Really enjoyed this holiday. The hotel was lovely, quirky and the staff were pleasant. We had a room right at the top with views over the sea and mountains..... really lovely. Breakfast was really basic with limited choice but the hotel was clean and comfortable and the little swimming pool was a bonus even in April.

We booked a 3 night break at this charming old hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful (they kept our luggage on the last day which saved us carting it around all day). The hotel is old, but I think that just adds to the charm; the room was light, airy and spotless. It has a first floor lounge with...

Not five stars but nevertheless a very good old style colonial hotel that overlooks the town with an amazing terrace. Staff are a bit variable in attitude and the breakfast are a bit mundane but room was good, outlook great, 15 mins walk to front, nice swim pool, terrace and location for dropping into town as long as you don't...

We didn't stay at this hotel, just visited to see the hotel where our parents spent their 25th and 35th anniversary, and I just felt the need to compliment the hotel on the lovely welcoming we got. We were so nicely met by the young gentleman in the reception, who told us the story of this lovely hotel, and let...

A lovely room at the top of the hotel with a balcony and a great mountain view. Very central to town and a nice walk down. The walk back up the hill is great for those wanting to exercise a little more but at 5euros a taxi is a cheap alternative. The staff were great, very helpful and pleasant, all...

Historic hotel which as other reviewers have indicated, would benefit from some updating. However good value for money. It felt a little like a back packers hotel, with very basic facilities. The room we had was very dark with low energy bulbs which added to the gloom at nighttime. I found it very difficult to dress for the evening as...

This hotel has much charm. It is neat and clean. Our room was surprisingly small with a balcony. The bathroom was spacious and we had fresh towels and room clean up everyday. Breakfast was included and it was absolutely fine. So overall, things were quite fine...not amazing and not terrible but quite fine and everything we needed. We enjoyed the...

Nice hotel with spectacular views. Just a short walk into the main town, but a steep walk back (get a cab for €5). Make sure you get a sea view room; it is well worth the money. Beds are a bit uncomfortable and the breakfast is nothing to write home about, but the staff are superb.

We stayed for 3 nights during our 2 week holiday to enjoy Funchal. It is in a wonderful location in an old area up a hill but close to walk to many restaurants and the town. Get a room with a sea view. The views are brilliant from the very sad rooftop pool with 6 rubbish sun loungers. View brilliant...

Brilliant location, full of character, excellent staff, more than adequate breakfast. After eating in some wonderful restaurants in town, the walk up the hill to the hotel more than justified the 2nd bottle of wine with dinner. For all the moans about the hill my husband is 73 and I am 62----it was a doddle. Planning to revisit soon.
