Stayed here again on just an overnight this time. Spectacular room walked out onto a huge patio with a view of the Acropolis. A bit slow at checkin but otherwise very responsive service. The concierge desk was particularly helpful this time, pre-arrival, in arranging multiple transportation services including several outside the time of our stay that did not involve the hotel in the itinerary. GB restaurant was spectacular and open, terrific service and excellent food.

This classic fin de siecle hotel is still the star of the Athens hotel scene. Great location, service, comfort, amenities, and cleanliness, yet retains the elegant glamour of the days of the Grand Tour without being garish or stuffy. The sleek rooftop bar and restaurant have exceptional views of Athens and the Acropolis. It's a popular spot for tourists and locals alike so book early or try to get a seat at the bar.

Certainly this is a five star property and this is my fourth stay over the years at this hotel. But the 5 star ratings people are giving are likely not people that have stayed here before COVID. Issues we have had and we have only been here for 24 hours. 1) room not ready at checkin in time. Titanium member, several communications with the hotel prior to our arrival. No excuse for a hotel not having a room ready at the normal check in time for a returning hotel guest at an elite level. This is not appropriate, and poor front desk management. 2) absolute no consolation offer for the inconvenience, just a simple be happy we are giving you this great upgraded room,,, that I had already used my suite awrds for, and was confirmed days before, and then tried to shame in to being grateful. It was ad odd interaction. The front desk manager belongs at a courtyard not a luxury collection. Clearly, I didn't appreciate that interaction. 3) the hotel is packed... if you want to eat upstairs at night, book before your trip. 4) COVID restrictions have really limited service. Gym not available unless you make reservations, but on checkin all prime spots are already booked. They offered me a 2130 tonight for a work out or to go the king george. Make your reservations before you arrive. 5) Lobby bar not open during the day 6) Spa (the steam room sauna indoor pool) closed because of COVID . I get it, but if you have been to this hotel, you know this is one of the best things of the hotel. 7) Pool packed, absolutley no spots and packed in like sardines. and not cleaned. Not appealing at all. So with that being said, is it a a beautiful hotel, yes it is, BUT you just cant use any of it, so whats the point of spending $700 plus for hotel that is just a bed. The service is of course excellent, although they are stressed because the hotel is full, so even that is not what is was in the past. As you can tell I am pretty disappointed in this trip. As a side note, I was in Athens in June 2021 and stayed at the other nearby Marriot property, the NEW hotel. The service was significantly better, the rooms are different but on the same quality. One could argue they are not even comparable, but literally at the GB you are getting a room. All the great things you think you are getting are either not available or restricted. So why not pay half the price. I am sure this hotel will be better in the next few years, but I think it should be avoided for now. They are willing to charge much higher prices than pre covid, but provide very limited services. What is the point of staying at then GB then ? I think this experience will send me to back to a plaka hotel in the future, NEW hotel, electr metropolis etc. You can only blame so much on COVID...

Pool bar closes at 7. Lunch not until 12 noon. They are still on 'full Covid' schedule, despite the plethora of guests/tourists. Had lunch in the 8th floor dining room (pool bar area too crowded). Wine pour was pathetic, barely filled the bottom of the wine glass. Food was, however, excellent.

This is hands down the nicest hotel in Athens. Centrally located and easy to access, you can visit all sights from here. From the moment you arrive you realize the attention to details and immediately feel like you’ve entered an era from the past rich in history and elegance. Could not recommend a better hotel!
