My family stayed at the Grand Bretagne in June for 2 nights. My husband and I had stayed there many years ago and couldn't wait to go back with our two sons (ages 10 and 13). The hotel is beautiful from the front door, to the lobby, through the stairwell, and to the roof! The rooms are extremely well appointed... More

This was our second stay here, hotel,is as lovely as ever and perfect for a one day stay prior to departing for the Greek Islands. Minor quibbles. When you fly overnight and are told check in is at 2 pm, waiting an extra hour just adds to travel exhaustion, as was the case this time. The shower in our room... More

Spectacular view of Acropolis from the rooftop restaurant/bar. High end hotel in good location for walking to shopping, restaurants, touring local sights. Free WiFi in lobby, rooftop, and business center. Everything in slow motion from checking in/out, being served to getting luggage. Not saying this was bad just keep this in mind if you have a timetable to keep. Hotel... More

There is a lot to like about this place, and let me go over that first. The location cannot be beat. You are across the street from the Parliament and short walk to the main sights in Athens. The common areas are beautiful (although crowded and therefore noisy). The rooftop restaurant was booked, but we had a drink at the... More

Our recent stay at the Hotel Grande Bretagne was exceptional. The room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast outside included a breathtaking view of the Acropolis. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My only advise is this - make use of the room safe for all valuables and be extremely careful with items such as cell phones when... More

The location couldn’t be better. Everything is really close… Museums and monuments, shopping malls, great restaurants and bars and more… It’s a luxurious hotel no doubt. It’s a bit heavy for my taste but I always stay there when I’m in Athens. Why? Employees are extremely nice, you feel pampered and comfortable, they pay attention to details and your personal... We were here for two nights before a Linblad Cruise among the islands. Hotel was nice, food was good but not really super! Service in the restaurant off the lobby was not good. We received food and didn't get wine till ten minutes later. Good location. An ok experience in a classic hotel.

This hotel has been considered the best hotel in Athens for decades and we can understand why after our visit. Upon entering the lobby, one can walk straight through to a beautiful atrium area where you can have tea, coffee or a light lunch, it is exquisitely decorated and the service is superb. We stayed on the butler floor with... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
