Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
We loved this hotel. Staff so friendly and rooms were wonderful. I can not say enough about the hospitality and how wonderful the staff is. You definitely feel welcomed when you arrive at this hotel. Location is at the harbour so you are close to all shops and restaurants. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely return.
We stayed 2 nights during our roadtrip around Crete in this charming hotel. Newly renovated bathroom, large room, pristine, hearty and healthy breakfast choices, and wonderful Cretan hospitality. In the heart of the old town, you are steps away from everything. We found free public parking close by, down by the Port. Bit of a walk up to the hotel pulling our rather heavy suitcase, but it was doable. After our roadtrip through Crete and Rhodes, we vowed to pack more strategically next time!
Beautiful hotel pleasant staff very friendly. Clean and they change your room each day. The breakfast is very good mix of things english plus fruit and cereal. Also they make the coffee for you. What ever you like. Walking distance to all the pubs clubs and restaurants plus the water front. Plus roof top bars
Excellent location, very nice rooms and very clean (hygiene matters :P) . Also the staff there was excellent (Flora in particular was insanely polite and helpful). Very close to the city center and in a great location such as the old town - old harbour
While staying in Crete, Chania is a nice place to visit and so we did. We stayed one night in the old part of the city in this very charming, nice hotel. Nice rooms with a new bathroom, friendly staff and great breakfast in the best part of town made this stay memorable. Thanks for your kind service! Tom - Valerie and kids
We stayed at Porto del Colombo Hotel whilst visiting Crete on business in March. It's a great location, just a few steps from the harbour and many options for bars and restaurants. There is no elevator and so if you are on the top floor, you need to be of good health. The rooms were large and clean. The bed was very hard for me and when I mentioned it to Roula, she offered me a different room but the bed was the same. I advised it was only for a few nights and not to worry about it. When I returned that evening, I had an amazing mattress topper on my bed. It was very kind for Roula to go to this length to ensure my stay was comfortable - I slept amazingly. The breakfast offering were delicious, all fresh and some homemade offerings. Wonderful coffee, multiple options and fresh orange juice. All in all a really lovely place, family run and truly cares for the guests. Great service, especially for the room rates. Efharisto Roula, I hope you survive this downturn in trade at this current time.…
We stayed there twice on our trip to Chania. Each time they greeted us with smiles, snacks and drinks. They then carried our luggage upstairs to our room, with a lovely view over the Old Venetian Harbor (on our first trip). We had delicious, copious breakfasts each day, with freshly squeezed orange juice and endless capuccinos and lattes. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Eva, Rula and Vasiliki are wonderful receptionists. The second time we stayed in a lower floor room was some three weeks later - this time they greeted us like returning family. We recommended this hotel to friends who were equally delighted. Perfect for a stay in Chania's Old Town - the hotel Porto del Colombo is Chania at its best.
I know that others have complained about the steps. It is a small price to pay to stay in a historic hotel. The rooms are lovely, bathroom updated, and I just can't say enough about the staff. We didn't have a transfer scheduled and we called the staff and they arranged for us! Hermando met us at the drop off point outside the old city and whisked our luggage away and up to our rooms. How he does it I do not know! Eva (sorry if I misspelled) stayed late to check us in. We were greeted with drink and snacks. ALWAYS PAY FOR THE BREAKFAST. Fresh squeezed orange juice, home made pastries, home made jams - just delicious. We enjoyed talking with the staff and everything about this hotel, especially the history! Would stay there again and move in if they let me!! Thank you Porto del Colombo!!!!…
All was excellent. In particular, I would like to express my gratitude to the Team, which created an absolutely unique, truly home atmosphere. This is the first time in my life and among almost 200 hotels I stayed in before, when I can definitely say: I was there like at home. Warm, friendly attention and care, excellent recommendations - it was really much more than I could expect from the hotel. Then I booked the room the hotel team by itself contacted me, inquired about my preferences, necessity of transfer and other things. I`d say that this hotel matches the very high standards of hospitality.
Historic hotel positioned in the heart of the Old Town. Awkward getting suitcases there from free parking and up stairs to the room but they have a porter available who will take the strain for you. Room was small but had plenty of storage space. Service was truly exceptional and I must mention Vasiliki who went above and beyond. We came back with a bottle of wine one late afternoon after a long walk and decided to sit out on the small table outside the hotel to enjoy it. Vasiliki found a couple of wine glasses for us, but also brought iced water, nibbles and fresh coffee. Extraordinarily friendly and helpful. All the rest of the staff were great too, especially at breakfast. We enjoyed Greek yoghurt, nuts and honey with fresh fruit and toast with locally produced preserves. Plenty of other choices available though. If you are looking for a hotel with atmosphere and exceptional service, this is the place for you. …
