtains, huge lounge/bedroom area and a bathroom that was the same size as the lounge/bedroom with a jacuzzi bath looking out a huge window onto the decking/pool area. At the back of the bedroom was a huge walk in wardrobe with two different types of bathrobe his and hers. There are 5 different restaurants to choose from but as my husband has a very limited palate due to stomach problems we dined at only two, but they were wonderful. The first one was the Italian, Argonaut, overlooking the bay and towards to the Veghera Jetty Bar, which at night is lit up beautifully. The food here was absolutely beautiful and although they only do pizza's at lunch time they did do one for my husband for dinner. I had the Spaghetti with Prawns, lemon zest & zucchini, the Saffron Risotto with prawns and rucola pesto and the Dorade fillet with potato and rosemary crust that was delicious. The second one was the the Greek restaurant Kafenion set amongst the olive trees, again the food was stunning. The first time both my husband and I had the Souvlaki (kebabs) which were huge and unfortunately we couldnt finish but they were delicious. The second time we went i had the grilled shrimps (giant prawns), bloody gorgous. The only downside to eating there is that Kafenion have their music going whilst the Dionysos have live music going at the same time, and they are literally a path apart so it is a bit of battle on the ears. The little square there though with the chapel is absolutely gorgeous, eucalyptus and olive trees line the paths, with bougainvillea growing everywhere with the huge succulant plants and cactus. The whole place is like a little greek village with steps up to villas with their blue doors or white gates and plants in pots, truely beautiful. Breakfast there is a VAST amount to choose from, greek & continental, as well as english breakfast with Tiptree jams (coming from Essex this was great to see Tiptree jams ). Plenty of juice to choose from although no carrot juice which would have been nice ( i am sure though had i asked i probably would have got some ). We did have a small issue with ants on our decking the first couple of days, we were offered to move but we really loved our room so decided not to move. The management were very helpful and although the ant problem didnt exactly go away we were provided with cans of ant/bug spray. Although i must say that ant powder would have been a much more effective answer. One detail that was totally amazing was that before we arrived i have emailed the concierge to say it would be our one week wedding anniversary whilst we were there and i wanted it to be special for us. They certainly did that!! We booked dinner that night at the Italian, we were shown to a table by the waters edge and there was a beautiful presentation of flowers there, we were also given a bottle of prosecco and a gorgeous chocolate cake, which we had a slice of for dessert and the rest was taken back to our room for us. Very very impressed with that. Thank you All in all a truely wonderful place, the whole place is amazing including the beaches. Our cleaner was a wonderful lady and we gave her a big tip when we left, unfortunately i didnt get her name. Also Ioanna, who we regularly saw at the greek restaurant and at breakfast was lovely and helped us alot. And now i have the Cons: nothing about the resort itself but the room we had. Don't get me wrong generally i would give this room 9 out of 10, it was wonderful but there were just a couple of things that let it down, in the bathroom there is a plug for the hair dryer etc, it is too far away from the main mirror so you cant actually see what you're doing so a full length mirror next to the sinks would be brilliant. Also in the bathroom when you come out the shower there are no hooks nearby to hang your towels or dressing gowns so you just have to chuck them on the floor until you come out the cubicle, or alot of the time i would forget and the new towels were the other side of the room down some steps, not great when you are wet and its slippery. I would say the main thing was though was the decking outside, alot of it is broken and generally looks tired and for the amount you are paying for this room i would expect it to be perfect and look amazing and it doesn't . The sunloungers were great and very comfy but at the other end were two wooden sit up loungers, which again look very tired and were very uncomfortable and a table which i felt was completely unnecessary as there is a very comfy sofa and chair with a table to sit on and enjoy the sunrise/evening. Take the wooden stuff out please management. It spoils the look believe me. Apart from those couple of things we loved this resort and this room and we genuinely hope to return soon. …
