Torel Avantgarde is a five-star boutique hotel in Porto that opened in September 2017, and already won 5 prestigious awards: a World Luxury Hotel Award in 2018, a Prix Villégiature | Awards and a Seven Star Award,a Luxury Travel Guide Awards 20/2021, and Boutique Hotel Award 2021 Like Avantgarde artists, we wanted to create something completely new. Our stay at the Torel Avantgarde was a delight from start to finish. Every member of the team there achieve the highest standards of customer service. This is a wonderful example of how a hotel should be run! The friendly front desk staff booked us into a couple of restaurants and both were excellent - and were exactly as we we had described in our preferences. These were last minute bookings at a busy time of year so posed an even greater challenge to the staff than usual! The choices and quality of food at the breakfast buffet were excellent. Coffee and orange juice (my baseline for quality!) were both 10 out of 10. I would also recommend the eggs florentine which is cooked to order. Refreshingly, breakfast is served until 11am - it's nice to have that option if the night before in Porto's wonderful watering holes went on for longer than expected! We dined in the restaurant on one occasion and once again, found the food to be delicious - and the service first class. We managed to get a table outside where the views are really lovely. Even if you're not dining here, I would recommend enjoying an evening drink outside to gaze down on the city and across the river far below. The guest rooms are individually decorated and provide that essential boutique feeling. They are well laid out and finished to a high standard. Oh - and I'm pleased to report that the shower (another baseline quality benchmark for me!) was great. On the 12th of March we visited Torel Avangard for a surprise birthday retreat for my girlfriend. The experience was 5 star from start to finish of our stay. When we arrived at the hotel reception, we were very welcomed by Diogo who, after our check-in, gave us a tour of the place, full of history and knowledge. We loved the theming of the hotel and we finished the tour in our suite "Mozart", what a place! The hotel staff made our experience exceed our expectations when in the suite, we were greeted with a welcome note and a bottle of sparkling wine accompanied by fruit and truffles. The view we had in the suite was the exlibris of the experience. The room was very comfortable, super clean, with all the tools to provide an unforgettable experience. Before dinner, when we arrived at the bar, we were welcomed with a welcome cocktail. We chose to dine outside the hotel as there was a restaurant that my girlfriend really wanted to try in the city but, the menu of the restaurant in the hotel was very appealing and had a menu full of options. The next morning, we decided to order room service so that the experience would not end so early inside our suite and it was the best decision we could have made. Having a shower followed by breakfast with what is one of the best views northern Portugal has to offer was the cherry on top of the cake. The service at reception and in the bar and restaurant was exceptional. Customer service at its best. The facilities were good and the spa was great. Not sure about the mirrored wardrobe at the end of the bed. I just don't need to see myself first thing!

A 5 Star service received from hotel staff throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly enjoyed a most relaxing and indulgent four days. All the food - from breakfast to dinner was great and we were given always given useful tips and advice by the restaurant staff particularly on the best wines to try. The hotel certainly lives up to its artistic claims and it has successfully created a very laid-back, relaxing atmosphere for its guests.

A stunning boutique hotel, all the staff were fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, organising bookings, explaining the area, helping to sort last min reservations etc. We used the spa which provided a great area to relax after spending the days walking around the city. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on one of our nights and the experience was brilliant. Inventive dishes, beautifully presented, service was flawless and a wonderful selection of wines. The views from the covered terrace both for breakfast and dinner make it a romantic and beautiful place to dine. Porto is a great city, many great restaurants but you need to make reservations, we managed to dine at Cumplice and Chama, both very different dining experiences but with fantastic food, cocktails and wine. I had great time during my stay in this five star hotel. Realy enjoyed it, as there are nice wellness activities and location of the hotel is convenient also. Everyday I walked around the city and back, no taxis or public transportation needed. Staff is very helpful and kind as well. Hope to come back again :)

We stayed 1 night at Torel Avantgarde and we absolutely loved it. The hotel is beautiful, with an amazing view over the Douro River, great Spa and an infinity pool! The bedroom was really inviting, with a huge bathtub to relax, while drinking a glass of champagne, and the bed was really comfortable. We loved their breakfast with lots of different things to choose from and having it while looking at the river and the city of Gaia was a huge plus. The staff was really friendly and always trying to make us feel at home. Definitely an experience we will repeat!
