The Porto Veneziano Hotel is located in Chania, in the prime location of the Old Venetian Harbor, on the seafront and only a 10-minute walk from the city center. It is an ideal place to stay, with the most popular attractions within walking distance. Completing the room renovation in April 2013, the hotel now offers a minimal navy design, excellent quality beds with double mattresses and geothermal air conditioning system, friendly to the environment. The hotel has been certified to serve a full Greek Breakfast with a Cretan note and attempts to provide a journey to the island's flavors and tastes. Enjoy daily our freshly squeezed orange juice, local produce, homemade dishes, traditional cookery, seasonal fruit, freshly made desserts etc. At the Bar, after strolling through the beautiful harbor, guests will enjoy all kinds of coffee and Cretan flavorsome concoctions, snacks, sweets, ice cream, drinks and an assortment of Greek and European ice cold beer. The hotel even offers free Wi-Fi and all rooms and interior public areas are strictly nonsmoking.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
Everything about this hotel was amazing. I would highly recommend the harbour view room as you can relax on your verandah and watch the sunset. The room itself had the most comfortable beds and pillows that I’ve experienced whilst travelling, and the decor was simple, yet charming. The breakfast offers an amazing spread and the restaurant had some delicious options. But most of all the location of the hotel is perfect - right on the harbour but at the quieter end so not noisy at night, and you can walk to anything you want to do or see. The staff are also very welcoming and helpful. I stayed for 6 days and used it as a base to explore Chania and also some of the beaches in the eastern part of Crete, and it was perfect. There’s even a place to swim just a five minute walk away where you can go down some stairs straight into the bay (it’s not an “organized” beach but a nice spot for a quick dip). Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and if ever I’m back in Chania, I’ll stay here again.

+1
Hotel Porto Veneziano's best asset is its premium location directly on the harbor front facing west. GREAT sunset viewing! It's located away from the more touristed side of Chania but within easy walking distance of the restaurants and shops of Old Town. Many rooms have harbor front views. Rooms are well sized and feature comfortable beds with good linens and are relatively quiet. There is a large selection of breakfast items on the a la carte menu (due to COVID no buffet) to choose from and food is well prepared. The hotel restaurant and bar are open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there are plenty of local waterfront options to choose from. The hotel is open year round so in addition to vacationers it also attracts a business clientele. Because of the hotel size it also attracts larger tour groups. If you are driving, there is a small hotel parking area (first come) and the road access is relatively easy. Laundry is also a good deal - EUR 9 for a bag turned over in a day!

The hotel is located at an absolutely perfect location. It is directly at the sea along the promenade, just a few steps from restaurants and bars, yet the rooms are calm at night.
The rooms are tasteful and very clean, quality of bed and bathroom are outstanding and we had a cozy little balcony where we could sit and enjoy the warm breeze.
The breakfast was very nice, in particular we appreciated the extraordinarily forthcoming service and the beautiful location by the water. Some friendly interaction, a nice scenery and tasty breakfast were the perfect way to start into the day.
Finally, we also appreciated the free parking on the premises and the free bicycle and beach towels, which we could use for beach visits.

I cannot recommend this hotel more.. It's centrally located and yet in a quiet area by the picturesque Venetian harbour. Breakfast is currently served a la carte (due to covid-19) freshly prepared and simply delicious, the rooms are super comfortable with high quality beds and furnishings, the staff is beyond friendly and professional. In addition due to covid-19 there are sanitizers everywhere including in each room. We'll surely come back!

The hotel has a perfect location on the harbor, great views, with local fish restaurants on either side, but not in the most touristy part of Chania. We had a side view of the harbor from the balcony in our room. The room was small, but very efficiently laid out, although oddly had no USB ports. The included ala carte breakfast was excellent, with nice harbor views from the ground floor restaurant. The bathroom was small but efficient, with a sliding glass door that left a small gap. The towel bars and hooks were decent, but the shower was slightly slippery.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week and had a fantastic stay. We had a room on the side of hotel with a balcony which had a partial harbour view. This was perfect for us as it had the sun on the balcony most of the day/evening and it was quiet.
The room was cleaned daily and fresh bottles of water were replaced in the fridge which is great in the warm weather. The only small negative with the room is the lack of strange pace if you are staying for a week or longer as there are no draws to put things in.
The hotel have free bikes which can be booked at reception and we used these most days to cycle to the beaches.
The location is excellent, close enough to walk to everything but far enough away to be in the quieter part of the harbour. The view is really lovely especially when having breakfast. We didn’t eat at the hotel for an evening meal as there was so much choice in the old town for restaurants however we couldn’t fault the breakfast and looked forward to it every morning.
The staff are all very nice and helpful and we loved chatting to them. Every one of the staff is a credit to the hotel and because of this we wouldn’t want to single any out as they all did a great job.
Few hints and tips:
- book restaurants in advance. We spent an afternoon walking round doing this and it paid off. Pallas, Tostachi, Pulse, Tamam and Kalderimi are some of the best.
- use the local bus station to get around to visit other places. Good clean buses and not expensive. We also used the sightseeing bus to see more of the island as it’s hip on hop off and ticket lasts 24hrs.
- ask the hotel to arrange taxis to and from airport. They were very helpful and both our taxis were on time. It was 30€ each way.
We rarely go anywhere twice however we would return to the hotel again as we had a perfect holiday.

