Friendly comfortable hotel in excellent location near the metro and the Archaeological Museum. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Can see the Parthenon from the roof garden. It is worth paying a little more to stay on floor five or six to get a large balcony and good views.

This was our third visit to Athens and each time we have chosen to stay at the Philippos Hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent, being within walking distance of the main historical and touristic areas of Athens. The Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum and many other important and interesting sites are just a few minutes walk away, and there...

This was our 1st time to Athens so we wanted to be close to all the main attractions to take full advantage of our time there and the Phillipos certainly fulfilled this requirement. The Acropolis, Plaka and numerous other attractions are only minutes away by foot. In fact our room provided a view of the Acropolis. Our room was comfortable...

Dear Niffy_10, "Great Location " Thank you! It is true that our location is a hidden gem! Two blocks away from the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, next to the touristic Plaka -the old Athens- but in a quiet residential neighborhood. We are delighted that you had a pleasant stay with us and are looking forward to welcome you...

Excellent stay at Philippos Hotel. Upgraded to "Penthouse" without requesting it. Our room was very tiny but we enjoyed a large adjoining and private terrace overlooking the Acropolis. Beautiful at night! Excellent breakfast!

Nice hotel, well located, good breakfast, friendly people. The hotel is very close to the acropolis. The museum is also very nearby. The street is very silent. We enjoyed the stay and we would like to come back.

I stayed at the Hotel Philippos for 3 nights in April 2017. (I got a great flight + hotel package on Orbitz.) The hotel is easy to find, just a couple of blocks from the Acropoli metro stop. All the front desk staff I met were friendly and spoke great English. I got a room on the second floor so...

Philippos was a great stay. Good breakfast and friendly staff. The rooms are a bit smaller than expected, but considering the price and location, Philippos was fantastic! I would recommend Philippos for a trip to Athens.

I was traveling with a large group and Philipos housed us all without issue. Plus, the breakfasts were first rate! I was in a triple room, and it was very spacious. We all had access to everything we needed, and the showers were hot!

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
