My husband, myself & our 2 year old grandson travelled to Madeira in October after our holiday to Turkey was cancelled. And we had an amazing time. On arrival in Madeira, we had to take a Covid test as do all people entering the country. This was carried out in a speedy, efficient & professional manner by a team of medical personnel in full PPE. We were then transferred to our hotel, the Porto Mare where we had to remain in our room until test results back. This took approximately 6 hours although it may take slightly longer. I would highly recommend the Porto Mare hotel. It is absolutely beautiful set in lush gardens with stunning views of the Atlantic. The hotel itself was exceptionally clean, hand sanitisers everywhere & all staff wearing facemasks. All staff, from management to cleaning ladies were extremely helpful & friendly. Not once during our stay at the hotel or when out & about in Madeira did we feel at risk. In fact I felt less at risk of contracting Covid in Madeira than I do in the UK. The Madeiran government & public health team are to be highly commended for their handling of the Covid situation. We used to get a text message daily asking how we were. This even continued for a week on our return home. We loved Madeira so much we are booked to return there in December. So can I just send a huge thankyou to airport personnel, the Madeiran government, public health team, all staff at the Porto Mare hotel & to the Madeiran people themselves. You are truly amazing.

Excellent hotel, everything thought out during the covid pandemic, very clean and the rooms have little added extras. Beds and pillows are divine. Staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was amazing. Can’t fault this wonderful hotel and all of the facilities.

We had a lovely double ground floor room with fantastic access to Porto Mares famous gardens. Despite all corona virus fears, we were put at ease immediately we arrived in Madeira. It gave us a feeling of being safe and at ease. More than being back in the UK.

Stayed here for my birthday. Booked a junior suite with sea view. Lots of space for me and my husband. Couldn't fault the facilities in the room. Breakfast was excellent. We both loved the scrambled eggs. We didn't eat here at night as we were b&b so can't comment on that. We did have one or two drinks at happy hour. Very good drinks too and reasonably priced. The hotels grounds are just beautiful. So well maintained and spotless. In fact the whole of the hotel is spotless. Lots of hand sanitizer everywhere. Was sad to leave. This was our first time in madeira but it won't be our last. Absolutely loved it. The food we ate and the porteguese wines that we drank never disappointed. We went on the cable car up to Monte. Not for the faint hearted but the views are stunning. Came down in the toboggans. Went whale watching on a catamaran. Only saw dolphins but it was a nice 3 hours at sea. But the best thing by far was the trike tour that my husband booked for me for my birthday. Wow what a fab day. Brilliant way to see the island. Just want to say thanks to the hotel for the birthday cake that my husband ordered. The cake was so tasty. And also thanks for the bottle of bubbly too.

Dear outofthecountryagain, First of all, we would like to thank you for your preference in Portobay Hotels & Resorts and also for the wonderful feedback! We are very pleased to know that you chose us to spend such a special day, so we sincerely hope that you have enjoyed it to the fullest and toasted to happy moments and also to a brief return to the Island and therefore to our Hotel as well. We are glad to know that the spacious room and the view of the calm sea, as well as the hotels grounds lived up to your expectations. One of our goals is to provide a memorable experience, where you feel safe and relaxed. That said, we are glad to know that we have achieved it. We always say, with Portuguese gastronomy you cannot leave on an empty stomach, since we also warm our hearts with food. From your comment, it seems that you really took the opportunity to explore and were able to see the Island from various perspectives, taking the opportunity to behold breath-taking landscapes. However, we can assure you, it is an Island but it is not that small, which means that there is still plenty to do and explore. That said, we are looking forward to welcoming you back for your second stay! Warm Regards, Cláudia Bettencourt, Guest Relations Team.
