Casa de Sezim is a few minutes outside of Guimaraes and easily accessible by taxi or GPS. The first view as you wind up the forested driveway is the ancient gateway to the pinkish villa and courtyard built in 1376. Then comes the happy welcome by Guri, the Jack Russell terrier who evidently handles public relations doing it with verve...

This was our second visit. The first being four years ago. It was delightful to find the old world charm and hospitality unchanged. The beautiful manor is from a bygone era but with modern facilities. It is still run by the original family who take great care to provide the highest possible service. The wine from their own vineyards is...

Based on other reviews here, we decided to stay at Casa de Sezim for one night while we were traveling in the Porto area. It sounded interesting to stay at a winery outside of a larger city, but it turned out to be so much more. The pictures on the website do not do justice to what you will find....

Casa de Sezim was a wonderful discovery. A fantastic manor house, not only for its history (over 700 years old always belonging to the same family), the beautiful garden and vineyards, the food on special days when they have a 3 course home-made dinner, the traditional "vinho verde" absolutely the best white wine (free wine tasting included), the views... but...

Historic manor house with same family owned for centuries. Renowned for its historical wall papers and coverings. The good breakfast was served on the sunny balcony and there was a nice pool to relax by in the gardens. Guri the dog was very friendly. Guimaraes is a lovely old town about 15 minutes drive away where there are many restaurants....

We stayed her for 3 nights and the room that we were in had a comfortable canopy bed. The old world charm of this manor house is something to behold. The grounds are quite nice and breakfast delivered to the veranda outside the room is plentiful and tasty.

Run by the same family who have lived here since 1360, Casa de Sezim is at once an hotel and a successful vineyard, producing some fine white wines. The location is superb with lovely gardens and an outdoor swimming pool and the rooms were spacious, clean and cool, The highlight, for us, was breakfast served on the balcony which overlooks...

We stayed for three nights in early September - the hotest days on record in this part of Portugal. And although this historic house has no airconditioning, the climate was perfect, both physically and socially. If you want to imagine what it may have been like to live the life of landed gentry in Portugal, without the worries of harvests...

Proprietor and host José is part of the family that has owned this old manor house since 1376. He is gracious and welcoming. The exterior walls at the entrance could do with a lick of paint, but that is merely cosmetic - the rest was impeccable. Our room was enormous, with a good size, comfortable bed and a living room....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa de Sezim became the ancestral home of the present family in 1376. The original vellum documents still exist and record that Maria Mendes Serrazinha gave Casa de Sezim to Afonso Martins a descendant of D. João de Freitas a companion of D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. The document states that Casa de Sezim was given to Afonso Martins in recognition of " As boas graças que dele recebeu e espera receber e por crença que lhe fez", the good works received from him and hope to receive and for his trusting belief. ... more   less