My husband and I visited Crete as part of our recent holiday in Greece. I am very glad we picked Porto Veneziano as our hotel for our 2 night stay in Chania. The hotel has a marvelous location, right on the waterfront and we were upgraded to a suite with views over the harbour. All staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming. We were particularly impressed with the help we received when trying to park as we drove in late on a Friday evening with the Chania waterfront at its busiest! Breakfasts were delicious with many interesting choices and served outside by the water. Would highly recommend as a great place to stay in Chania.

This was the 3rd hotel of 4 in Greece (1st hotel in Crete). Although this hotel is not on a beach, it still has great charm and appeal. It is on the edge of Old Chania, where markets, taverns, shops, and restaurants line the streets. The room is gorgeous and the views from the balcony are stunning. Breakfasts were delicious, and Zena was an excellent server/waitress. Dinner was exquisitely delicious and unique. We considered popular tours from the hotel, but instead decided to hire a taxi to drive us to many popular attractions for the day. We could have rented a car as well, but driving on these narrow streets and not knowing where to go influenced my decision. We hired Manolis Digenakis (The hotel can contact him for you) at a very reasonable rate and we had a private tour of some of the most beautiful places in Crete. We also went on the long horse and carriage ride. I highly recommend that. If I could change 1 thing about this hotel, it would be location. While the marina is quaint, I would much prefer the beach. Ask the concierge to tell you a bit about the owner of the hotel and his trials and tribulations.

My wife and I are frequent visitors to Chania, always staying at the same hotel, however, when EasyJet announced flights from Glasgow, we found our usual hotel fully booked. We had seen the Porto Venetziano whilst walking around the harbour and both of us felt if it was available that we would love to stay there, it just so happened to have availability. We immediately booked a Classic Double With Sea View.
On arrival we were greeted in a very friendly manner by the receptionist who processed us and directed us to our room on the second floor. There is a lift available.
The Room; quite spacious with everything you would expect to find, large double bed which turned out to be exceptionally comfortable, tv, air con, balcony and an en-suite bathroom. Tea and coffee making with a range of teas to try. All very good. The room was spotless and the view from the balcony across the harbour and seawards was just exceptional. In addition, this area of the harbour has local fisherman, day rental boats and some pleasure craft which meant that there was always something going on outside. For me absolutely brilliant.
Food: Breakfast is included and was outstanding. Call me a bit odd but I judge breakfast on the poached eggs, absolutely perfect every day. it should be noted that the range of choice was brilliant, check the hotels website for full details of your options. Normally my wife and I would go out for dinner but on three occasions we dined at the hotel. Not only was the price very reasonable, the quality of the food was exceptional. Highly recommended.
Facilities: Whilst not a massive hotel, hence no pool, no gym etc, it does have a very nice bar, table service on the harbourside or garden if required. The garden was a haven of peace and quiet and is much better than the website pictures suggest having been upgraded.
Location: Everything is the Old Town is within easy walking and these walks take in the beauty of the old town, you can rent a boat on the doorstep if your feeling adventurous, you can take a horse and carriage ride from further up the harbour or you can visit the many restaurants and bars that exist both in the old town and along the harbourside.
Staff: the personnel in this hotel are exceptional, friendly, professional and clearly take pride in being part of this hotel.
Conclusion: taking everything into account, this hotel is the epitome of what the industry is all about, having a product you take pride in and offering it in a friendly professional manner. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. I would like to extend my wife and I's thanks to all the staff who made our stay in Chania as memorable and enjoyable as it was. We will be back!

What a beautiful, convenient, well maintained, clean hotel. My husband and I, stay here as part of our honeymoon. It was the first hotel in our eventful journey throughout Crete, and they really raised the expectations for the other hotels to follow.
Located in front of the harbor, we had an amazing view, with a huge wrap around porch. The rooms were updated, clean, comfortable, and very spacious.
The staff was very friendly, and very accommodating. We stayed for a total of two nights, however we wish we stayed longer. The location is perfect, and parking is provided, which is a big plus especially in the busy city of Chania.
Everything is within walking distance! The rooms were very well insulated at night, and no outside noise was heard.
Overall amazing experience and would definitely return/ recommend.

Dear friend
Crete is not only a place for vacation. Crete is an experience !!in my opinion you Have to walk , see , ride, smell , investigate , travel and find out many and different beauties than the things you already know !!old harbour must be your base!!!ok there are some beaches only 1km from your hotel like new land and some others only 3 or 4 km like saint apostoloi but do not loose the chance to go west like platanias, Maleme etc!the more west the more interesting!!visit north side too!!all the region of chania is a real treasure!!great food at the tavern of emilia's at zourva village at the highlands!!sfakia village and cannyon of samaria are musts too!!
Contact with hotel manager and ask him if he could ensure for you a nice view room!!if I were you I would ask for it via trip advisor app !!explain then that the reason that you choose them was the reviews about view and that you want live the experience!!hope you have a great stay and have fun
Hi. There is no beach in Chania Town - it it is a stone-walled harbour with rocks. As far as I can recall the nearest beaches to the hotel are around Makris Tichos which is about 3-4km from the hotel. However we were on an archaeological trip so didn’t visit any beaches. I’m sure if you message the hotel they can tell you which are the best beaches and how far they are.
The wisest choice is to ask the desk staff to take care of it for you. They know where you can and can't far better than you ever would. Be certain someone has the presence of mind to jot a note where it is parked.
Just be sure to avoid leaving any temptations in sight. That has zero to do with the hotel staff, but apart from being smart globally, it's just amazing during warmer weather what stunts certain drunken tourists will try when thinking nobody is looking.
It is served from 7.00 until 10.30.
