This is the best hotel we have stayed at in Portugal. The staff were so nice and helpful. Nothing too much trouble for them. The position was great, just around the corner from the square with lots of cafes and restaurants. A short walk to the waterfront and river and 5 minutes to the main shopping street. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Porto.

I had a great time here! The rooms are much nicer than I expected based on the price, and the staff is really knowledgeable about the surrounding area. They have a pretty good breakfast too, though the dining room is a little small. Just be careful in the bathrooms, the water pressure was crazy high and the shower flooded a little bit. Other than that, everything was perfect and I would definitely stay again!

Just back from a 3-night stay at the Vera Cruz. The receptionists here are so nice, particularly the lovely Filippa who I was lucky enough to have checking me in and out. The two men that were on the reception (one with her and then a night porter, John I think) were also very helpful. The night porter took time to go through the metro timetable with me so that I was sure of when to take the metro back to the airport to catch my flight. I was given room 201 where I appeared to have had an upgrade as I'd asked for a budget single room. This room seemed a lot larger than that, with two good-sized twin beds and a very spacious bathroom. This gave me excellent value for money with the included breakfast. Breakfast was plentiful, continental and I particularly liked the choices of yoghurts. There is a nice, small terrace where you can see the Torre Clerigos on one end and the Camara Municipal on the Aliados road on the other. Great for sitting out on a warm day but watch out for any seagulls! Note: The hotel rooms do not have safes in them, but reception will store your valuables for you. They are very serious about this and will make sure that you take a paper off them stating exactly what it is you've given them and make sure that you have this on you when you want to get your stuff back. I would say here just to organise yourself and get these back ahead of checking out in case of any time needed to wait and you have to get going. I did this and it helped. The lift in the hotel works very well and reception is 24 hours. Very good, well-stocked mini-bar (and cheap!) Hotel is on the Aliados avenue which is an amazing location. It's right between Trindade metro station and the main roads going down to Sao Bento train station, Torre Clerigos and then Rua das Flores among others which will get you to the river. The Cathedral and the walkway across the Dom Luis 1 bridge are also just beyond the station. It was a dream location really. I'll be back! There is also a brilliant Cervezaria just next to the hotel which is always packed with locals, but open very late too. Hotel does not get any noise from the bars nearby.

Excellent city break, no complaints whatsoever. The receptionists Filipa & Alexandre were extremely helpful. Filipa had a lot of local knowledge & advised us exactly where to go & how to get there. The breakfast was all-inclusive & was more than sufficient for our needs. a terrace led off the room & breakfast can be eaten from here when the weather is much warmer, although when we visited it was sunny every day and we were still able to enjoy meals at outside cafe's in the day-time.
