I had a very pleasant stay at this charming hotel; great value for the money. Easy walking distance to everything I wanted to see/needed (like the bus station). And the customer service is fantastic. I only wish I had taken down the names of the women at the front desk; couldn't have been more helpful in getting me information to... More

My wife and I stayed at The Porto del Colombo Hotel in the late 90s. Back then there was little in terms of online hotel advice. We simply took a travel book from the library and called this place from a pay phone in Athens. We hadn't made any plans where to stay in Chania, and the Frommer’s or Fodor’s... More

Great value in old town. Original building. Very friendly service. Cafe, gift shops and restaurants all at your doorstep but not noisy at night. 2 min walk to harbour. We will come again and wished we had more time here.

What could be more romantic ? Located in old town Chania, steps from the harbor. This 700 year old building houses a gem of a boutique hotel. The location is amazing, the beds comfortable and the room, although a little small was perfect. Roula and Athena where prefect hosts, providing us with good dining recommendations in local restaurants and even... More

Perfect location, historical building with character, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good breakfast. Great value for the rate. Certainly recommended for couples or singles. No lift for higher floors, in case one is not fit. Great choice for low-mid budget in the magical old town of Chania.

I loved this hotel. The building itself is full of historical character inside and out, it's a few steps away from the old harbourside, and is a great base to explore Chania. The rooms are in lovely Cretan style, quiet, nicely equipped and spacious. Fabulous breakfasts prepared lovingly by the staff started the day very well indeed. The staff themselves... More

To visit Chania is to be transported back centuries and I can think of no better hotel to stay in than the equally historic Colombo. If you are reluctant to climb stairs request a room on the lower floors, but if the climb is not a problem, go for the view. The dining area for breakfast was marvelous. The stone... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. ... more   less
