Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.

We are a couple of Athenians now living abroad and returning to our home city for Christmas. We stayed at Nefeli for 10 nights and we had the best holiday ever at a very friendly price (£50 per night including breakfast). The room was basic but comfortable, double bed as requested, new mattress and pillows, additional heating by air-conditioning which we rarely used and a small fridge. The breakfast was original Greek with great yoghurt, koulouri (sesame bread hoop) with cheese and olives, fresh oranges and strong coffee. The staff was very friendly and reception open 24 hours. This is the best location to stay in the city. There is a traditional coffee shop around the corner 'Glykys' and all archaeological sites within walking distance. We will definitely return to Nefeli next year.

Stayed at hotel for 7 days with breakfast included. We moved from one room as you could hear outside noise to another room which was a lot better. Staff at hotel and cleaning staff are really nice and will do anything to help. Breakfast is the same everyday and is large. Hotel is spotless and is so well located. The hotel is extremely well priced for location and has heating and fridge in room. I would return to stay here again

Other than the convenient location, we found little to enjoy at Hotel Nefeli. Our sparse room with two twin-size beds had one flat pillow each, no blanket and a tiny table between them. Very heavy blankets were stored in a cabinet, too heavy for Athens' warm weather but as is, we were not comfortable. No a/c in the room and loud revelers in the street below until the wee hours contributed to the discomfort.Worn out mattress was another discomfort. Also, due to the ancient plumbing, no tissue allowed in the toilet so it had to be placed in a bucket after use. The reception hospitality was barely there with just a cursory greeting and an attitude that let us know not to bother either the man or woman at the desk. Breakfast was ample and that's the reason for the two stars along with the location. Also, the front reception area is quite nice, although very small. We would not stay at the Hotel Nefeli again. We felt the rate per night was exorbitant and the comfort minimal.

Response from Giannis K, Υπεύθυνος Δημοσίων Σχέσεων at Hotel Nefeli

Dear guest, We would like to thank you about your kind review regarding to the location of our hotel! We feel very sorry about the fact that you found our beds and pillows uncomfortable, since we have recently renewed our mattresses and pillows and our rooms and beds size (as well as reception) follow the standards of 2 stars hotel. Due to the fact that your staying was in November, every room has stored blankets that can be used according to guest’s needs, considering that guests from around the world have different needs regarding to temperature. Therefore, using the A/C unit that is placed in every room of the hotel accordingly (heat or cool with temperature setting ) solves any temperature discomfort. As you have noticed due to your kind review about location, our hotel is placed in a very central spot in the middle of historic Athens, full of sightseeing and life, therefore a bit of noise is expectable during busy season (Authentic Classic Marathon of Athens every November) and full occupancy. Regarding to plumbing, please notice that in Greece, it is not allowed in any place to throw tissue or other trash in the toilet, therefore you are requested to use the proper trash bin. We also feel very sorry about the hospitality of our receptionists, despite the fact that our staff is on duty 24/7 , greeting you always with a smile and try their best to to satisfy your needs if you have mentioned them during your staying (need of extra pillows, different kind of bed linen, directions on using the A/C unit and bathroom trash bin etc). As you’ve mentioned, our breakfast follows all the standards of 2 stars hotel and contains a variety of products such as: - bread, rusks, bread sticks, cake - greek yogurt - eggs - fresh season fruits such as oranges and apples - variety of spreads ( cheese, marmalades, honey, chocolate, butter) - peach compote - greek olives - coffee, tea, orange juice. Therefore we feel happy that it was ample for you. Finally, we would like to inform you that the room rate always follows season and region policy, besides category. Thank you for staying with us. We take your comments under consideration, always trying to improve our services. Best regards Nefeli Hotel team

The Hotel Nefeli is located in the Plaka district of Athens, just minutes away by foot from major tourist attractions such as the Acropolis and the Parthenon. The Nefeli is a pleasant family-run hotel with a friendly staff and decent, clean rooms that are basic, but comfortable based on our experience staying at other Plaka hotels in the past. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, particularly Yiannis and Maria who were working the front desk during our stay, and the woman who brought breakfast to us.The next time we need to stay in the Athens city center we surely would consider reserving a room here once again.
