PortoBay Hotels & Resorts has acquired the Hotel Teatro, which will now be called PortoBay Hotel Teatro and marks the entry of the hotel group into the city of Porto. It is located in the historic centre of the city, on Rua Sá da Bandeira, a few steps from the city’s main attractions including São Bento Station, Clérigos Tower, Porto Cathedral, Avenida dos Aliados, Lello Bookshop, Bolhão Market and the well-known Cais da Ribeira, the Douro riverfront. The hotel was built on the site of the former Baquet Theatre, opened in 1859. Today, the theatrical theme is very much in evidence with the hotel’s unique, refined and bohemian atmosphere. The 74 spacious rooms, divided into 5 categories, offer a contemporary, individual and comfortable feel. The hotel also has a restaurant, bar, small gym and meeting space. The new group hotel will remain in operation while some adjustments are carried out to bring the product more into line with the PortoBay Hotels & Resorts brand.

The hotel location allowed us to walk to all the sites we visited. The rooms were spacious, but as noted in the other reviews, they were too dark. Also, there is a clear glass wall for the bathroom. The toilet was visible from the front door. There was a lack of privacy when

The checkin at reception is too long and I think they would ignore you if they could. The hotel is all about theatre design and nothing about comfort. You’re supposed to feel like you’re in an opera house after the performance has started. I just felt like I was in a dungeon

Dear Guest, We thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. PortoBay Hotels & Resorts acquired Hotel Teatro by the end of December 2018 and we are still improving in some aspects. As regards the check-in, we would like to inform you that it is a normal procedure to inform our guests during check-in about all the services at the hotel, to give all the information regarding breakfast and show the rooms. We sincerely apologize if this was not the case. Our entire team is extremely committed to delivering the perfect vacation experience for each guest. We are very sorry that we didn´t accomplish this for you. Concerning the lighting, we are now precisely, replacing and adding lights in the corridors and public areas. We’ve made a good note about all your constructive comments. Our Duty Managers and of course myself as General Manager, are always at our guest’s entire disposal for anything they may need or would like to suggest during their stay. Hoping to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in PortoBay Hotel Teatro and regain your trust, we remain at your entire disposal. Kindest regards, Ana Teresa Matos - General Manager

From arrival we were greeted with polite reception staff who upgraded our room. We were surprised by the modern decor and luxurious decor. Breakfast hit the spot with champagne for those who like to indulge. I couldn’t fault the place.

The Teatro a very beautiful hotel but is not Portobay. Portobay is more, it is a feeling, it is the smell, is is like you coming home. in Teatro we didn't have this feeling. The hotel is dark, no specific room for smokers, no place outside the hotel where you can relax with a

Had a BA flight and B &B at this fab hotel. Centrally located near the Sao Bento station. A converted theatre which on arrival seems dark and dreary but it is tastefully done in brown and copper hues. The reception staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful in
