This is a special place. Immediately upon arrival you are warmly welcomed and made to feel like a member of the family. All members of the staff starting with the owner Mr. Dias, Sr. are always smiling and sincerely interested in you and how your visit is going. The rooms are clean and spacious and the breakfast is great with homemade jams, fruit juices and of course Mr. Dias’ famous fruit salad. The hotel is conveniently located just a short five minute walk to the cable car station. Luisa and Cecilia are terrific on the front desk and are always helpful and can readily arrange tours and transport to/from the airport. Monica who overseas breakfast in the morning and the bar in the afternoon is wonderful. As with all the staff she is genuinely warm and gracious. If you are considering a visit to Funchal, Madeira PLEASE give staying in this hotel serious consideration. Even though we left just a few days ago we are already thinking about a return visit.

We have recently had a lovely return visit to the Albergaria Dias. We had stayed here some years ago and decided to have a return visit and spent 5 nights in a Superior Room on the 4th Floor (Room 402) which was a large very comfortable room that had a spacious balcony with a table and chairs, two sunbeds and a jacuzzi. The views of the harbour and cruise ships were magnificent. The balcony had the sun most of the day. On arrival we were greeted by Mr Dias and Cecilia who remembered us from our previous visit and gave us a very warm welcome together with a welcome drink. The breakfast was varied and delicious and there were always plenty of free tables both inside and out. This delightful family run hotel is only a few minutes walk from the Old Town where there are an abundance of restaurants to eat at in the evenings, one is literally spoilt for choice. The only problem we found was that we couldn't walk past the restaurants without being hassled by the restaurant staff to come in for a meal! During our stay we visited the Monte Palace Tropical Garden by cable car. The cable car cost 16 Euros return and the entrance to Monte Palace Garden was 12.50 Euros. There was a combined ticket to the Monte Palace Garden and the Jardin Botanical Gardens which was 31 Euros but we decided to visit the Jardin Botanical Gardens on a separate occasion, the bus fare being 1.95 Euros each way and the entrance fee 6 Euros. This made another really pleasant day out as the weather was lovely throughout our stay. We travelled independently flying with British Airways from Gatwick to Funchal and booked our accommodation directly with the hotel. The hotel has a chauffeur who can meet guests from Funchal Airport (28 Euros a single trip per taxi). He waits inside the arrivals hall with your name on a board and swiftly takes you off to the Albergaria Dias which takes around 20 minutes. Likewise he picks you up at whatever time you request for the return flight. Travelling independently can be an easy option. It was a pleasure to return to the Albergaria Dias and hope it won’t be too long before we return again.

We originally came here a few years ago and as we loved the hotel we decided to come back again. Cecilia is amazing! I booked direct with the hotel and she arranged taxi transfers too. Our room was on the 4th floor with spectacular sea views and our own balcony with sunbeds. Mr Dias senior greeted us upon arrival along with his son and were there when we checked out. Breakfast is help yourself buffet with the best homemade fruit salad ever! There was bacon and fried eggs, scrambled and omelettes in alternate days along with meats, cheeses and breads. The banana jam on fresh bread rolls got my vote! If you go out through the back gate you are immediately in the old town with loads of bars and restaurants and only a few minutes walk to the cable car station. The whole hotel is very relaxed and quiet and spotlessly clean. We slept well every night. We will definitely be back!

Have just returned from a holiday in Madeira and decided to find this hotel, which we had stayed in previously, but had been unable to book this year as it did not appear on any of the usual travel companies' websites, from which we deduced it may have closed down. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the hotel was open and the reason it was not on any websites this year was due to the rebuilding work which took place last year and overran. As we walked down the drive to see what the situation was, Mr Dias came out to greet us just like old friends and invited us in to have a drink and explained what had happened. It was a pleasure to see him and his staff. They made us very welcome and when we asked Mr Dias if he still made his fabulous fruit salad, within 5 minutes two large bowls were produced for us - they were just a fabulous as ever. The hotel is now open and looking forward to seeing all its old clients (and new ones), who, like ourselves, had not been able to visit them over the last year. We shall certainly be going back to enjoy this fabulous little hotel and its superb hospitality with Mr Dias and his great staff.

Fantastic small friendly hotel, amazing staff, efficient, friendly, caring, Caterina, Monica, Cecilia & others, as were the owners Mr Dias Juinior & Senior. Brilliant location for the old town, walking distance, lovely relaxing pool area. Great selection of good food at breakfast. It was nice to watch Portugal play in the World Cup, with the owners & staff in the hotel bar. Lovely cocktails, but would be nice to see the female staff do them rather than wait for male to come on duty 🍹🍸 We will certainly be back sometime in the future to this little hidden gem, with its new additional building. Thanks, Susan & Michael Scholes
