Having visited Madeira on a number of occasions for a change of scenery we have begun staying at the various Quintas on the island. This one did not disappoint. Lovely relaxing venue with clean, comfortable rooms and friendly helpful staff. We enjoyed the variety of the breakfast buffet. The set menu in the dining room at night offered a range of dishes throughout the week. We dined in the a la carte restaurant in the Manor House twice and for ambience and quality of service and food it was wonderful. Nice gym and pool area with pool bar offering drinks and food. Courtesy bus runs multiple times a day to and from Funchal - you just give your room details to reception. A very enjoyable stay - would recommend.

Hotel's Favorite
A superbly charming hotel with outstanding service. Beautifully appointed with antiques and artworks throughout. Exceptionally clean with amazing attention to detail. Lovely pool area with amazing views over the city and bay, living up to its Bela Vista title. The hotel restaurant is light and airy, crisp white linen on every table. We were half board and our dinner was always 4 courses of a standard that would easily equal many top London restaurants. The maitre D runs the restaurant beautifully and will be delighted to help you through their impressive wine list. There is a separate a la Carte restaurant in the separate Manor House. Haven't eaten there but other guests say it is stunning. All the staff are welcoming and very helpful. In all my travels I have never experienced such good and consistent service across the whole team. The hotel runs a free shuttle to the town centre. Overall a superb experience and I highly recommend it.

Only 1 resturaunt in walking distance and no bars in walking distance. No entertainment in hotel. For nightlife, you have to go downtown. Approx €10 down and same coming back. Last courtesy bus from hotel down leaves at 6pm. This island is not suitable for people with walking difficulties. If booking a holiday here, try to get a hotel within 500 metres of town centre.

A quiet relaxing haven away from the centre of Funchal with wonderful views overlooking the city from the pool bar area. All the staff were consistently polite and friendly. We loved our four course evening meals in the main restaurant, included in our half board stay - a different set menu every evening during our week. There was an even better a la carte menu in the beautiful old manor house on site which we didn't try. Breakfast included a wide selection of food and fresh juices. The free weekday shuttle bus service into and from town ran about five times during the day otherwise a taxi costs €9 - €10.

I visited here in August 2021 but I couldn't back date my review that far back. This was my first solo holiday and i picked the perfect place to stay. I was full board and, although most of the other guests weren't, they were definitely missing out on some of the best food and vest service I have ever had. Every evening was a 5 course meal and my every need was taken care of. The guests were predominately older couples and they all made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this lovely, quaint little hotel that feels like it has been stuck on time, reminding me (in a good way) of a seaside resort hotel in the uk.

I am always amazed how these hotels are getting their stars 🤔 hotel defo not worth 5starts. For me more like 4… gardens are nice, rooms especially bathrooms need to be updated. It is quiet, but you can hear any little bang in your room from room beside you.. breakfast was ok, they have on offer only scrambled eggs, but you can ask for omelet … staff was nice and friendly. Location wise not so good a bit far from centre. Overall not bad..

The staff could not do enough for us. Polite attentive and professional at all times. They were flexible and accommodating. The hotel was very clean and well prpresented with history in abundance, if that's your bag. It is away from the main tourist area which means it is quiet. A free bus operates on weekdays to the centre of Funchal, public transport is nearby - the number 8 bus for a couple of Euro and taxis are 10 Euro.

High up enough to catch the evening breezes whilst looking out over the sea. Convenient, frequent and free shuttle bus into town. Super pool, tennis court and gym. Interesting, extensive and well maintained gardens with many rare botanical species. Staff friendly, helpful and competent. Superb breakfast offering. Set course dinner menu not particularly exciting on the few occasions we ate in the evening. The bar by the pool serves a simpler menu. We had one of four suites in the 19th century original quinta which has antique furniture, tapestries etc. Any of the residents could use the library or sitting room but we never saw a soul! Two very large comfortable rooms with a large bathroom. Good bed and linen, robes etc. Windows have the original shutters which keep out all the light for a good night's sleep. I read a previous review recommending you take your own hairdryer and thought it was a bit nitpicking. I take it all back - it is the daftest thing ever.! A hose with a small nozzle on the end ; as you try to direct the airflow - which is pretty trying, your hand gets too hot. Anyway, that's me nitpicking.

A wonderful hotel to stay on the hills of Funchal. The food was fantastic, along with the hotel and staff could not do enough for you. Beautiful gardens for a stroll. The hotel has a wonderful view of Funchal, and it must be fantastic to stay at New Year with the fireworks going off. My room was wonderful with a balcony. I wanted to take the bed home.

We stayed here for a week in June and were delighted with our choice. Our room was comfortable and well-furnished, with a small balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. The hotel is situated away from the centre of Funchal and also away from the main hotel district. Funchal is at a walkable distance, but the steepness of the roads and lack of pavements means a bus or taxi is preferable. The food was first class. An extensive buffet breakfast greeted us each morning, and on half board terms we enjoyed a four-course dinner each night, with no dish repeated during our week's stay. The staff were friendly and polite, most of them spoke excellent English, and the dining room staff were all very smartly dressed in starched whited coats. The main bar is located close to the swimming pool, and the terrace next to the pool gives wonderful views across Funchal to the harbour and the Atlantic beyond. There is also small gym near the pool, and a tennis court elsewhere in the grounds. There is an atmosphere of traditional elegance about the hotel that makes it most appealing, and we can't recommend it highly enough.
