We stayed at the hotel for four nights at the end of November, and greatly enjoyed the experience. The hotel is a 40 minute bus ride from the airport, and a 10 minute walk from the bus journey's end at Syntagma Square. The front of the hotel overlooks the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the higher floors at the back...

This is such a lovely hotel. Our room had a balcony and an amazing view of the Temple of Zues, whilst the view of the Acropolis from the restaurant is just stunning. The staff were so helpful throughout and we would thoroughly recommend staying here. We would certainly return!

This is an excellent place to stay: the view of the acropolis from the roof top bar is amazing with an equally good view of the temple of Olympian Zeus on the other side. The breakfasts were delicious and generous, ranging from cheeses, eggs and bacon to dolmades-- this may have been one of my favorite parts of the trip....

We stayed here for four nights for an Athens City break. The hotel is perfectly situated in the city centre and within walking distance of all the main attractions. Our room was very comfortable and quiet and a good buffet breakfast was available in the rooftop restaurant which had great views of the Acropolis. The staff were very helpful and...

Athen's Gate Hotel is a 38 Euro cab ride from the airport. It is located within walking distance of the Acropolis, the City Gardens, and the Parliament. Cabs and the subway offer easy transportation to the entire city. Free breakfast on the rooftop was only surpassed by the unobstructed view of the Acropolis. I also was pleasantly surprised to have...

The hotel has a very good situation but the room with view on Zeus temple has also a view on a road with 6 lines used all the night. This hotel has a direct connection with the metro, and restaurant a near by the hotel. Don't book a room with a nice view on Zeus temple( these rooms are more...

This was our 2nd time in Athens Gate Hotel. Although it was superior room, the room was smaller than the first one. At the front side traffic noise is a huge problem and we knew it, but view is so nice we again asked for front side. We stayed at room no 603 and our 3rd night we woke up...

We stayed here for a week and enjoyed every moment! Our view from our 7th floor room was spectacular! We were able to walk to each location on our list. Dining is very close as is the Plaka. The staff was very accommodating and friendly.

In my opinion, the places that are nicer in Athens are basically the Plaka (the nicest), Monastiraki y Koukaki neighborhoods. The hotel is ideally located to walk all these places. After visiting the city and see the other hotels I will consider this to be the best located. Many of the other hotels that are well located in Plaka, do...

We booked a superior family room, which turned out to be two adjacent rooms (not connected) behind a hallway door that could be locked. So it turned out to be perfect for a family of four. The location is fantastic - our rooms looked out onto the Temple of Olympian Zeus and we were a 5 minute walk from the...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
