It is a small boutique hotel with very friendly accommodating staff. It is centrally located. If you leave the hotel going to the right towards the museum you will hit the shops If you veer to the left towards the ruins you will hit vendors that make there own. Good in 1.5 kil. Both areas have tons of restaurants and... More

I have been staying here for years whenever I come to Athens. Lovely, solicitous staff, good breakfast, clean rooms, quiet location. Can't ask for better from a hotel so centrally located to the Plaka, Acropolis Museum, Parthenon, etc. Very easy trip on the metro from the airport, which I would recommend. Prices have been creeping up over the years, but... More

We loved our short stay (only 18 hours between flights!). Lovely suite view and delicious dinner suggestion at rooftop sister hotel. Literally 30 seconds to the museum and short walk to Parthenon and Plaka. Would suggest for anyone, and will keep in mind for next visit! Big thank you to the staff for the gracious hospitality Greeks are known for!

We have been to Athens several times and will only stay at the Philippos. It is close to the Parthenon, the Plaka and within walking distance to almost everything else of interest. The hotel and staff are top notch.

The hotel is in a perfect position, safe & walking distance to restaurants, 5 min car ride to port. Concerned at first with room size They are small but adequate, thats standard in Athens. Bathrooms are clean & modern with great shower pressure even though small. Breakfast is continental with a good variety. Acropolis 3 min walk up hill. Hotel... More

Athens was the first city we visited after our long trip from California. We stayed at Philippos in the Old historic Plaka district. It was a good choice because we had a very good sleep that night due to the very calm neighborhood. The room was ready for early check in so it was nice to go shower before going... More

The location is great, one and a half blocks from the new Acropolis Museum. I had a small room, but it was all I needed, very clean, with a comfortable bed. I would describe this property as comparable to a boutique Sheraton or Marriott. A very adequate buffet breakfast started out my day. It had a large lobby with a... More

It was my second visit at Philippos and I was even more delighted to see it was not a "coincidence" the first good impression. It is a small and nice place to stay, close to Acropolis (just few steps, truly). The breakfast is not the most luxury one but the food is fresh and good (and loukoumades ... yaaamy). The... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
