We were just looking on line for somewhere to stay in Chania for a day or two either end of our recent holiday in Crete. Having never flown into Chania before, we decided to spend a couple of days there on arrival. We booked the Royal Sun because it was on the outskirts of Chania and relatively close to the airport. We arrived late (checked in about 10-00 pm) and were pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant still open. And the food was very good too and reasonably priced. We spent most of the next day in downtown Chania and actually ate again in the hotel the second evening. It was worth it for the view alone - the restaurant overlook Chania and the bay - stunning at sunset. Other plusses included the courtesy bus to/from Chania centre which runs from early morning until midnight every half hour or so. And there is a fabulous pool. Staff were courteous and friendly throughout. Our flight home a nighttime one, but we were able to use the hotel facilities (including courtesy bus, pool and showers) all day after checking out. We will definitely stay here again next time we come to Crete. Worth noting though that there is really no difference between the "standard" rooms and those with a "mountain view". It's only worth paying extra if you book a sea view room.…
We take approximately 6 foreign holidays each year and like to visit different locations each time. However some 6 years ago we found the Royal Sun Hotel in Chania and have visited each year since. It is the ONLY location and hotel to which we have returned. The hotel is set on the hillside with unobstructed and unrivalled views of the town of Chania and the beautiful blue Med. The hotel and grounds are very well kept although the road up to the hotel could be improved. The building is upside down with the dinning room on the upper floor and the bedrooms located below. There is a very large pool plus a kids section although in my opinion Chania is more geared towards adults than kids. Around the pool there are quality sunbeds and shade when required. Parking facilities are provide free. There is also a waiter service poolside. The rooms are larger than average and include a safe, kettle with tea/coffee, large balcony and large tv with has approx 50 stations. The buffet breakfast is included and has excellent choice of hot/cold/fruit/sweat foods. Meals are also available throughout the day and are of excellent quality and very well priced. Beach towels are available for a returnable deposit. For me the big bonus to staying at the Royal Sun is the outstanding staff from management to reception to bar to dinning to cleaning, the free shuttle service into town each evening and the price which in my opinion offers outstanding value.…
Stayed here Early October for three nights. Chose hotel based on Tripadvisor recommendation and wasn’t disappointed. Check in was quick and professional. Chose the premium view room so had a room on the second floor with a large terrace. The views over Chania were spectacular and were similar by the pool and at breakfast. The weather was great and the sun beds and pool were great addition. What we did appreciate was the courtesy minibus - into AND out of town more or less every 30 mins throughout the day. The hotel have to offer this in essence as the hotel is about 3km from the old town - although only 5 mins in the free minibus. Chania town is great and in our opinion much nicer than Rethymnon. The Venetian harbour area was quite busy even in October which was great - we thought it would have been much quieter but is was nice to have that buzz around town. This hotel is ideal for a short break even in late season as I can imagine Chania to be nice into November. Great choice at breakfast as well.…
We stayed here for 3 nights while in Crete for a week. The hotel is a great base for exploring Chania. The rooms are great - we had balcony overlooking the pool. Bathroom compact but had great shower. Breakfast was a good buffet although they could maybe have more fresh fruit. Overall the hotel was spotlessly clean and the pool was delightful with fabulous views over Chania. The bus shuttle service was very reliable - this is important as the hotel is not within walking distance of the town centre - it runs from 10:30 until midnight - a Taxi will cost €8 from town to the hotel. Chania is a wonderful city and you should explore all the superb restaurants in the back streets behind the church - you will not regret it!
I love everything about this hotel! The rooms, the food, the pool, the bus service into town, the staff, the view! The breakfast buffet was great. The food at the restaurant was amazing! The pool was huge! Also has a kiddie pool. Great hotel for families who want to explore Chania town!
