The Views Monumental Hotel garners praise for its stellar location, offering easy access to local attractions and superb beaches, complemented by praised bus connections. Cleanliness is a hallmark here, with guests lauding the immaculate rooms and pristine pool, all upheld by an eco-conscious cleaning service. While the amenities receive positive nods for the well-maintained pools and diverse breakfast, the absence of a gym and lukewarm hot items have been noted.
The rooms offer comfort and striking sea views, yet may feel snug with more occupants. The hotel's economic travel options are appreciated, although some services are deemed costly. Guests enjoy the elegant atmosphere with live music, and commend the professional staff, despite some inconsistencies in service delivery.

Detailed Reviews
Holiday for one week during the New Year. Our room was on 10th floor with a balcony with a sea view. This was great. we could watch the fire works from our own balcony, what a show it was. The breakfast at the hotel was really good with lot of choices. On Epiphany the hotel staff performed traditional Portugese songs during breakfast. This was a really nice surprise. Also there were sparkling wine and a traditional cake in the lobby.
Our room was not too big. The bathroom was newly renovated, but the room could use some redecorating. Overall the hotel was a little 70's although clean, which made it feel a bit cold. The reception staff was not very friendly. They never greet you when passing by. But of course they answer if you have questions.
The pool towels are free of charge, if you want a fresh towel, it was 1 €.
We also used the Spa in the hotel and had some massages. The service there was good. Although the whole spa department was very worn out and there was a weird smell in the steam rooms.
Because of the location, I would definitely stay in this hotel again. A lot of restaurants near by, great bus connections and you could even walk to Funchal centre (about 4 km)

Me and my partner visited at the end of may so after we were allowed to start travelling again. The hotel was very quiet when we stayed so not sure what it would be like during peak normal times but we have a very good stay here.
Check in was very simple and easy and the reception was very nice and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We chose a sea view room and were given one on the 10th floor (I did request a high floor room) the views were amazing! Every morning I woke up I had to stand on the balcony for a moment to take it in so although it does cost extra, I would fully recommend a sea view room.
Breakfast was great, there was something for everyone to enjoy. I found the sausages weren’t very nice but that’s just personal preference. It was a self serve breakfast but by the entrance there were disposable gloves which everyone wore which was great.
The hotel seems very big on sustainability and the environment which I loved.
Another thing I liked is on the first night, I put a blanket under my pillow as the pillows were a little flat and the next day after breakfast, one of the cleaners had been in our room to clean it and noticed us waking back so ran over and gave me an extra pillow and said “so you don’t need to use the blanket” although this was just a small thing, I really appreciated it as I hadn’t managed to ask for an extra pillow yet.
The room itself has everything you needed really, the shower wasn’t the best as i found I was too tall for it so to wash my hair, I had to duck down and I am 6ft. The fridge in the room is quite small so only enough to fit a couple of bottles of water but it doesn’t get very cold to be honest and the air-con wasn’t the best either, it worked and cooled the room slightly but I can imagine in peak summer heat, it may not be much help.
The hotel is in a very good location, there are plenty of bars and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk and also just down a hill in front of the hotel is a big supermarket (not the easiest walking up the hill with a few bags of shopping) but there are smaller shops right next to the hotel.
One final part, the pool bar isn’t the cheapest, it was around €7 for a cocktail and €6 for a Spirit and a mixer but the pool area is very nice and providing the sun is out, your guaranteed to get it no matter where you’re sat.
Overall given the current circumstances, I was very impressed with my stay and with my visit. I felt safe and comfortable in the hotel, and would definitely recommend a stay here

