Just returned from a weeks stay at this Hotel through Jet2, stayed in Room 403, lovely Hotel, great views, spotlessly clean. The staff are excellent from reception, restaurant, house keeping staff, all are so ready to answer any questions and to offer help in any way. Would highly recommend and will be returning soon. Many thanks to all.
The Hotel was open for business in January and we wanted some winter Sun and to get away from the UK doom & gloom. We booked our trip through Jet2Holidays, private taxi from the airport and arrived at the Ocean Garden hotel, lovely place, staff were very friendly and welcoming, not all the facilities was open at the hotel like the top bar by the swimming pool and the breakfast was ok but could of done with a bit more choice of foods, they ran out of Yogurts 3 days into our holiday and we didn’t get anymore for the rest of the week. There was no Tea or Coffee facilities in our rooms as they don’t seem to do this in Hotels in Madeira! As for the rooms themselves I would give them a 5 star rating, massive bed and very comfortable
We stayed for two weeks in January 2022. The hotel is situated high above Funchal away from the main tourist areas. There is a free mini bus to and from Funchal bookable the night before. I would recommend a room in the new hotel block where the rooms have a view over Funchal. Absolutely amazing views and sunsets . These rooms are fitted out to a high modern standard. The standard rooms have a pleasant sea view but the rooms are just a little dated. We upgraded half way through our holiday and had no regrets. The admin office were very helpful with any problems or questions we had. It’s a fair old walk to the nearest supermarket but if you have a hire car then no problem. The road outside has limited pavement and care needs taking walking especially at night. The Montana restaurant was the only dining facility open when we visited. The staff there were courteous and helpful. The views over Funchal from this restaurant are amazing especially to walk down to at Breakfast. This hotel is in a less touristy area but for us that was not a problem. We did hire a car for some of the holiday and this enabled us to freely sight see around the island. If this sounds like your kind of holiday hotel then I would say to give it a go. …
Wonderful view and nice bed. Pool quiet with better views than the room. Breakfast had plenty of choice and lovely spot to sit.Have already booked for next year so hope to see then. The weather was brilliantas well
Having just spent 5 nights at Ocean Gardens I think it represents really good value for money. There’s a few things that if addressed would have made my stay perfect but I think back to how reasonably priced this place was and I don’t think you can expect perfection. Firstly I’ll mention the beautiful views. From my room and balcony I could see out into the ocean and it’s lovely. Unfortunately this also looks out onto a road which at times was a little noisy. If you’re a light sleeper this may bother you in the morning. From the restaurant and pool areas you can see out into the bay of Funchal. This is an exceptional view. The restaurant was lovely, brilliant setting and good service. The food is well cooked and represents typical food of the area. Though it’s very meat-heavy! There was music playing on a few nights that made me want to pierce my ear drums but that’s personal taste! The room itself was spacious but a little dated. At first I was impressed by the huge bed but it was in fact two singles pushed together not not fixed together. Having two single mattresses meant I really only slept on one for fear of falling down the middle so was a bit disappointing that I spent a week on a single bed tbh. That bathroom is spacious and clean. However I didn’t ever get what I’d consider to be HOT water. Either from the sink, bath or shower. It was warm at best. The room has floorboards and whilst a nice feature it means when someone in walking in the room above or to the side of you, you hear every step! Wifi is patchy at best. Ok in the room but elsewhere in the hotel not so great. Not brilliant because 4G service isn’t perfect in the area either. It rained a few times while I was there and both times that resulted in my balcony being flooded due to there being a slope. The pool area is lovely. Lots of space and loungers. The pics on here don’t do it justice. How’re eve the pool was REALLY cold! Expected for the time of the year and it meant the pool and area were very quiet. Staff are efficient and friendly. The shuttle into Funchal was good but it’s also easy to get into Funchal from the busy stop on front of the hotel at anytime. Reception only give you details for Bus 39 when I’m fact there’s about 4 or 5 buses that can take you on and bring you back. It’s about €2 a trip and they run into the evening. All in all I enjoyed my stay and as above I do this it represents good value for money. But if you’re expecting sleek, modern and perfection you’d maybe want to spend more and look elsewhere.…
We were put into the back rooms, which were dark and smelled of damp. The staff were great in understanding and did what they could. Breakfast was ok, albeit a bit bland, but the views on eating are amazing. I think if you get a good room at this place, the stay will be awesome. Unfortunately, we didn't.
