We arrived about 10PM after a flight from Budapest. Check in was efficient and the room was good. There was a large tear in the carpet outside the door to our room which degraded our opinion of the hotel. The room was quite small and dim facing into a light well looking into other windows. Breakfast was very good with...

You can't get any more central, with most of Athens highlights within easy walking distance, including the Acropolis, Plaka and other attractions. The hotel is comfortable but could use an "update." The breakfast is plentiful. The WiFi a bit on the slow side but worked. Make sure you ask for a bigger room and try to get one with at...

The hotel was situated on a pedestrian street, Ermou, and served as the perfect base to explore Athens. There were many shops and restaurants nearby, and a Hop-on Hop-off bus stop was step away. Though we later realized that we did not need the bus at all since most attractions including the Acropolis could be reached by walking. Staff were...

This hotel made our trip to Athens so easy because it was in such a great location. Walk in one direction and you're at Syntagma Square and there's the metro, in another direction it's Plaka with all its wonderful little alleys and restaurants, and the hotel itself is on one of the main shopping streets in the city. The breakfast...

My boyfriend and I visited Athens in June and stayed at this hotel for a week. The best thing about this hotel is it's location-it doesn't get anymore central than this. Walking distance to main attractions, restaurants, shops, coffee shops etc. Our room was clean and somewhat modern, BUT our window was facing a wall. Because of that, it was...

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
