The Welcommon Hostel is located in the center of Athens, at the heart of youth, social and cultural activities, easy to reach with public transport and in walking distance from Acropolis, National Archaeological Museum, Acropolis Museum, Omonia Sq and the historical city center (Plaka). We offer accommodation to social, cultural and environmental active persons, of all ages, with a variety of options; a cheaper or a little more expensive room, 4- or 8-beds dormitory, 5-,4-3-, 2-beds rooms, with en suite or shared bathroom. It is the first hostel in Athens run by a Social Cooperative "Wind of Renewal". It is a hostel for sustainable tourism with social impact, which combines commercial activities with social, intercultural and environmental goals. It opened at the end of June 2018, after a general renovation of the building based on reuse approach, aimed at turning it into a youthful, comfortable, creative hostel. It is part of the Hostelling International. Hostel World & LE MAT Networks. Our moto is "special people, places, values".

Detailed Reviews
I was travelling by bicycle in Crete after having landed in Athens. I wanted to keep the same bicycle box I travelled with as I did not have a lot of time to look for a new one on my return from Crete. I inquired at several places including the first establishment where I stayed if I could leave by box in their care for approximately 11 days and the Welcommon Hostel was the only establishment to offer me this favor without any fee. When I asked if they could store my bicycle during my stay on my return from Crete they happily offered to keep my bike in the store room behing the reception.

It is a such great place. The staff and the volunteers are super helpful and nice. The social aspect about the Hostel is amazing and I appreciate your work a lot. They organize a lot of very cool and fun activities for travelers, refugees, locals etc. - just for everyone who likes to join. It is a safe space where they make you feel welcomed and empowered! I love it!

Booked the same morning (05/18/24) for a last night in Athens in order to be closer to the airport the next morning and therefore more peaceful.
Nothing to complain about, it was perfect for the price 20€/person, we took a room for 4 (4 x 1 single bed).
The room was spacious, clean, the premises also
The people at reception were very friendly and cool!
10€ breakfast was perfect
A good address with only one downside, no hot water in the shower, it stings!!

Worst hostel ever. Do not stay here. It’s dirty. It’s got no facilities. Nothing works. The kitchen has no equipment and you share the place with refugees who play loud music all day. There is no wifi. No ability to buy water and you can’t drink the water from the tap in Greece. The staff are kind but the place is falling down. Do not stay here.

It is totally abusive that they have a child with motor difficulties fighting up and down a line of customers with problems with their keys. A total lack of respect. They force you to put your key on a basket with hundreds of keys and good luck with that..
Our checking took 1 hour and we have decided to pay other place for day and lost the cash
for another place because of the ugly vibe that this place gave us. With a lot of people complaining.
A TOTAL DISASTER and guided by unscrupulous owners.

I stayed in Welcommon Hostel this summer and had a great time: great location close to the center and the monuments and a lot of nice places to eat and have a drink, I liked the atmosphere, the friendly staff, interacting with various volunteers taking part in social activities and the refugees from all over the world who came to learn or take part in activities.
A great place with a noble mission which deserves all our support!

It's amazing to find a place where you are collaborating in a social cause. The managers and the staff are very nice. Cozy rooms and well located. I have spent a few days there and I have felt like at home.
I will come back for sure.

I love this hostel and especially the girl who wears the birds in her hair at reception. If your looking to meet some like minded humanitarians then you will find that here. The staff are friendly and helpful and a simple breakfast is provided to keep you going. The rooms are cleaned every day I was here. There is some opportunities to offer some activities/ entertainment or workshops here in the class rooms and common area they have on site where some local lessons take place in languages etc.
I would come again.
Thanks

Pick another hostel in athens...I stayed here with my cousins for one night in June 2019 and it was miserable. The staff was generally friendly and their English was good. However, our room’s (408) air conditioning did not work at all. We had to open the window to get any semblance of fresh air, which was an invitation for bugs and mosquitos all night long. It is also noisy! Cars and motorcycles zoom down the street into the late hours. The WiFi did not work in the lobby or in the rooms, and we did not receive any instructions of how to fix it. The beds are what you can expect from a hostel, but the towels had small hairs all over them along with stains from prior users. The kitchen was also a wreck and the stench of left over food permeated throughout the common spaces. This was my first hostel experience in Athens, and although this place is cheap, I can assure you that your money will be better spent elsewhere.

Dear We don't know why you say that you did not receive any instruction on how to fix wi-fi. Have you asked the reception for this? It happens with some mobiles, it is not a problem of the wi-fi network. But in any case we are ready to help our clients. Sorry, but we have never seen until now such a negative comment, that the Hostel is miserable. Maybe you used the kitschen immediately after the use of it by anothe guest, but the kitschen is a new and clean one, although it is the rensonisbility of all the users to keep it clean, we have also asked the cleaning - team to care to clean the kitschen. For the air-condition, have you asked the reception if you had a problem, in order to show you how it works? It is a central cooling system. About the towels, we give them to a speciai company in order to clean and sterilize them, but if you had any problem you had to ask for a new one. have you asked the reception for a new one? As you know we have 24/7 reception service and if our clients have any problem, they can ask the eceptionists for help. Thank you for your comments, although maybe a bit hard, we will check if there was any problem in the period you stayed in our hostel. In any case we care to improve our services.

Having visited this space in a previous incarnation and it's work with Refugees, the new Hostel gives a prime location for anyone sightseeing around Athens. It offers basic but very clean rooms with en suit as well as traditional hostel facilities of dormitories. The best bit is that your stay contributes to the work the organisation continues to do with refugee communities in Athens, especially children and young people. Volunteer, or visit but definitely go
