Booked Kydonia based on its Booking.com location, which shows near bus station. It is in fact closer to the old port. 2 flight of stairs to reach a dingy reception area. Host was very grumpy. Room was tight with a double and a single, all fittings and fixtures were extremely aged and in some cases grubby. Used soap in the bathroom. It is advertised as apartment, but cooker did not work. Could nit open ‘kitchen cupboard because step into bathroom didn’t allow. Noise from upstairs bathroom. The only Lou’s was decent air conditioning
BOKA INTE KVÄLLAR HÄR!!!! DO NOT BOOK NIGHTS HERE!!! —— English text following below the Swedish! —— Väldigt slitet och smutsigt boende med en mycket otrevlig ägare. Madrasserna var riktigt smutsiga och vi hittade även löss på lakanen. Man kunde se dom hoppa runt. ————————— English below DO NOT BOOK NIGHTS HERE!! ————————— Very dirty and run down “Hotell” with a very rude owner. The bed was very dirty, we found flees jumping around on the sheets. There were blood stains on the dirty sheets when we checked in. He didn’t change them everyday. When we showed him the sheets with the big disgusting stains (not only blood) he just said that that they wouldn’t come of. Maybe he shouldn’t be washing them if he don’t know how? We heard the washer every morning because it was next door to our room. If a customer got sheets with spots, you give them new fresh sheets, not blame the it in other stuff. The shampoo bottles and the soap was used and things others had left there. We didn’t get new stuff. When we mentioned this he showed us a couple of other bottles other guests had left there. We only got one toilette roll for three people, whenever we needed more we needed to ask him. We stayed there for a week so this was pretty troublesome and irritating. One time that we were returning to the room we saw that he was cleaning the toilet seat and then went to clean the kitchen countertop and steel with the same rag. The floor was dirty at check in, so it hadn’t been cleaned before our stay. The sewer for the shower was dirty and had stoppage. So the water ran out from the shower into the bedroom when we were showering. The towels we got where dirty and when we asked for new we got dirty towels again. The owner wasn’t always there, and sometimes left the place without anyone being there. So in situations where we needed to speak to him or get something from him (like soap, towels, toilet rolls) he wasn’t there. Every time we interacted with him he was rude and not service minded. Our trip to Chania was very negatively afflicted by this stay, so instead of a wonderful relaxing vacation we got days with lots if issues and tough conversations with the owner. Do Not stay here!!!! …
The room was very dirty! There was a lot of dust and in the drawer we found personal items from the previous renters. The bed sheets and the towels were clean. He didn't give us hand towels! The soaps at the bathroom were used and we had to ask for new ones. He gave us only one roll of toilet paper for four people and we had to ask for more. He told us why should I clean the room every day for you even though it was obvious he didn't even clean after the previous renters left and before we arrived! The house was able to host 4 people but there where only 2 cups to drink from. The balcony rail was rusty and broken. The balconies were tied together to keep them from falling down! It was very dangerous and unsafe! The owner was very rude and unprofessional to us and he asked us for more money on top of our reservation charges based on excuses and lies he thought on the spot, old price on website etc. Fortunately, we had the proof of our reservation and refused to pay more! Avoid at all costs and pay more to a more descent place to stay for your vacations. Stay away!…
+ location - hotel situated on The main Street. Clase to old port, shops with souvenirs, bars and restaurants. +calm - although located on the main street it's quiet. + clean- room very simple in old style but clean and cosy. Towels were changed many times, shampoo and even dental past for free. + nice owner- reception guy very helpful. + stunning view from taras- in one side the see on the other mountain. + economic price.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!! We are a couple plus a 2 year old. The room itself was very basic and over priced, but you pay for the location. The owner is HORRIBLE! He was very RUDE! Half way through our stay, he advised us that a bigger booking has been made, so we would have to MOVE to a smaller room for 2 DAYS. Then move back into our original room. Not only this, he constantly complained about our child (just over 2 years old) being too loud! EVEN THO IS WAS 10am! He told us that we NEEDED to keep her quiet! He did this multiple times before he made it clear he wanted us to LEAVE! Please not that she was not screaming, just laughing while we where playing. When we booked the room we advised him that we had a 2 year old. If he doesn't like children, he should have told us from the start and we would have found elsewhere to stay. End result after being TOLD OFF again about being too loud. We were forced to leave the room and find else where to stay. All this at 11am with a 2 year old... WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!…
How the proprietor, Vaggelis, who without reason insisted on retaining my passport for the duration of my stay, can justify charging 75 euros per night for a room with a bed riddled with bed bugs is incomprehensible....it is shameful and disgraceful. In all the years that I have travelled in Greece, I have never ever come across a guest house as filthy and unhygienic as the Kydonia. In my opinion the proprietor is not only violating basic hygiene standards, but also putting his guests health at risk operating an establishment in such appalling condition. Unfortunately I was unable to find an alternative accommodation. By the time I left, after only two days my left leg was covered in bed bug bites, which developed into very nasty uncomfortable red welts. Under the circumstances I shall be informing the health authorities in Chania expressing my concerns about the condition of Kydonia.…
Stayed here for two nights in August, arrived near midnight without having informed the owner, yet he was there waiting for us, didn't seem to have any problem with our late arrival.Very basic but clean double room, air con, fridge and ensuite bathroom. Yes the decor is dated, but for what you pay for I think it is very good value. I'd have no hesitation recommending it for people on a budget.
Smoked in rooms from the 70s with old carpeting, broken TV and dirty shower curtain, weird lighting, unfresh furniture, no balcony et c. Extremely depressing and out of date, just plain unloved and only in it for the money.... If you have NO other choice, go for this one. Only plus is ac and central location. I can understand why there was available rooms here... 40 euro way too expensive (without breakfast)....
Excellent location, exactly in the heart of the town, near to museums, restaurants, beach and shops, just few minutes walk to the bus station. Simple, but comfortable and quiet room. There was not breakfast available, but coffee shop was downstairs.
Room was very spacious and the balcony onto the street was excellent on getting the street vibe of Chania; however, the noise was extremely annoying when trying to sleep. The table outside that provided all the toilitries that people left was a fantastic idea.