We have just had a week's stay at Ocean gardens and have loved every minute. The staff here are amazing and wil do anything to make your stay more comfortable and easy. Firstly I would like to mention how clean this hotel is. The housekeeping staff do a fantastic job and our room was beautiful every day. Also I want to mention the lovely Marcia in the restaurant for going out her way for my partner to make him his evening meal as he is quite fussy and has quite a limited pallette. The girls on the reception and Louis are so helpful too. The views from our balcony were out of this world too even though it is a bus ride into Funchal I feel it's the best hotel for rest and relaxation and if you did want to go into town there is a free shuttle bus or a local bus also. We will definitely be back and thanks for an amazing holiday xx…
A last minute decision to have a break in Madeira saw us end up at the Ocean Gardens Hotel. The hotel is situated around 2.5 miles from the centre and old town of Funchal. Perched up high on the hillside it offers splendid views of Funchal Bay. We had a sea view room rather than a bay view room but that wasn’t an issue as you could see the bay from the roof top terrace or the restaurant area whenever you desired. The room itself was spacious and spotlessly clean. A decent shower (head fixed slightly too high for our liking) in the bathroom and a nice little balcony, which was great for spotting the boats out to sea. A small mini fridge allowed us room for chilling our bottles of water and juice. The pool area was large enough and we never struggled for a lounger, we were up there reasonably early most days though. Breakfast was plentiful, continental in style but there were sausage, eggs and bacon available too. We discovered warm milk with muesli goes really well as does the really tasty honey for dipping croissants in. On the first night as we arrived late and dined at the attached restaurant. A hearty plate of what seemed to be a local stew was consumed, was perfectly decent in terms of taste and price. The only other food we had was toasties one day for lunch, this was fine with garlic butter (they really, really like garlic on Madeira). There is a bbq in the evenings and the smells coming from it were delicious. The hotel offers half board but we can’t comment on the quality of what’s on offer from that. If you don’t have a car whilst here the bus service is excellent. The no 39 (Montanha to Funchal and Zona Industrial on the way home) stops right at the hotel front door. Buses into town and back are approx hourly with the last bus leaving Funchal at around 2130. The buses all across Funchal are €1.95 per person one way and overall they proved to be a safe and reliable form of transport for us. The odd occasion we required a taxi cost us around €12 from the old town back to hotel. All in all this is a good hotel if you prefer a bit of peace and quiet. We don’t really have too many complaints about our visit. Only real one being the aircon was a bit temperamental. Not enough to spoil our visit. A good week all in all. Nice and relaxing as planned. Not all of the hotel was open (due to Covid) and this is understandable. I’d say it’s more 3 star than 4 star. A solid very good hotel (4/5) clean, Covid safe and good attentive staff. If you choose to come here you won’t be disappointed.…
What is there not to like?! Wonderful service - a special "thank you" to the fantastic Reception staff - Valerie, Luis and Telma - a great team who really care. Our bay view room was out of this world and to wake up to such a delightful sight in the morning and to see Funchal twinkling away at night was a real treat. The housekeeping staff were lovely and efficient and the fluffy towels most luxurious. These rooms are relatively new and have good selection of charging power points (sad but a necessity!) TV, minibar, WIFI, good hairdryer and pool towels available from Reception. There is a courtesy bus to Funchal. The pool and surrounds are beautiful. Breakfasts quite basic but certainly sufficient with friendly staff. I would thoroughly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you all for a wonderful stay and rest!…
We visited Funchal in December 2020 in-between COVID-19 lockdowns. Staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and were incredibly patient and helpful with our many questions, including some anxious times around flight cancellations. Ocean Gardens is located outside the city centre but this wasn't an issue for us at all as the hotel operates a fixed and free shuttle bus into and from the city centre, which is very handy (but must be booked in advance). Otherwise bus connections are also excellent, with a bus stop immediately outside the hotel and staff helpfully supplying you with the timetable. If you are hiring a car there are ample parking spaces and the city centre is only about a 10 minute drive away, and we were given good tips on where to park in town. We tried a lot of the facilities including the pool, sauna, room service and restaurant/bar and were happy with everything. The gardens are maintained beautifully and are a joy to behold. I would say that some of the decor and fittings are a bit faded but this didn't matter really, as our room was spacious, the bed very comfy and the views absolutely stunning. I'm giving Ocean Gardens 5 stars for its excellent service and would like to say a big thank you to all staff for making our stay so memorable and special!…