We've just returned after 10 nights here and it's one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Check in was easy and when we hot to the room we realised our air con wasn't working. The receptionist came up to see if he could work his magic, but he couldn't. Within minutes a maintenance man was there. In that time a maid appeared with a cheese and fruit board and a bottle of prosecco, as we had mentioned to the travel agent it was our 5th wedding anniversary. A second maintenance man came and told us to go and get dinner and they would fix it. When we returned they had it sorted.
We were given 2 rooms overlooking the sea on the 5th floor. These were perfect rooms as they had larger balconies and a short hop over the railings to a raised sunbathing area.
The bathroom is great, although if you're over 6ft you need to duck under the shower. That's just a tiny thing to put up with though.
Breakfasts were amazing with something for everyone. If you can't get a good breakfast there, then the problem is with you, not the food. There are disposable gloves to use, however the first couple of days they were extra large. Then they got smaller and didn't fit my hands.
The pool is a good size with plenty of sunbeds. The pool bar isn't the cheapest, but the measures of alcohol are extremely generous. Whilst there was no entertainment, they do have a DJ on Friday nights and he was quite good.
The indoor pool is great for when it was overcast. The jacuzzi needs to be booked, however we got in as a family of 4 and it wasn't very powerful at all.
All the staff are amazing. The hotel is in a great location, about a 20 minute walk to the marina, but plenty of bars and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk too.
All in all a brilliant stay in a brilliant hotel. One I'd definitely stay in again.

I stayed here for a week at the end of November 2021. I chose this hotel because it had an indoor pool and spa, in the event that the weather app was correct and it rained every day, however I have to admit that I didn't check out either as I was lucky with the weather!
The room was clean and had a balcony with a table and chairs, which faced a back road, however wasn't noisy at all. I did speak to someone who had a pool/sea view and they did experience noise, but to what level or where from I don't know I'm afraid.
I had a B&B based stay and paid to eat an evening meal there one night after a whole day out on an excursion. I have to say I was impressed with the variety, quality and amount of food at breakfast, even if you fancied a leisurely start to the day. They were also very Covid prepared for a buffet with disposable gloves at every station and hand gels available too. I was less impressed with the dinner at €18.50 per person with drinks on top. It wasn't the price, just that the variety was less, but what I had was quite tasty - just down to personal taste really. I think if you are the kind of person who can put away of lot of food then you'd get your value for money!
I ran out of characters, so will attempt to add the last paragraph in afterwards..

Very happy that we booked this hotel! To our surprise we got a room with sea view which was beautiful! The hotel also has a decent size swimming pool compared to other hotels. Water was a good temperature at the end of September.
We booked half board so breakfast and dinner were included. We are both vegetarians so a little nervous about the vegetarian options. Options varied every day in more/less vegetarian choices but the staff made us a vegetarian pasta every day if we asked for it. Perfect!
The breakfast options are brilliant! I follow an intermitted fasting diet which means I eat my breakfast after the buffet is closed. We asked the staff if we could take our breakfast with us which was no problem as long as we brought our own containers (which we went to buy at the local supermarket). So every morning we filled our containers with some bread, butter, cheese and some mixed fruits to go. Such great service!
Our room was cleaned everyday (spotless!) except for one day which turned out to be a bank holiday. We got a note in our room saying the room would not be cleaned the next day because the hotel wanted to give their personel a day off. We received a free cocktail as compensation. I like hotels that take good care of their people.
Thumbs up for Four Views Monumental. I'd love to come back!

I recently returned from a trip to Madeira where my hotel of choice was the Four Views Monumental hotel.
The reception staff were professional and the check-in was quick and efficient. The rooms are a reasonable size and have a fridge, safe, and tea/coffee making facilities as well as TV and wifi. Be careful of the 'do not disturb' switch in the room which I accidentally clicked and didn't receive a maid service for a week due to it changing a light outside your room from blue to red, this was something I wasn't told about.
The hotel has a decent sized outside pool with a smaller child size pool on a slightly higher level. There are plenty of sun loungers which were sprayed by hotel staff after every customer had used them. There is a good sized bar in the pool area to.
I did manage to briefly visit the spa area where there is an inside pool , jacuzzi, sauna ect with various treatments you can book with a full body massage coming in at 55 euro's.
The area around the hotel is quite touristy with lots of restaurants to choose from . There are several small supermarkets and ATM machines and a bus stop and taxi rank directly across the road from the hotel with a taxi into Funchal costing around 6.50-7 euros and taking less than 10 mins , the bus takes longer but is cheaper.
This is a good all round four star hotel and under the current covid circumstances made for a comfortable stay, English is widely spoken by staff who were generally pleasent, helpful and courteous.

