Detailed Reviews
This place was nice campsite that makes you forget your busy life.
We could enjoy various activities and the starry sky was very beautiful at night. The facilities such as showers and toilets were also very clean and I enjoyed camping comfortably. And the owner couple were very nice people. They kindly helped us when we were in trouble. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's a wonderful place to visit once in a lifetime. This is a highly recommended place. We will definitely visit again.

Great location if you want to get away from it all, right on the banks of the Clarence River. There are private camping spots plus a public area. Pit toilets are provided and some basic shower facilities, plus two camper's kitchens. Drinking water is either river water or rainwater tank. Note, also, there are no rubbish facilities so, rubbish in, rubbish out. Locaton is pretty easy to get to but if you have a two-wheel drive vehicle and are towing, if the weather turns wet, it might be a little hairy getting out of there due to some steep climbs and descents.
On reflection, we thought it was a little expensive compared to other remote camping experiences that we've had with better facilities. Also note that the price listed on their website is incorrect as they will ask you to go through Hipcamp which means the daily rate is more expensive. They should reflect the Hipcamp price on their website as it seems to be the only mechanism of paying to stay there. Also note there is no fishing as a location as it is so as a wildlife refuge. The owners are more than happy to suffer other fishing locations though.

Hi Bibbulmun, Thanks for taking the time to review our property and give future guests an insight into what we offer our visitors in the way of facilities and road conditions. When you compare our place to National Parks or free camps, then we are more expensive. This is driven by the cost of maintaining 7 km of private road through mountainous terrain ($8000-$15000 PA) As to advertised pricing on our website. We charge $16 per adult per night in the main camping area and also in the remote camp sites (which are booked through Hipcamp) The only difference in tariff is Hipcamp charge a one off $3.30 booking fee for each booking. We use Hipcamp to increase the market reach in a time of a massive downturn in travelers due to mortgage stress. Steve

We have just returned after spending 3 nights at this amazing place. We visited Steve and Sharon at their wildness property over 20 years ago and it still holds the same peaceful feeling that it had all those years ago. No crowds only a family camping by the river. We were so lucky to have the place virtually to ourselves. We hiked up onto the Ridge walk and down to the Rockpool and followed the creek bed back to the Clarence river. What spectacular views to be had from the top of the ridge add in clear blue skies and nights filled with stars - we were very blessed. With Steve and Sharon the longtime owners of this remote property, close at hand, friendly advice is literally just around the corner. Log fires are a must at night no need to take firewood. Perfect! We ventured down the river on a canoe on our second day and Steve was so helpful with what to expect. The river has a large waterhole near the accommodation and further downstream gentle rapids if you’re feeling adventurous. Steve mentioned that he takes small groups down the rapids on occasion. That sounds like fun! A fun few days was had along with the feeling of getting back to nature. Thanks Steve and Sharon for your hospitality. Oh and don’t forget to stop at the 3 lookouts on the drive down to their property. We drove back up to the sunset lookout late one afternoon for some drinks and nibbles to watch the sunset. Was beautiful.

On a recent bike packing trip from Coffs to Brisbane, my partner and I had the good fortune to stay a night in one of Sharon and Steve's superb eco tree houses. Our journey was an important aspect of the experience, with a surrounding landscape that offered beauty and a dramatic element particularly on reaching the Lodge driveway. Breathtaking views of the Clarence River below were followed by a memorable descent to our destination. While, only a short stay, we were completely seduced by the charm of this slice of paradise. Every detail of our accommodation had been carefully thought through with creature comforts addressed without compromising the environment. It was clear that with more time, we could have enjoyed the many outdoor activities on offer including kayaking and bush walking. Sharon and Steve proved to be outstanding hosts with a wealth of life experience and knowledge, in addition to being helpful beyond belief. In short, the Wilderness Lodge proved to be the standout moment on our 600 km trip. We will be back!

The lodge is off the beaten track with plenty to do, whilst keeping the footprint of those activities as small as possible. our crew was given the opportunity to plant a tree to offset our trip there, and spent 9 wonderful nights listening to the birds and ducks from their gorgeous tree huts. Basic, but clean, all the important things are there - like a toilet and a hot shower! The rest is provided by nature. We have had an excellent time, and highly recommend CRWL to anyone thinking about visiting

Stayed here after our hiking trip to WA was cancelled due to COVID and so thankful that we did. The Wilderness Lodge is a remote off grid eco getaway. Stunning location with fantastic hosts Sharon and Steve. You can camp, stay in eco tree huts (which I did) or stay in a cabin - accommodation styles for everyone - yet always looking after the environment at the same time. Amazing walks, harder hikes, waterholes for swimming and morning birdlife galore. Loved this place and everything about it.

Hi Sue, Thanks for taking the time to review our place. I must say when your group left, it was like family leaving. I just loved the witty repartee around the evening meal each night and hearing the adventures of the days walk. Look forward to welcoming you , hubby and the camper trailer back here sometime in the future. Steve

Mother’s and sons weekend away we hired two Bell tents on the River and to say is was magical is an understatement. The location is beautiful and definitely off the beaten track. We can’t wait to go back and bring the dads next time. Sharon and Steve were very helpful whilst also making us feel like we had the place all to ourselves.

We chanced upon the wilderness lodge and it was one of our best experiences ever. Such a magical and unique place with sunsets over the river, rapids for playing and advanced set up for the camp kitchen combining old charm with functionality. Steve and Sharon provided exceptional service including taking our kids kayaking and sharing the special history of the place and its many lives.

We loved our stay at the Clarence River Wilderness Lodge. Sharron was a wonderful host. Her recommendations, knowledge of the local area and welcoming personality made us feel really at home for Christmas. We ended up staying an extra night at this beautiful campsite as a result. This is definitely a campsite that is not to be missed.

I spent a few memorable days at Steve and Sharon's place. The scenery is breathtaking and Steve and Sharon are wonderful hosts!
There is great hiking, canoeing, swimming in the river, reading, resting or admiring the starry sky around a campfire.
Steve took me on a long canoe trip one day. After he explained a few important paddling techniques, we tackled some rapids.
From the balcony in the hut you have a wonderful view of the river. In a small photo book in the hut you can learn a lot about the creation of the lodge and the difficulties that Steve and Sharon have overcome over the years. They have created a wonderful place! I can highly recommend a stay at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge.

We went before they had any decent rain, which I think they should have got now in February and March. Just ring them, they are very friendly people only too happy to help.
Yes, a mitsubishi express van can make it in. the road is 2WD in all weather, but you will need to drive slowly and carefully.
