We have stayed at the Lato many times and visited again after a few years break. All the staff are all lovely, especially the brilliant Jeanette, as usual! What a gem she is! But we were unfortunately, very disappointed by the lack of facilities on this occasion. The breakfast was average, but fried eggs were usually flat cold, and sausage were like small hotdog sausages, uggh! Although the little home made cakes etc were tasty! NO SNACK BAR THIS YEAR! So we couldn't get a snack while sitting by the pool. Jeanette used to do such tasty, well cooked snacks and we missed this sooo much! Also one day we asked for a coffee & were told by Van "Sorry no coffee, as I don't know how to use the machine!" So some people started making hot drinks in their room & brought them down to the pool.- not what you expect to have to do when you're on holiday... not everyone wants to drink beer or cold drinks through the day & a coffee would have been nice. I do appreciate that since Covid there have been certain restrictions, but all other snack bars we went to were serving food and hot drinks, so we could not understand why the Lato snack bar was not in operation? Had it been, we would have stayed around the pool most days, but we had to break off after a couple of hours and go have a snack elsewhere, so it was not as relaxing as previous stays. Other guests we spoke to all said the same, and I did mention how much we, and other people missed the snack bar to George. I really hope this is just a blip for this year, as I feel that the regular clients will look elsewhere for accommodation, which would be such a shame for this popular & normally relaxing hotel. PLEASE, PLEASE, George, George & Van, reinstate the delicious snack bar for next season, it was very much missed! I know the last eighteen months must have been very difficult for the Lato, and this is not criticism, just an explanation of why our stay was a little disappointing this year. Wishing you all well & much success for next year.

Awesome location, close to the town center but without the noise and fuzz. Amazing home-made breakfast with unforgettable jams and cakes. Clean rooms and friendly staff. There’s a nice swimming pool and a garden at the front and an excellent sea view. The pool bar is great for making new friends. Nearest beach “ammoudi” is located about three minutes on foot from the hotel.

Lovely base for a stay in Agios Nikolaos. We stayed during a time when there were quarantine rules in the UK, so I think it was a lot quieter than it normally would be. We were upgraded to a sea view and the Covid health precautions were the best out of the seven other places we’d stayed on our tour of Crete. The room was simple, clean and felt spacious. Our balcony was lovely with a view of the the hotel’s well maintained front garden with fruiting palms and the sea beyond. The pool area was clean and not very busy, likewise the bar was a nice addition to have a drink in the evening before a short stroll into town. Personally I like staying out of town as I like walking but the hotel organised taxis for other guests who preferred to be driven in. The only food we had was breakfast which was varied and plentiful. Being British I’m sad to say a stereotypical highlight was being served a proper cup of tea after two weeks of being given hot water and a teabag on the side (travelling guilty pleasure). Everything was considered and done with attention to detail.
