The Amphora Hotel is situated in the heart of the beautiful Venetian harbour of Chania old town, a gentle 10 minute stroll from the bus station, where the airport bus stops. Don't bother with a taxi, as the hotel/harbour area is a traffic-free zone. The hotel itself is a very quaint 14th century Venetian townhouse. There are 20 rooms, several of which have a balcony with views over the harbour, and probably worth paying extra for. The hotel reception is located upstairs, and there is no elevator! Our room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. It included a small kitchenette with some crockery, utensils, pans etc, a fridge, a filter coffee machine. There was no conventional kettle. There was also cold/warm air conditioning. The bathroom was very small but clean and functional. The shower, despite being miniscule, offered a plentiful supply of hot water. The staff at the hotel were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. There's a restaurant as part of the hotel where breakfast can be purchased for €10. There's also a 10% discount in the restaurant offered to hotel guests.

We have just returned from this beautiful boutique hotel. Typically like a Greek taverna. Reminded me of Mamma Mia! The rooms were very clean and kitted out to a high standard. The shower was very modern and excellent. I loved going out for the day and coming back to the smell of clean, fresh linen in the room. The host, Anita, was perfect, nothing was too much trouble and she was full of great information of places to go. We followed her advice and went to a restaurant she recommended and she turned up there herself! She also recommended a nice little cafe which was another little gem. The location was perfect just a 2 minute walk to all the bars. Our only disappointment was we went too early and the hotel restaurant wasn’t open yet! Will definitely be returning and hope to eat in the restaurant next time.

Simply sterling service by all the people at the reception who did their utmost to help us, make us feel at home and take good care of us especially Efi and Augustin who played so much with our son and guided us so much. Further more, the hotel was super clean always, and we had a room with an amazing view!! Within distance to all the places in the port, and have their own exquisite restaurant! Simply a special place to stay to which we will definitely return!!

We booked in this place for three nights, our room (room 10) with a little balcony overlooking the "hotel" restaurant roof that has visible air conditioning units and part of the water front where the hotel restaurnt is. Starting around 7 pm and continuing to the next morning, the room smelled like barbeque smoke house and smoked all night long, we almost suffocated and could not breath or sleep. We complained and asked that they change the room, we were asked to pay extra only to move to a smaller room 2 stories up also without elevator. the next morning we complained again, this time they asked us to pay 30 euros extra to move to a nextdoor two rooms away on the same level overlooking the same roof top where the air conditioning is. They advised that we dont open the windows if we want to stay in the same room which may help getting clean air to breath normally and sleep the night. The second day same problem again starting around the same time, we kept windows shot but with no help same barbeque smoke filling up the room not possible to sleep. A likely cause is that the air conditioning unit is sucking air from that roof with close proximity to the restaurant kitchen exaust unit. Ths place charges like other hotels around in ths area and even more. The water front restaurant obviously makes it very busy place for which hotel customers will suffer the poor air quality, the barbeque smoke exists even w/o opening windows. Basically the air conditioning system does not exist and somehow gets the air from the reataurant kitchen exaust system. This historic building needs to be inspected by the health department of the local city licencing division befor continuing to operate as a hotel.

We picked Hotel Amphora in Chania town after reading a good few reviews and descriptions in the ‘Rough Guide’ book. There are many good looking boutique hotels in Chania but this hotel sounded authentically Greek and we thought we’d made a good choice.

Whilst the customer service is good at reception etc, and rooms comfortable, our 3 night stay was a bit disappointing. Room was bland and lacked character and our harbour view obscured by air conditioning units. Breakfast was very poor, with not-so fresh salads and cooked items, tired looking pastries and stale breads. The coffee was really awful - served from a push button machine - never good! We asked for fresh filter coffee and got a jug of cold brew.

Housekeeping was great though, and that was appreciated.

I had to cancel my reservation last minute due to the death of my father. I reached out to the hotel asking for a refund and they only offered a rebooking. I accepted the rebooking because it seemed like the only option but after the funeral I wasn't able to go to the rebooked trip. I reached out again asking for an exception and was met with the rudest customer service I've ever experienced. They said that this has nothing to do with them and there are no exceptions whatsoever. This is absolutely ridiculous given the circumstances..

This old Venetian palazzo seems to be under renovation, and the building has a few quirks (our bathroom was down a tight spiral staircase from our sleeping area, room lighting is retro-fitted leaving some shadowy areas). These are offset by the charming furniture including a four-poster bed, impressive architectural notes (high ceilings, good air flow, lots of exposed wood) and modern amenities (upgraded plumbing and air conditioning). The staff were friendly and professional and went above and beyond to assist us with standard and unusual requests. If you want to stay in the old Venetian quarter, check out the hotel Amphora- I think we will be back.

I loved my stay at the Amphora hotel! It was centrally located in the old port area and had amazing views from my room. I recommend getting a room facing the port. The staff was very kind. Chania's Old Port area has lots of options for dining and drinking and things to see and do. There are no cars in the area so taxis will leave you at a certain point then you would have to walk the rest. Not a major thing and having no car traffic adds to the charm of the area. My favorite thing however was just sitting out on one of the terraces of the hotel and just look out onto the port with a glass of wine. Such a beautiful experience.

The hotel is ideally situated within easy walking distance for everything in the old town and beach. Our room was fantastic with high specification bathroom, air con and balcony. The staff were very accommodating and most helpful nothing was any trouble always very polite. The restaurant was very good for either lunch or dinner certainly hope to return.

Dear Antonios. The only way I could respond to your comments was to write another review. Here is my response.
A five star meal isn't just about the food, it's about the whole experience. I cannot fault the food and your kitchen deserve five stars. To get five stars from me as an overall experience, the service as well as the food has to be exemplary. Hospitality is as important to me as fine food. For example - The waiter should fill our wine glasses, we shouldn't do it ourselves - at least not every time. The waiter should ask us how we found our meal, in this case he did not. A five star experience for me is one where I feel my custom is valued and I feel 'special'. I did not. I felt like just another tourist in the everyday running of a busy, popular restaurant. The restaurant wasn't full, busy yes, but not full. We say in English 'the devil is in the detail' and the small details were missing. I hope you do not find this a harsh criticism, it is not meant to be. You don't need my good opinion, you are in a prime position at the harbour. You will be popular regardless. You have a fabulous restaurant, but it isn't quite five star - yet.

Hello and thank you for your interest. This hotel is a renovated 13th century building, and as such has 7 rooms at ground level, 9 on the 1st level, and the balance on the 3rd and 4th floors. There is an excellent balcony room on the 1st floor (Room 11) with only 1 set of stairs to contend with, the balcony overlooks the harbor and has a shower and a queen size bed. If you like, there is a suite with no stairs involved (Room 6), also with a fabulous balcony directly on the port with a magnificent 4-poster bed and bath instead of shower. I urge you to contact the hotel directly for more information. Hope this answers your question, and hope to see you soon in person!

Public parking is plentiful and nearby, tho peak season might mean it will take you longer to find a spot. The hotel is directly on the port promenade, and while this gives amazing views, it cannot be considered "silent". There is, however, 22 rooms, some of which are higher up and to the rear of the port promenade, these rooms areas close to silent as can be expected. I hope this answers your questions
