Just spent a very enjoyable week at this friendly hotel. Room 208 was clean, had a comfortable bed, loads of storage, very efficient shower and a fantastic view of the bay. Special thanks to the staff who really seemed to want our stay to be special. Nicos looked after us at the bar before bed, Jeanette made great cocktails, generally kept us entertained and gave useful advice on the local area. Sally kept everything running smoothly at breakfast and is doing a great job looking after poorly local cats. The cheerful ladies in the kitchen made sure that breakfast was different every day with their tasty homemade pastries, jams and more. The garden is well tended with a variety of plants and trees. The pool is warm, never crowded, always with spare sunbeds in the shade and sun. Thanks also to our cleaner who kept our room spotlessly clean. All in all a great little hotel. On the down side, it is quite a walk into Agios Nikolaos...I would say closer to half an hour than 15 minutes. Especially in the heat. The sunbeds on the nearest beach are expensive and it is quite noisy and crowded. Though you can swim closer. The first part of the walk is on a narrow uneven pavement by a busy road. Not ideal at night. It would be good if the hotel sold big packs of water as they are very heavy on a hot day. Our check in experience was efficient but not particularly welcoming. However we would still thoroughly recommend the Lato and its lovely staff.

Very traditional Greek family owned hotel, very quaint the family that run it are very friendly and helpful.
It’s about 25 minute walk from the centre of Agios Nikolaos
It’s on the road but the road noise wasn’t really noticeable
It has a small pool and sun beds
There’s a small beach about 5 minute walk to the left and a bigger one in the other direction 10 minutes where there are comfy sun beds & umbrella’s €15 2 beds & umbrella and water sports and a couple of beach tavernas.
We were in room 1 downstairs with a table & chairs outside
The room was spotless and cleaned daily in-fact the whole hotel is very clean, room is basic but the beds very comfortable.
Air con works well & there’s a safe it was about €80 for the both
My only criticism would be it could go with more plug sockets & the shower cubicle is very small.
The breakfast was nice with home made cakes/jams etc
We would return as it was a quaint non offensive little hotel, there were shower rooms for your last day ( the shower was a walk in one and much bigger)

We really enjoyed our holiday at the Lato - the location was perfect to explore this part of Crete. Brilliant beaches and restaurants as well as cruises / trips water sports in walking distance. The public bus is Eur2 to Elounda for example, so we didn’t even hire a car. We loved the ‘Happy Hour’ at Jeanette and Carol’s bar for an aperitif and chatting with the other guests. The rooms are a bit small and dated, but they are very clean and come with air con and a fridge to keep drinks cool as well as large comfy beds, good showers and a balcony. Our teenagers loved the fact they had their own room . There is daily maid service, the breakfast is ok. They also have departure day shower’s, brilliant for us as our flight home was late. The hotel has many regulars and hopefully we will be back one day too.

This is a lovely friendly traditional hotel about 25 minutes walk from the main harbour and all the better for it in a tranquil setting.
All the staff we met were brilliant - friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Janet (sorry if I got the name wrong) who runs the bar in the evening. My wife celebrated her birthday while we were there and she was over the moon when she was greeted in the bar with a mix of birthday music and a free cocktail. Also a big thanks to whoever put some lovely flowers in our room.
Buffet breakfast was good and plentiful. This is a great hotel for a relaxing break and thoroughly recommended. Will definitely be back

We stayed here for 16 nights, on arrival late at night we were shown to the smallest room but assured we would be moved the following day which we were. The rooms are not the biggest but are spotless and cleaned every day, the bathrooms have shower cubicles which was a nice surprise. The hotel is very much " returners hotel " which on arrival can feel a bit cliquey but infact is very friendly. The location is fabulous with good restaurants near by and the town a very pleasant 20 minute walk along the sea front.
The bar is run so well by the fabulous Janette, and manned by lovely Nikos later at night.
Breakfast is so good, always a great selection with different homemade bakes evey day, cheese pies, cakes, jams and the ladies who serve it are so lovely. The beach is a pleasant 10 minute walk away.

