We had splendid time at Cecil Hotel! It's needless to say that Athens is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Europe, but staying at this lovely little hotel really complemented our wonderful vacation. Sure, it is not a fancy hotel and the rooms and the bathrooms are pretty small, but it has a really charming interior. The... More

We had a great stay , the location is awesome , it is right on the footsteps of Acropolis. he Cecil Hotel has a certain charm like that of traditional pension, and the old 'cage lift' is great. The staff are genuinely friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean, tidy and very functional. The breakfast were great, with Greek... More

Though modest from the outside, don't let this put you off. The Cecil Hotel has a certain charm like that of traditional pension, and the old 'cage lift' is great. The staff are genuinely friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean, tidy and very functional. The breakfast were great, with Greek yoghurt, honey, ham, cheese, bread and lovely jam.... More

Stayed for 1 night and we are so glad that was all. It was disgusting - wasn't cleaned properly - shower was mouldy - Beds were terrible - Wifi was terrible - Room/hotel was rundown, old and left to rot Overall, I'd never stay again. Plenty of better hotels for similar price. Go anywhere else.

We hadn't booked a place when we arrived in Athens. A lady we met who was on out plane suggested we stay there because that was where she was saying and it was close to the airport. We agreed; the clerk seemed very friendly telling us where to eat, etc; He charged us 50 euros. We thought that was a... More

It was one of the worst experiences that we have ever experience in a hotel while traveling abroad. The main problems: 1) Starting from the second day of our staying till the last day (Sunday-Friday) we didn’t have hot water in the shower. Although we spoke with every one over there each and every time we were told that “everyone... More

We visited Cecil June 2015, only because our usual hotel was fully booked. Experience was relatively ok, except for the bill that we have been charged twice: once on the credit card at the reservation, and once again on the same credit card at the check out. We wrote hundreds emails asking for refound. They kindly answered to the first... More

The rooms are simple. The staff and the front desk wear nice enough but not really that helpful. The location is ok, but the street is quite rough and there is a sports bar near the hotel that had people being loud until late in the evening. The breakfast was simple but a nice addition. It was fine for an... More

An old, comfortable, reasonably priced hotel in Monasteraki, close to the Metro for getting to Pireaus and easy walking distance to Plaka. The breakfast is good. Wifi is good on the first floor. TV has BBC World for English news. Rooms are comfortable.

Cecil is in a odd narrow building with a reception area just a bit larger than a telephone booth. The elevator is an old fashioned iron bar desigh operated by a stack of brick counterweights. It is charming just for its quirkeyness. The room was tiny and the bathroom was probably the smallest we have ever experienced. But, the bed... More

Staying in Psirri / Gazi

Neighborhood Profile
Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighborhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.
