I'm really sorry to let the secret out, but there is every reason why this hotel wins an award every year this century....it is outstanding in all aspects. Clean, comfortable, easy access to Funchal Old Town, very helpful staff, breakfast by the poolside, with just about every combination of food imaginable. If you have any doubts about going to Madeira for a holiday, just visit this hotel and have a wonderful time.

Our fifth visit this time and it’s still so good. The hotel is beautifully kept, the breakfasts brilliant and the staff are so helpful and friendly. It’s like coming home each time we visit. Thanks very much to all the wonderful staff. We will certainly be back again.

Lovely small hotel with a pool in a not very big but pretty garden. Very quiet but close to the old town, the sea, the cable car, buses and streets of restaurants. All within a 5 min walk. The rooms are spotless, the breakfast very good and plentiful and the staff are amazing, so helpful and pleasant.

On previous visits to Funchal, we had stayed at the Pestana Carlton but on our last visit in 2020, it felt that it had gone downhill a bit and Trip Advisor reviews suggested the same. We therefore went for the Albergaria Dias and we’re not disappointed. It is a small friendly family run hotel - the older Senhor Dias was always around with a cheery greeting for everyone. We were introduced to individual members of staff, all of whom seemed perpetually cheerful. Bedrooms and bathrooms are not the most modern but were fine. Breakfast was fine, with fresh fruit salad and hot and cold choices. The hotel is well situated in the Old Town, with an alley way leading to the nearby streets with their multitude of restaurants. There is a small attractive garden with a pool, although no one ventured in during our stay. All in all a relaxing and friendly hotel - we have already booked to go again next year.

When you walk into the reception at the Albergaria you are met with the walls covered with awards they have been given for their quality of service and friendliness. We found that these awards are well deserved. This is a small family run hotel of about 30 rooms that works on a B&B basis. It is situated at the top of the Old Town district of Funchal and is well located for a short walk to the cable car and bus station. If you use the back gate out of the hotel it puts you in the heart of the Old Town area and it’s abundant restaurants. There is a hearty breakfast available in the mornings with a selection of cooked, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, breads, pastries, juices and beverages. Breakfast can be taken inside or on the sunny secluded terrace by the pool. There is also a bar area with a comprehensive selection of beer, wine and spirits available during the afternoons and evenings. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the gardens well kept. These provide a secluded screen around the pool area. The family and all the staff are the nicest friendliest people you could hope to find and they make sure your stay is as comfortable and pleasant as possible. The room we had was a good size, nicely decorated and we had a balcony that overlooked the pool. There was a bath and mixer shower attachment and soap and shampoo provided. The room also has a refrigerator. The only thing for me that was missing was a kettle in the room.

First time to Madeira, at the Albegaria Dias, old town Funchal, staying bed and breakfast. We have never stayed at such a friendly, well run small hotel. The rooms were comfortable, clean, quiet, good bathroom and a lovely view from our balcony. The breakfast was excellent, everything you could want, the fresh fruit bowl was very good. If there was something you want that wasn’t there you only had to ask and it was provided. The pool area was lovely with, colourful with Bougainvillea, other plants and trees. The staff were so nice and made you feel part of the family, would we stay there again? In a heartbeat. Mr Dias senior was always there to wish you good morning. Thank you so much, missing you all.

It’s been a while since I posted a review from anywhere .. but this hotel deserves a special mention. The trip was booked as a celebration for my wife’s birthday at it did not disappoint. The staff here are so friendly and efficient. The hotel is in a perfect location for accessing all that Funchal offers. Would recommend a balcony overlooking the port , so you can watch the coming and goings of the cruise ships on a daily basis. The rooms are extremely comfortable , clean and have everything that you need. My wife was delivered a beautiful bunch of flowers on her birthday by the hotel. The gardens are lovely and very private. Breakfasts are first class and there is a plentiful choice. Why would you want to go anywhere else?

Recently returned from this wonderful, friendly hotel. Beautiful garden and pool area where I ate my breakfast each morning with linen table cloth and napkin, so unexpected from a small hotel. A magical private lane leads through a gate straight into the old town where you will find many restaurants and a short walk to the harbour and central Funchal. Cannot praise it enough.

A complimentary welcome drink was offered upon arrival while paperwork was taken care of. Staff is very friendly and caring. Room clean and even on first floor, no insects. I feel so safe here that I sleep with the balcony doors open instead of blasting the air conditioner. Great breakfast. This little hotel is well located for a single traveler as well as for groups. Back door gate take you to a great variety of restaurants. Cable-car and bus station within 5 min walking. Shops close by. Main shopping street within 10 min walking. (If you want shopping mall I recommend Madeira shopping - bus 8 (Zara, Berskha, iStore)). Most travel companies pick up at front gate. Only one travel company wanted to pick up at the cable station 5 min away. I can highly recommend this hotel.
