Detailed Reviews
We have not long returned from a 2 week stay at the Galini Hotel and all I can say is that we had a really good holiday.
When we got there we were checked in straight away and when we got to our room it was not too bad in size basic but adequate. Only real problem we found that the cleaner never changed the water to mop the floor and if you were last in the row the water was rather dirty.
Food was basic but we always found something to eat. The bread was the best and made really good toast in the mornings.
Most of the staff where really friendly but a special thanks to Meelike from the bar she is a great asset to them.
We met a lot of nice people of all nationalities and we can't see why people moan so much when all that we paid for this hotel was £12 p/p p/d A/I this is around the cost of 4 pints of beer each day in the UK.
If you don't like basic pay more.

We read several reviews about this hotel and started to worry BUT when we arrived we were over the moon with the hotel. The rooms are simple but well cleaned and functional. Our balcony was small but enough for many extended evenings watching the sun fade away whilst we enjoyed more local wine and olives. What can we say - look at what you are paying and you'll find that if you enjoy local wine, Greek beer and home cooked food you will not holiday cheaper if you buy your own food and drink and go room only. The people at this hotel were great company, generous of their time and help. We left with no complaints only a sense
of having one of the easiest, more accommodating holidays we have had. Bear in mind, the bathrooms have a drain in the floor and the shower curtains are not really effective at containing the water. If you move the toilet roll out and shower together - life's great. It soon dries out! If you want a neat and tidy screen & flushing toilet then you'll have to pay more and look elsewhere. The pool area was never overcrowded and we never saw an early morning towel hogging a sun bed. The bar staff were friendly, helpful and entertaining, the hotel staff were just fantastic hosts. Costas and Lucy felt like family and made us feel like friends which made leaving at the end of the holiday even harder. 'Sunday' on reception was lovely and always greeted us with a smile and a sense of genuine welcome.
The hotel is a short walk from great beaches, local supermarkets, great bars and restaurants as well as local places to book tours. The tours collect you from the bus stop 100m up the road from the end of the hotel drive. Take what you read in the other reviews with the following advice - look at the cost per person, the hotel is fairly small, but it never feels over crowded. It is a great base to go out from but also has a great pool and bar to spend the day reading and swimming at. I'd go back tomorrow and I feel sure that if we did - Costas, Lucy, Katrina and the team would recognise us and welcome us back with genuine warmth. Thanks to them we had the most amazing holiday this year, one we will always remember with great joy. Cliff and Allison :-)

Stayed here last year and to be honest it wasn’t all that at all. The area is very nice but the hotel is not the best. The food is diabolical- ended up having to eat out a lot which used up a lot of my spending money - defeating the object of all inclusive and we are not fussy eaters at all!
Was not impressed with the fact that we had to be out of our room by 10am but wasn’t getting collected to go to the airport until late afternoon. They wouldn’t let us use a room to get showered and changed which was a real pain especially when they had let another family have full use of a room in the same situation. That was the icing on the cake for me. Would go back to Crete but definitely won’t be staying here again.

We were welcomed very hospitably by the hotel staff. All personal are very friendly and helpful. They recommended amazing places to visit and also told the best ways to get there.
The food was amazing! You get home-cooked meals three times a day.
This is the best choice for a cozy and peaceful time, unlike crowded 5-star hotels. Here you will get everything you need.
Thank you for a wonderful time!

Just got back from a wonderful holiday. We stayed at the Hotel Galini. I’ve travelled a lot for work and I have to say this is the friendliest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Owned by Kostas and his family,!you are assured a warm welcome. The food was unpretentious Greek fare, we were more than satisfied. There was a pool BBQ the night after we arrived, it was fantastic. Lots to see and do in the area. Kostas can let you know what’s on offer, lots of really good advice. We’d gladly stay at the Galini again. Great value and a lovely vibe.

