Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
p.s.Learned that this hotel was built in 1974, taken back to the concrete 3 years ago when every part of it was renewed. No wonder it seems like a new build
It was a bit wndy for the roof top bar but we went about a hundred yards up the road to a bar with live music every. night. The saxophonist was so good that you would have paid money to hear him in concert and the drinks were a reasonable price.
The hotel staff could not have done more to make the holiday enjoyable and were always on hand to help. The pool is spotlessly clean with good sunbeds although the music from the loud speakers can be a bit tedious if you sit near the speakers.
Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and would certainly go back especially for the locally caught fish and the excellent way they are prepared.
We had a junior suite, a reasonable sized room, very comfortable bed,sofa,tv,safe,fridge/minibar and kettle for tea and coffee.Whilst there wasn't a actual wardrobe, there was a space with plenty of hangers to use.The bathroom had a shower, plenty of hot water plus robe, slippers and a selection of toiletries.
Breakfast was served,in the bottom floor restaurant, there also is a outside area to use. The selection of food, was plentiful and varied, enough to satisfy everyone's taste and with the added bonus of a chef, in the room, who would cook omelettes, etc freshly for you. There was also a good range of juices, tea, coffee and even prosecco,if you fancied it.
The pool area was clean and tidy, it was overlooked by the small gym/spa area, fitted with what looked like modern equipment.
We also thought the location was excellent, plenty of nearby restaurants, and about a 25 minute, into the centre of Funchal.
First class stay, first choice, on my next visit.
Like most of Madeira, the hotel was pretty quiet whilst I was there (I was the only person at the pool two days a running even though the weather was good) but the staff were excellent - friendly and focused.
The breakfast buffet was very good - the disposable gloves system made it feel almost normal in these pandemic times!
Covid measures meant the gym had to be reserved in advance, but this was never a problem, and it was actually really nice having it to myself each morning!
It was nice to have some peace and quiet by the pool and at breakfast without babies and kids running around. However the noise was a little disturbed by dog barking, this particular dog lives in one of the houses in front of the pool wall and the barking did get on our nerves a little. Also the room doors are on a really strong closing mechanism and we seemed to be the only ones who closed the door quietly, we were woken nearly every morning and disturbed at night by doors constantly slamming along the corridor, it was really loud and annoying.
There is a lovely Turkish steam room and sauna, this is free and you can book this for an hour slot, we did this 3 times, which was a nice bonus.
The staff & management were very friendly and attentive. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay - would more than likely stay here again.
We went down for breakfast on the first morning and it was awful. Everything was cold, even the hot drinks were cold. We tried again the next morning with the same result and gave up after that and went out to street cafe's after that.
The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean.
The building is old but has clearly been renovated in a modern minimalist approach. Everything worked well. The sea views are very pleasant and each day we would sit out on the balcony to watch the sunset.
Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of variety, lots of space (so it was safe) and a pleasant setting.
The location is perfect for the Lido. You can easily walk into Funchal downtown. In one direction you walk for maybe 10 minutes and you are at Reid’s, walk 15 minutes in the other direction and you are at a shopping centre. In between are all sorts of restaurants from Mozambique to Madeira and everything in between.
The rooftop bar of the hotel has a spectacular vista. The entire hotel is spotlessly clean.
The highlight would be the staff. Front desk, cleaners, breakfast room and bar staff are all super friendly and helpful.
Your stay will be a pleasure.
The staff were lovely, from reception, who were extremely helpful with any questions we had; to the dining room, where Dilia, Carolina and Marco could not be more friendly and helpful. We will be back as soon as we are allowed.
The location is brilliant, bus stops right outside, and 5 minute walk to the Lido.
Thank you Allegro.
