Apparently there had been a leak in the room (not a new one) and the parquet was swollen because of it. A terrible smell reminiscent of mold. Moreover, the view from the window on the next wall was very unattractive. We got to change rooms but it was smaller. The hotel offered mimosas at breakfast but only for those who arrived early. So those who came later got nothing and couldn't get more, poor service. Otherwise, the breakfast was okay, but not great.
We had booked an upgraded room (Charris room). First we were given a room in the reception area with a lot of noise, when we asked to change they showed us a room on the third floor which we accepted, but after that we were transported to a room on the fourth (409) so small that there was barely room for a small bed and a bathroom. I explained to the lady in charge at the reception that this was not what we had paid for, her reply was that this was a Charris room. I said that it cannot be correct and that the information on the website shows something completely different. Her answer then was that the websites are for marketing. I find it hard to believe that the hotel deliberately misleads on its website, but with such an answer it is difficult to understand the lady differently. We stayed in the room and did not let the hotel's poor performance spoil our stay in a beautiful and interesting city. …
Very nice hotel in the heart of the city. It's in an historic building that has been very tastefully renovated with a sleek and modern interior. The rooms and bathrooms are quite spacious. The only downside is that they don't have an onsite restaurant. Normally, that isn't a problem with so many great restaurants within a short walk but the night we arrived it was pouring rain so we had to settle for some mediocre bar snacks for our dinner.
We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon earlier this month, and just loved it. Wish we had stayed longer. It's a cute little hotel with some nice design touches, located just a block away from the main drag along the river - perfect location and a great base for walking around the city. The room was modern, clean, simple and cozy; we didn't have a view but the terrace rooms look lovely (next time!). I think we were on the 2nd floor and you do get a bit of noise at night, but that can only be expected from the central location (it's just part of the experience. If you want silence, don't stay in the heart of the action.) We will definitely stay here again in future, and would highly recommend it! Great find at a great price!
I would not recommend as the room is tiny. The safe never worked..needed a battery. We reported it to fix to no avail. We asked for clean sheets and towels but never got any. We hunted down the cleaner and got towels. Very noisy until midnight Construction outside hotel caused continual banging.
Comfortable and clean, excellent location right near the river. Only complaint was the really terrible flat pillows. The air conditioning only worked with the room key so we did have to wait for it to cool down each time we returned, which is probably not a big deal usually but it was very hot when we were there.
I chose this hotel for the location and was not disappointed. It was easy to get around and great to be by the river area and attractions. We upgraded our room to a junior suite which I did not really think was worth it, apart from the small lounge area it still seemed quite small and narrow compared to some pictures I saw online. We visited on a very rainy weekend but it did not spoil our stay, thoroughly enjoyed Porto and would stay at this hotel again.
Beautiful historical renovated building, perfect location. We had a suite duplex with stair inside. Double exposition very nice, both on the river and the back hill, but the bathroom without bidet is not acceptable in a 4* hotel suite and the room was really poorly equipped, not a chair to put clothes on, no power outlets close to the bed to charge the mobile phone. Lobby and bar really stylish, suggest to dedicate same attention to improve rooms furnishing and details. The view from the window riverside is really superb! The small pasteis de nata at breakfast delicious!
Stayed here as part of a pre river cruise package on the Douro. It is exceptionally well located and the staff very friendly and helpful without exception. We upgraded to a deluxe review view suite, although the balconies were small (one each side), the views were breathtaking and well worth the relatively small additional cost. Breakfast was very good, we went at peak time, but we’re still seated almost immediately and had a full and excellent range from the buffet. Only disappointment was that the restaurant hasn’t reopened yet, however there is an excellent range of restaurants in walking distance and the staff happy to highlight a few on a local area map for you.
First time to Porto and booked this hotel because it was close to water. Location was perfect, close to palace, bridge, the waterfront, restaurants, and bars. Room was tight for 3 but we didn't stay in room that much. Tricky to get to room as you have to take 2 elevators & ramp. The front desk staff were professional and helpful. We were able to check in early as our room was ready. At check out we were able to leave our bags and explore the city before our late afternoon flight. Coffee and tea available in room. There was a supermarket at corner across street for pastries and snacks. Would highly recommend this place for your stay in Porto.