Found the hotel quiet & relaxing. Rooms I thought were basic but pefectly adequate. After touring other islands we found the breakfast was the best, catering for every nationality so well done there. Staff were very friendly, got to say a big thank you to Jeanette who was great fun & a fountain of knowledge for us & cooked great lunch. Pool didn't get crowded & plenty of sun beds. It is a 15/20 min stroll into town with a mostly level walk. Didn't like the 1st restaurant to the left. A small quiet beach 10 mins turning left out of the hotel. Only sour note is paying for air con, should be included in the price.

We booked with EasyJet their website shows 18 photos of the Hotel Lato, however only 6 photos relate to the Hotel Lato in Agios Nikolaos 2* (where we are staying). 12 of the photos are of the Lato Boutique Hotel which is 4* in Heraklion Town, Crete. These hotels only share names and are not related in anyway, indeed you could say they are opposites. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed when we arrived.

The room we were given 101 which was above reception, noisy, small and very basic, however did have a sea view. When we spoke to George the manager and showed him the photos on EasyJet website he agreed that most of the photos were not of his hotel and they had no connection the other hotel with the same name. We looked at 2 additional rooms but these were also small and the one photo on EasyJet website of the bedroom wasn’t even one of the rooms that EasyJet are allocated.

If you are expecting a 2* hotel it is nice, the space around the pool can get crowded. We had lunch once at the hotel and Janette was really nice and helpful.

Breakfast is a mix of continental and some hot food, don’t expect fried eggs, lovely homemade cakes, but no selection of breads.

Princess the resident black cat 🐈‍⬛ is entertaining but can get grumpy!

Location wise we found it good for us and we did get on the local bus to visit Plaka and Krista and both are definitely worth a visit. It is a good 20 minute walk to the centre with a great choice of restaurants and shops. Most evenings we dined at Patriko which was on the way to the centre, lovely meals and great husband and wife team, highly recommend.

Would we come back to this hotel no, would prefer a better quality hotel but that’s just our opinion they were a lot of guests there who have returning for many years.

After our initial check in we requested a room change which was accommodated without fuss. We wanted a larger room and we were grateful that they had one available.
This is a 2 star hotel so of course it won’t be state on the art, however hospitality, friendliness, cleanliness along with homemade cakes, flans, jams and pasties were in abundance every morning made by Mia.
The gardens are pretty and there is plenty of parking if you have a rental car. Pool is clean and warm at around 25 degrees weather. There are views from
Some rooms and well worth the extra in my opinion.
Jeanette runs the snack bar and
Cocktail bar which was a real bonus. Her chips are out of this world (all hand cut and cooked)and the cocktails great value for money, it’s a great way to mingle before you venture out for evening meals. I have put some recommendations to George (a freezer with some ice creams would be lovely and perhaps afternoon cakes once the snack bar is closed.
I spent my Birthday at Lato and was presented with flowers and a tablecloth for my birthday morning and a cocktail awaited me for the evening. Where else would you get such generosity and friendliness at an amazing price
Thank you to George George Van Jeanette Mia and Christene for a lovely stay.

We stayed at Lato hotel in Agios Nikolaos at the end of May 2023. The owner and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. In addition, the room was very comfortable and clean, breakfast was delicious and varied (fresh fruit, nuts, eggs, bacon, homemade cakes, a selection of bread, fruit juices, etc.) and the pool was very and clean. The hotel also has a lovely garden and terrace for breakfast and drinks. We would definitely recommend this hotel , which is only about 15 minutes on foot from the city centre. We had dinner at a lovely family restaurant in Agios Nikolaos (Avli Taverna). We also visited Spinalonga and Elounda.

Finally we could return to the Lato. We visited in May with our children and husbands parents and again in June just as a couple to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We have been coming to the Lato since 2012 with a few years break (Covid) we were so happy to return. The whole Lato team are always so helpful and always fuss over our boys to ensure they have want they need and want. We stayed in our usual family room in May and a beautiful sea view room above reception in June. The hotel is rustic, it’s not commercialised it’s in a great position for the beach and for the 15/20 minute stroll into town. We did the sub boat from town and hired a self drive boat with friends for half a day from Pelagos dive centre just left out of the hotel which was just the most amazing afternoon of snorkelling and exploring the coastline. We ate in various restaurants you really cannot get a bad meal the local restaurants pride themselves on great food and service.
Lunch at the hotel Is great and Jeanette makes a stunning cocktail.
Overall it’s a friendly low key hotel perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday.
