It's hard to give an accurate review of a hotel in these Covid-19 times. We stayed for a week, only leaving yesterday and unfortunately, the hotel was 90% empty with only 8 or 9 rooms occupied. Usually we were the only people in for breakfasts or around the pool or in the bar. So, at times, it felt a bit soulless, which was a shame. The staff couldn't do enough for you as they were really looking for thing to do! We were only bed and breakfast and there was ample choice available for anything you would like. Even sparkling wine if you could face it in the morning. I highly recommend upgrading to a room with a balcony, as the view overlooking the pool area and down to Funchal is stunning. There is a nice bar area next to the pool where you can get lunch. We did this a couple of times and the quality was excellent. By the way, if you are a keen swimmer, I hope you don't mind a cold pool...it was freezing! The room was a good size, with that lovely balcony, but overall, could do with upgrading. The bathroom was certainly dated. But this is a minor point to be honest. The grounds are stunning and well maintained. Its like being in a forest! Overall, if you like being in a an all singing, all dancing modern resort, you will hate it. If you like a bit of 'old school' ambiance, service and decor, you will love it. One point to note...its really too far to walk in to town each night if you are bed and breakfast. We got an uber each way at a cost of about 7 Euro. A regular taxi is a little more I think. There is a cheaper shuttle provided by the hotel but the last one down to town is around 6pm I think. We are due to come back to Madeira in 3 weeks and I suspect we will be staying right here as we really enjoyed out stay.

I can only add my own experience of this lovely hotel to the glowing reviews it has already received. Despite the Covid restrictions we were treated as honoured guests, receiving excellent service at all times. The staff were, without exception, friendly and efficient, making sure our holiday was the best it could be. Our room was spacious, well maintained and spotlessly clean with fresh flowers which lasted for the whole week. The dining room easily accommodated everyone with ample social distancing and every detail had been thought of to make each meal special. We had opted for half board and each meal was a delight - the delicious food coupled with the friendly and attentive staff confirmed that we had made the right decision. The hotel is in a quiet location with a five minute walk to the bus stop into Funchal town. The delightful swimming pool was a restful place to relax and the poolside bar provided more excellent food. This hotel obviously has high standards and prides itself on it's excellent service, with seemingly no compromise to that service despite the difficulties thrown up by Covid.

Only 2 of us in this wonderful hotel but that didn’t matter we were treated like lords nothing too much trouble. All the staff are fantastic, food and cleanliness A1. We had to stay in our room until our covid test back but our meal was brought to our room. The pool and pool bar were always attentive our lunch was quickly fetched and served so well. I am pleased that the quarantine for Portugal is dropped although we have to still quarantine as did not came back until Monday. Please visit this hotel it’s a gem. We will pay another visit as our holiday was perfect. Our heartfelt thanks to all and we hope it’s picks up for you now the quarantine is over. Look after Blackie as I couldn’t bring her home 🤪🤪🤪🤪👋👋👋👋👋👋👋

This hotel is in the west of Funchal, so unless you are fit, you will take the taxi service or the hotel courtesy buses. It has beautiful extensive gardens, and a pool overlooking the city. Impressive dark antique quality furniture are placed throughout, which adds to the sense of class that the hotel exudes. We looked at many other options and for value, and quality, this is an excellent option. Well worth spending a little more to get the space and tranquility. The staff are multilingual and charmingly helpful. It is the small details that stand out. A definite recommendation. It is Mostly an older crowd 60ish that stay here. But that is true of Madeira in general. They were people who enjoy good things in life. And this hotel is one of those good things.

This is a delightful hotel which has alrfeady had a string of very good reviews. They are all genuine as I and my wife have just returned after seven days. The weather last week was very good - about 25 to 27 degrees. Other reviews have covered most aspects - the rooms are well furnished, the beds massive, the en suite slightly jaded but very functional, the staff are excellent throughout and the grounds and pool are well maintained. The hotel maybe slightly further out than some may like but on the other hand it is well serviced by buses on the main road (five minutes away) at a cost of 2 euros to the centre of Funchal. We used them all the time. In addition there is a giant supermarket about seven minutes walk away agaib on the main road. We could not fault this hotel and, as has already been said, if on half board (which we wiould recommend) the five course evening meal is without fault. We will return next year and if you have not tried it already you should!