We stayed here for 7 nights as part of a Jet2 package, we got a great price, and for what we paid this was a bargain. The hotel is immaculate, the staff are friendly, helpful, and work really hard. The staff did a great job of keeping everyone as Covid safe as possible, and anyone who forgot to wear their mask at the breakfast buffet was politely but firmly reminded of the rules. Compliance with mask wearing was very high, and sanitiser was available throughout the hotel, we felt quite safe. The public area at reception is a bit tired and would benefit from a refurbishment, and the so called cocktail bar (which we never saw in use) looks very sad,but the rest of the hotel was fine, the pool area and pool itself was immaculate as the decks have great views over the sea, the rooms are spotlessly clean, we had a room to the rear and it was fine. There's plenty of places to eat within a short walk, and for 6 Euros a taxi takes you to the old town which is lovely, its about a 30min walk with one big hill, so on a hot day a taxi is a good idea. Madeira is beautiful, will definitely be back, and would be happy to use this hotel again.

We stayed here last week for one week. The room was great, with a fantastic sea view which we paid a supplement for, well worth it to wake up to that view each day! It is perfectly placed with loads of bars and restaurants nearby, bus stop across the road, sea a five minute walk downhill. I'm afraid I always find a niggle and this one was that plates were not cleared away at breakfast very swiftly. Almost every day we had plates stacked up on our table when we went back to get more food/coffee, and they were still there when we left. Also the food was really cold, not just lukewarm. But there was a great choice of different items, the coffee was OK and the views from the restaurant superb. The hotel was extremely quiet during our stay but we had a wonderful time in Madeira, exploring. When the weather was good, the outdoor pool was great, it's heated so fine to swim in during November. We would definitely go back to Madeira and probably to this hotel. Lots of COVID measures in place.

We had a delightful stay at Monumental. We made a last minute change to our holiday from Greece to Madeira because of the UK traffic light travel system and there are no regrets. Madeira is beautiful and this hotel really added to that. Our room was great; lots of storage space, a full length mirror (which I have hardly ever had in hotels) and a beautiful view of the pool and the sea. The hotel is very clean and we felt very safe! Shoutout to the man cleaning the pool every evening, we watched him while having a drink on the balcony and he did such a thorough job. Breakfast is good. Everything you need including fresh fruit, hot food and a variety of fresh breads and cakes. We were only B&B but it was my birthday while we were there and they were very generous with a complimentary champagne dinner. A very kind gesture! The hotel is in a good location for restaurants and bars and a 20 minute walk (including a big hill) from the marina and centre of Funchal.
All in all a wonderful holiday. I am very much missing the poncha and cheap caiprahinas since I’ve been home.

As previous reviews say Covid restrictions are good now that’s over let’s get to the review. This is in the Lido part of Funchal and has a lot of supermarkets shops restaurants and travel agents just out of the doorway. On seeing the entrance it is surprising what lies behind and above. Lovely pool area always clean and always beds available. We used the upper sun terrace that had a fantastic view of the sea. We were B&B and food was plentiful and tasty and covered all nationalities tastes, even sparkling wine was available. Room kept spotless the full time we were here and view from the stairway out to sea was breath taking each morning. We didn’t stay in hotel on an evening so can’t say if there was entertainment but plenty of restaurants in a very short walking distance.
We walked to the marina and found lovely places there to eat also. We used the travel agents just outside the hotel entrance and booked day trips. They will sort out what you are looking for as each to their own with trips. We booked a dolphin sightseeing directly at the marina and they sorted out transfers by local bus .. the bus stop is opposite. Plenty of supermarkets but if you cross the road and go left and downhill a bigger supermarket is there and prices cheaper and a lot more choice. Pool bar was around 5 euros for a pint of local lager.
Rooms had tea and coffee and a kettle with 2 cups and 2 glasses. Hairdryer was a good one and powerful and shower was really strong.
A totally pleasant experience. Check in is at 2pm and check out at 12 noon and a room to store luggage which is safe. We found the beds comfortable and had 4 pillows and air con was spot on.
This may seem a bit of a long winded review but it’s all the things I looked for before coming and could not find in just one review so hope this helps. Transfer was around 20 mins. The island is beautiful and well worth a visit the weather is temperamental we would feel rain although the sun was so hot .. we would pack up to go in and before we had it had stopped and was glorious again .. very strange so we ended up just sitting it out. For the price of this hotel I could not find a fault. We had originally booked Corfu and changed due to covid and a cancelled flight. I am glad we did as it is not a place I had ever intended to visit but would defiantly return.

Yes there was when we were there. Every evening has a theme - dinner and music.
