This hotel was easily found with its own car park. Great view over the castle and the room was spacious with a balcony. We stayed two nights and used the restaurant the first night, which was pretty special as it was a Michelin star place. Excellent bar and lounge with a huge wood burner which was a very welcome place to sit in January, Nice touch too to have a bottle of port there and we could help ourselves. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Staff generally very good, particularly the bar and restaurant staff. The only reason I have downgraded this hotel down from 5stars is that on leaving the receptionist insisted that I hadn't paid in advance but I thought I had via Booking.com. She then charged me twice for the room but luckily I realised the mistake and got a refund. When I got home I found evidence that I had already paid as I thought. To be honest it wasn't the easiest process to get a refund but finally I did. Some staff training required I think as it did rather take the gloss off our visit.…
spend two beautiful days at the Pousada, enormous room, extraordinary view to the castle, enormous comfortable bed. The service was great. On the last day we had to leave very early, before breakfast time and we had a very nice and cosy breakfast waiting for us.
This lovely hotel is situated on a hillside directly across the Fervenca River valley from the medieval walled ducal capital of Tras os Montes, Portugal. Views of the ancient citadel from the hotel balconies are positively awesome. Braganca is surrounded by hilly olive orchards and vineyards which glow in the radiant sunlight. The hotel staff is quite accommodating, and the hotel restaurant -"G" - is a culinary attraction drawing diners from both sides of the nearby border with Spain.
This is a relatively modern Pousada - not in an old castle or convent - but built in such a way that every room has a view of the Castle of Braganca atop the oopposite hill which is illuminated at night.Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable and well equipped and the public areas are, though a bit confusing to get to sometimes, very nicely laid out. The restaurant has a MIchelon star and is a delight - we were served 4 amuse-bouche etc before we reached the things we had ordered! And the quality of that cooking is reflected in the really excellent breakfast. I have no reason to return to Braganca - the castle is impressive from a distance but not enthralling close up - but would go back any time just to stay and eat here.
We booked a superior room which lived up to its description. Spacious, well furnished and a fantastic view of the garden and town of Braganca. The castle is lit up at night so it was particularly stunning. We explored the fascinating town which was a short walk away(although there was quite a climb to come back). The Castle area had good restaurants and an interesting folk art museum which was well worth seeing. The museum displayed the local costumes worn at parades, very interesting, some of them quite scary. We had planned to eat in town for dinner but it poured with rain so we had a bar snack which was tasty and generous. Breakfast was included and comprehensive. The bar and breakfast rooms also had the panoramic views. A nice touch was the port and sweets in reception for guests to sample. We thought the Pousada was smart, had a good location and was good value for the standard of accomodation…
