Hotel situated very close to the river in the heart of Porto and central to shops, restaurants, public transport and sights. Across the river from all the Port houses and close to the lower level of the bridge ( lots of repairs at the moment so this level only accessible on foot. Simply but well furnished, clean and spacious room. Good size shower room with toiletries restocked daily. Very comfortable double bed ( not 2 singles pushed together), great sleep and room very quiet. Breakfast was excellent, plentiful and varied, hot or cold selection. Coffee good, from a machine and staff extremely helpful. Not much in the way of cereals but we survived. A great hotel, would go back.
The hotel’s location is the only good thing about it. It is centric and close to many touristic points. HOWEVER, the hotel itself is nothing special. The rooms are very outdated, old furniture… The SERVICE from the staff (all of them) is extremely poor! People at the front desk are the least proactive in trying to help. They do not give right instructions, do not anticipate the guests needs and do not have a smile on their faces, ever. Due to their lack of instructions, we ended up parking our car at the public garage next door and paid almost 150€ for 2 and half days… so thank you for that! If you have questions about any attractions or the city itself, make yourself a favor and walk to minutes to the Tourist Information point down the street… the information at the hotel is not useful. Breakfast is 20€ and for what is offered, they should charge 10€ at the most! Not worth it at all. Better to go out and eat somewhere else. Next time, we will stay somewhere else. Hopefully the service will be better……
I'm with my family and the only two positive things I can say is the hotel is in a prime location and the lobby area is beautifuly decorated. 1. Arrived raining hard 8 suitcases no help from hotel to get the bags in or to the rooms. When asked they replied will ask a colleague but never happened. 2. Rooms are nothing like what is advertised. Pic uploaded. What I paid for vs what I received. 3. My kids sleep late till 12-13:00. Cleaning lady comes the kids say come in clean they ignore and leave. Kids go to lunch a few hrs come back room still isn't cleaned. I go to front desk to inquire and they say we don't clean after 16:30. I said ok 2 days my kids room wasn't cleaned why no one communicated this to us? Than they say we will give you a tag to put on the door for tomorrow so we know when you are gone....... Ok 2 days why didn't you give me a tag day 1 or simply communicate the rules 🙄 My general feeling is because hotel is in a prime location and always packed they don't care about the lever of service they provide.…
Carris Porto Ribeira. As I read the reviews and looked at pictures, I was wondering if I had made the right decision to book our first stay in this hotel in Porto. I’m glad to say that I was very happy with this choice. We didn’t reserve our stay with breakfast included so I can’t say whether or not I regret that decision. Coming from Lisbon previous to this stay in Porto we did miss the convenience of having breakfast in the hotel. The room was nice with a view of the front street. I love the architecture in Porto and really enjoyed this city actually much more than Lisbon. The location of the hotel is excellent. Right around the corner is the Douro River and the infamous bridge taking you over to the Gaia side. When we took the Model T tour around the city, our guide told us to skip the restaurants that sit on the Porto side next to the river, mostly because its a tourist thing, prices are more, which if you have any sort of travel experience, I think you’ll come to that conclusion the moment you see how things are setup there. We never ate at the restaurants, but if you dont mind paying a little extra for that experience, it looks like it’ll be fun especially when you include the street musicians performing there. As for more about the hotel, again, it was very comfortable. Staff is nice to a certain degree. I can’t say they go out of their way. They seem sort of reserved but in a positive way unlike the previous hotel we stayed at in Lisbon where we were always greeted with a very loud yet warm, “Bom dia!!” It’s a nice feeling to experience a place that welcomes you every time they see you. The only slight moment that was a little off putting was the bartender at Carris who seemed to have a problem with us asking for ice to take to our room. Once he finally figured out we meant no harm in asking for ice and gave us an ice bucket to carry the ice in, we quickly returned the bucket to him for fear that he might think we’d take it home as a souvenir from Porto. 🤣😂 But alas, that was one moment. Porto is such a beautiful city filled with so many great things to see and do. We really enjoyed it and as each day came to an end after our sightseeing and walking around or my many trips to the nearby empanada place called Malvon, it was nice to come back to our room at Carris Porto Ribeira. Shoutout also to Curb burgers for their amazing cheese burgers. Highly recommended to anyone reading this.. 😁 Because of the constant rain, i did have to take advantage of Uber eats more so than I normally would but all in all a very comfortable stay at Carris Porto Ribeira.…
Apparently there had been a leak in the room (not a new one) and the parquet was swollen because of it. A terrible smell reminiscent of mold. Moreover, the view from the window on the next wall was very unattractive. We got to change rooms but it was smaller. The hotel offered mimosas at breakfast but only for those who arrived early. So those who came later got nothing and couldn't get more, poor service. Otherwise, the breakfast was okay, but not great.
We had booked an upgraded room (Charris room). First we were given a room in the reception area with a lot of noise, when we asked to change they showed us a room on the third floor which we accepted, but after that we were transported to a room on the fourth (409) so small that there was barely room for a small bed and a bathroom. I explained to the lady in charge at the reception that this was not what we had paid for, her reply was that this was a Charris room. I said that it cannot be correct and that the information on the website shows something completely different. Her answer then was that the websites are for marketing. I find it hard to believe that the hotel deliberately misleads on its website, but with such an answer it is difficult to understand the lady differently. We stayed in the room and did not let the hotel's poor performance spoil our stay in a beautiful and interesting city. …
Very nice hotel in the heart of the city. It's in an historic building that has been very tastefully renovated with a sleek and modern interior. The rooms and bathrooms are quite spacious. The only downside is that they don't have an onsite restaurant. Normally, that isn't a problem with so many great restaurants within a short walk but the night we arrived it was pouring rain so we had to settle for some mediocre bar snacks for our dinner.
We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon earlier this month, and just loved it. Wish we had stayed longer. It's a cute little hotel with some nice design touches, located just a block away from the main drag along the river - perfect location and a great base for walking around the city. The room was modern, clean, simple and cozy; we didn't have a view but the terrace rooms look lovely (next time!). I think we were on the 2nd floor and you do get a bit of noise at night, but that can only be expected from the central location (it's just part of the experience. If you want silence, don't stay in the heart of the action.) We will definitely stay here again in future, and would highly recommend it! Great find at a great price!
I would not recommend as the room is tiny. The safe never worked..needed a battery. We reported it to fix to no avail. We asked for clean sheets and towels but never got any. We hunted down the cleaner and got towels. Very noisy until midnight Construction outside hotel caused continual banging.
Comfortable and clean, excellent location right near the river. Only complaint was the really terrible flat pillows. The air conditioning only worked with the room key so we did have to wait for it to cool down each time we returned, which is probably not a big deal usually but it was very hot when we were there.