Firstly this review is listed under Hersonissos even though the Galini Hotel is not actually in Hersonissos itself.
The Galini is actually located in a small, quiet Cretan village called Anissaras which is about 10 mins in a taxi or by bus to Hersonissos or 10 mins in the other direction to Analipsi.
The Galini offers a clean, tidy and pretty Cretan hotel with a pool, plenty of sunbeds and a poolside snackbar by day (bar by night, see further down).
The Galini has a good size supermarket within a 2 minute walk and the pretty, quiet shingle beach is just a 10 min walk downhill.
One of the most inviting things by far about the Galini are the staff who own and run the hotel. They go out of their way to be hospitable, helpful and friendly.
Effi and the guys at Reception are fantastic and can help with car/quad and scooter hire if need be as well as book your horse and carriage rides (again see further down).
Meals at the Galini (which is a half board or all inclusive hotel) are served buffet style to allow you to pick and choose your own food and serving size.
We stayed half board but most days didnt get up in time for breakfast.
Dinner was usually laid out as salads, soups, hot main courses and deserts from which you help yourself.
Manelos the waiter will set your table and take your drinks order, he usually will also bring a smile to your face... thats if the sea view from the dining room hasn't already.
After dinner you dont have to go far for a great evening, just stroll across to the pool bar and visit the fantastic Kostas but be warned, Kostas doesnt like to see anyone not having a good time!! :-)
The pool bar also offers some themes such as Prize Bingo, Karaoke and BBQ lunches on set days.
And make sure you ask Kostas for one of his legendary cocktails!!
During the day the pool bar also offers cooked breakfasts and snacks for guests who are not all inclusive. The food is good value and tastes great so well worth a try and remember to say 'Hi' to the lovely Sanya.
The Galini offer air conditioning, fridge hire and safety deposit boxes (which are located in reception for extra security) at a small extra cost.
The rooms are cleaned daily, towels and bedding changed 2-3 times per week.
Our room was large and had a double bed, cushioned seating bench, dressing table and stool and double wardrobes. Our en-suite had a shower, toilet and basin and we had a balcony with sea view which had a small table and 4 chairs on it.
Anissaras is a quiet, pretty little Cretan village situated between Analipsi (another beautiful village, well worth a visit with a nice sandy beach) and lively Hersonissos which is great for shopping.
One 'must do' while your here is the horse and carriage rides bookable at Reception.
For just 20 Euros each you are taken on an hour long carriage tour of the old villages of Old Hersonissos, Piskopiano and Koutouloufari....they are beautiful!!!
Alternatively you can choose a coastal tour.
The horse and carriage rides are run by the local Arion Stables (George and Zara) which are also well worth a visit.
Located inland, the Arion stables have their own taverna/bar with gorgeous homecooked Greek dishes, a play area for the children and a chance to see the horses at home all the while taking in the mountain views surrounding them.
As you will have gathered from this review we really love Crete and this is our 2nd visit to the Galini (3rd to Crete).
We regard Kostas and his family as great friends.
If you want a large complex in the thick of it all then the Galini may not be for you.
But if you want a traditional, friendly, family run hotel for all ages in a pretty Cretan village which is the ideal base to explore from then the Galini would be a good bet!
I must be mad as I should keep the Galini my secret but its such a shame not to share it..... I'll be back to see Kostas and the family again as soon as I possibly can!

A big thank you to the staff at galini for an amazing holiday. Nothing was ever too much to ask as they were all very helpful. I don't understand how people can complain about the hotel as it has a very homely feel to it. The food was very nice and organic feshly cooked and my son enjoyed at every meal as the catered for all ages and food kinds, not toention the bbqs there was something for everyone. The pool is amazing and clean. I met lovely people and saw lovely places thanks to the staff advice on places to see, and it was all booked by them. Would definitely go back 😊

I don't understand why people complain when they choose 3 star hotels, they can go to 5 stars and pay £2000 per person and Gallini Hotel is a really good value for money!!
