Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.

Hi DBfact2, They are very different but both very nice. The Residence is much smaller. The staff is extremely kind and accommodating. We had breakfast included in our rate. It was a buffet with many choices in a beautiful top floor room with a balcony. We held our conference at the Grand across the street, which is also very, very nice. You can’t really go wrong. We took the subway everywhere and it was right there. There is a very cool art/restaurant/bar scene not far from the hotel.

"City view can be loud, so save on the view and have breakfast or a night cap at the top floor bar to enjoy the same, if not better view."
"Choose a room with a city view, it's gorgeous and does an excellent job at drowning out the city noise."
"Despite the noisy traffic, they are quite sound proof, I face the traffic, no problem, great design."
"I recommend a room facing the square, if available."
"For quiet and sound sleep, prefer an upper floor; end of corridor; facing back (no view though) away from the Square."
$102 - $233 (Based on Average Rates for a Standard Room)
