We stayed 4 nights over a long weekend, and so glad I chose this hotel. Its in a quiet location on a pedestrianised street, although we did have a busker outside one evening at bed time. Easy walk to most of the city and stations.

The rooms are stylish and carefully designed, all cool grey and white with natural wood. Loved the chest and magazine rack for bedside tables. We had an ensuite shower which was powerful - minor niggle was that towels didn't dry well as there was no heating in the shower room, this meant we changed towels more than necessary. Oh an lovely toiletries from across the road, Portueus Cale.

Tea and coffee making facilities, but sadly only instant coffee - we always take our own cafetiere! Soft drinks and snacks from the mini bar were free.

Breakfasts were amazing - so much choice, freshly squeezed orange and mounds of fresh fruit. The hot buffet was so so we mainly had hams and smoked salmon, with small pastries.

Overall great value and highly recommend staying here. Will review restaurant separately, also excellent.

If you re looking for a hotel centrally located in the heart of Porto, this is a great choice. The room rates are reasonable and the service was very good with friendly receptionists. There is a stationery-type store next to the reception with all kinds of interesting writing items.

The breakfast buffet was good as well as the eggs cooked to order, and the coffee was the best we had on our entire trip to Porto. You can sit outside, however it was too cool on the August mornings we were there. We had a light lunch there once, and the food was very tasty, too.

The rooms are a bit quirky with their old-fashioned style but certainly large enough to spread out your suitcase on the floor. We had rooms facing the courtyard, meaning no view, but also meaning they were quiet. If you keep your window open you can smell the odors from the kitchen, and the seagulls might wake you in the morning. The bed was comfortable; the pillows were filled with foam, not feathers. There are bathrobes and slippers along with a coffee/tea machine, and the minibar had complimentary water and milk, along with a daily fresh bottle of water, although no other types of beverages. You can occasionally hear the guests in the other rooms, but this wasn’t a problem.

Despite its great location and friendly staff, we just weren’t blown away by the hotel. If you just plan to sleep here, it’s fine, but maybe not somewhere to spend any amount of time in.

We stayed here for two nights whilst on a city break, upon arriving we were warmly welcomed by the reception staff, the glass of port on arrival was a nice touch.

This was a birthday trip, the hotel put sparkling wine and birthday cake in the room without being asked, at no cost to us, not expected but greatly appreciated, thank you....

The rooms are clean and spacious, with excellent amenities, and the public areas of the hotel are also well presented.

The breakfast (which was included) was amazing, a huge variety of foods, all well presented.

The location of this hotel is perfect, within walking distance of all the sights we wanted to visit, we felt perfectly safe at all times of day and night, although I was staying with a friend I think this location would be ideal for lone travellers.

Would highly recommend, and if ever in Porto again this would be my first choice of hotel.

I did enjoy my stay here but I won’t be coming back. The location is good, beds comfy, staff very friendly and helpful, and it’s pretty. However, it’s in a noisy spot with barely soundproofed windows and there’s construction opposite (which thankfully was not active on the weekend). The rooms are small - if you come here, opt for a superior room - and full of annoying design faults. The fan in the bathroom cannot be turned on, light from the bathroom shines through the glass in the door to wake anyone sleeping, and it opens out to almost touch the bed. I didn’t eat here since it was so expensive and the area is full of cafes, bars and restaurants. All in all, a mixed bag for a lot of euros.

We only stayed one night and enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We paid for a bigger suite but found the bathtub/shower in the room a little awkward as water got onto the floor and had to be cleaned up. Otherwise, clean, spacious and great hotel. Complementary port and tart upon arrival and complementary mini bar was definitely great. Location is good too - walking distance to so many places made it a great spot to stay for a super short stay. Was a little hard to find so keep an eye out for the entrance on the inside of the open square.

We had an amazing experience at 1829 Hotel. We stayed there for 3 nights and the service was exceptional. The location is perfect and walking distance to most attractions. The breakfast is plentiful and varied (even for cheeky glass of fizz in the morning). Our room was very quiet and could only hear noise in the morning when people were getting up/ready (normal for a hotel). The mini bar is included and they very kindly offered my husband a birthday cake on his special day. 100% recommend it :)

The AS 1829 Hotel occupies an elegant and historic building overlooking the Largo Sao Domingos right in the heart of Porto. The outside walls are decorated with delicate Azulejo tiles and, as the building used to house a long-standing family-run stationery shop, on the ground floor there is still a selection of writing and art materials for sale and displayed throughout the hotel there are portraits, photographs, and artefacts connected to the building’s past. We stayed on the fourth floor and had a wonderful view over the square and up the Rua Flores. We could even see the towers of the Sé (cathedral) and curve of its rose window above the terracotta rooftops. Our room with its stylish decor was immaculate and the efforts of the cleaning staff and supply of freshly laundered sheets and towels kept it so throughout our stay. At breakfast we could choose from pastries, bread, fresh fruit, yoghurt with nuts and seeds, and, if we wished, deli or cooked savouries, and pancakes or waffles. Hot and chilled drinks (even a glass of fizz) were plentiful. The breakfast room and buffet was beautifully presented and presided over by efficient and smiling waiting staff always on the alert to replenish items or bring cappuccinos. Last but not least, the reception team was welcoming, considerate, attentive and friendly. As many guests stay for a relatively short time, the foyer area often had people arriving or leaving but the front desk was always an oasis of courtesy and calm. We absolutely loved our time as guests of the AS 1829 Hotel - it is truly a special place from which to explore the sensory delights that the city of Porto has to offer.

Very nice hotel in the heart of Porto, the building has real character, very quirky, it still retains a stationary shop by the reception as it used to be an old artist studio which is now the restaurant. Room was quite small but large enough for one, and has a free safe, coffee making facilities and a small fridge. There isn’t a balcony and the view was just the back of the building, there isn’t a great deal of wardrobe safe either. On arrival, they provide a glass of Port and cake and the staff were very helpful. One thing I didn’t like was the price of laundry, they wanted €12 for a pair of jeans! The restaurant attached was very good, lovely food, and you would easily pay a lot more money in most restaurants for the quality of food here. Restaurants and cafes everywhere around you. Would stay here again , but think the room is too small for 2 people

A great location on a busy pedestrianised street, within easy walking distance of the whole town and just a short walk to the river.
We stayed for 4 nights and I loved our corner room looking out over the streets, clean, bright and comfortable with a modern bathroom and period furniture in the dining part. Comfortable bed, a fridge and lighting that takes a few minutes to get your head around from the panel.
There is a busker spot just below (fortunately a better calibre than some of the others) they stop playing at 10pm. We quite enjoyed them and the audience reactions but if this isn’t for you then best choose another hotel.
The staff were brilliant and booked restaurants for us on request and really saved our holiday when our tour operators’ pre-booked taxi failed to turn up to take us back to the airport. They called another company who got us there in time for our flight home.
Breakfast was in a light, airy and relaxed restaurant. My only complaint is that despite there never being many people at breakfast there were always one or two hot dishes that were in need of replenishing.
Lastly the complimentary wine, port and chocolates were a nice touch.

The location is great, very central to the city. A 5 minute walking radius to restaurants and attractions. The room is comfortable with special attention on the small details such as slippers and robes.
Unfortunately, the location is double edge; the sounds of construction and music from buskers will continue well into the evening, despite being off season. Be prepared for that.

I’m guessing they’ll allow luggage storage, because we stored ours there after checkout, but I don’t know about early check in.
