Nestled within walking distance of Funchal center and the Lido area, Enotel Magnólia garners acclaim for its clean, comfortable, and modern rooms, set against a backdrop of a welcoming atmosphere. While situated on a bustling road, the hotel's location remains a highlight for guests. The staff's outstanding service and the hotel's overall cleanliness receive consistent praise, though the bar's vibe and the pool's offerings have room for improvement. Despite critiques on noise and pricier beverages, many find the hotel to be a good value, especially given its amenities and the quality of food provided.

Stayed here over Christmas/New Year. The hotel is in an ideal location in relation to the centre of Funchal, easy walk down past the new Savoy palace takes 15-20 minutes. a bit longer coming back up the hill! but you can take a detour through the park which breaks this up. If you don't fancy the walk taxis are relatively cheap around €6 from opposite the Ritz.
The atmosphere at the hotel is very laid back, we were made to feel at home right away by the staff. Who were a credit to the hotel.
We really enjoyed the two gala meals that we attended for Christmas eve and New years eve the food was good and the service exceptional. The roof at the hotel is a great place to watch the new years fireworks.
On the nights we stayed in at the hotel we found the bar prices quite reasonable
All the staff here were friendly especially the two barman who provided a cabaret most nights
We enjoyed our stay here and intend to return

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks as part of a package, and were very pleased with the whole setup. Staff right from first arriving, were welcoming, pleasant and informative. They showed a caring attitude to their guests and and made us feel at home. The beauty of this hotel is that it is a small establishment with an intimate feel about it. The furnishings were smart and warm. The room with a sea view on the third floor we had was a good size, adequately and comfortably furnished, and always immaculately maintained daily by the house keepers. The pool facilities were superb, with an outdoor pool, a little chilly for me this time of year, but then I am a wimp when it comes to 19 deg temps, but the semi indoor pool with Jacuzzi jets and 31 degs won hands down.
The breakfast buffet has so much choice, more than enough to suit most peoples taste and choice from wonderful fresh fruit, to porridge and cereals, eggs whichever way you want including omelettes cooked while you wait with whatever you want, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and more, wide choice of breads and jams, I could go on, needless to say we were very satisfied, and again the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and efficient at restocking the food regularly and keeping the place running for the change in guests.
The Spa facility was excellent with a very friendly and helpful crew for all sorts of treatments, sauna, steam room and gym also available and always spotlessly clean when we used them.

Firstly WOW this hotel is amazing. We were greeted at reception with friendly informative staff who allocated us the perfect room on the 6th floor with fantastic views. It was also extremely handy for using the rooftop terrace. We had requested a room with a balcony and also tea/coffee facilities as we were spending 3 weeks here. Although no coffee when we arrived, after a quick check at reception this was quickly put into our room. The bathroom was spacious with bath robes, soap, shower gels and shower cap provided. The room had a safe which was provided free of charge and had USB charge points next to theTV. There were adequate English speaking channels.

We spent some time at the hotel swimming pools when the weather was sunny and enjoyed a quick dip in the outdoor pool and then into the indoor pool which was lovely and warm. Although this is an indoor pool, to the front is completely open so doesn't feel enclosed.

The hotel is constantly being cleaned and the staff do a brilliant job making us feel extremely safe.

We opted to go All Inclusive with the view to eating out at night on a number of occasions. However we didn't feel the need to do this as we enjoyed the food so much that we actually ate out on only one occasion. There was a cooking station that prepared meat and fish dish fresh to order every evening and there was always a wonderful choice on tlhe buffet. At breakfast you could order fresh omlettes at the station and again a great choice of both continental and cooked items.

Saving the best for last!! The staff at the hotel are amazing and a great asset to the hotel. They have a great rapor and we felt that they'd become our friends in the time that we were there. All our requests to watch Scottish football and rugby on the tvs at the bar area were met. I did try to keep husband under control. Haha We'd love to thank in particular, (the A team) Johny, Andre, Hugo, Nuno, Susanna, tall Johanna, Raquel, Marcio (and all the chefs) and the queen of them all, Cristina (the boss) who was delightful.

We will definitely try our best to revisit and see all our friends. We had an amazing time.

This hotel is definitely one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The staff are friendly and efficient and there are cleaners always cleaning some part of the hotel, washing walls, garden pots, windows infact everything. The room was absolutely brilliant with a first class bathroom with a lovely, walk in shower. Clean towels and bottles of water were brought every morning and the maids came again in the evening to see if you required clean towels and water. There was a really large balcony with chairs and loungers and a brilliant view of a pool and sea. Breakfast consisted of a great range of various foods, both hot and cold. The snack bar had an adequate range of foods and drinks and the staff here were brilliant, so friendly. The pool areas were clean with lots of loungers and towels that you could change as often as you wanted. There were various activities happening throughout the day ranging from Pilates to Sangria tasting and entertainment every evening. This was definitely a first class hotel with everything you could ever want. I am looking forward to coming back again.

We had been to this hotel on two previous occasions and found it was a nice hotel and good value for money. When we booked for this year we read that the hotel had changed its name and had changed from an adult’s only hotel to a family hotel. When we arrived at the hotel the reception looked the same but the rooms had changes the furniture had no draws and the wardrobe had no doors a bit basic. The restaurant seemed to serve the same basic food each day there was no themed nights so no pizza. The bar on the ground floor looked the same but the prices had gone up for a medium beer it was now 4 Euros and a glass of Madeira was 8 Euros. As a bottle cost 10 Euros from a local shop we did not use the bar but bought drinks outside. Other customers were brining in their own drinks so the bar was not making many sales. Also you used to be able to buy pizza and sandwiches from the bar that had finished as the hotel was providing full board if you had paid the extra. On previous visits the hotel was adults only but now they have families staying so you have children running around making a lot of noise. In the pools there are signs on the walls clearly stating NO Inflatable's in the pools. But of course young children will bring in their inflatable so if you were looking for a quiet soak in the pool hard luck children running Riot. On previous visits the guest were made up of Brits, Germans, Dutch, French etc. and were composed of small groups of about 2 – 10 people and everyone got along fine. On our first Saturday there we were sitting down to breakfast when we saw a coach pull up out side (a coach with about 50 people on board) they all came into the hotel for breakfast it was really busy and very loud. These people were from Portugal they were all one group so they took over the pool breakfast was awful as they all turned up at the same time. They were in the hotel for four days. I don’t know who the manager is now but the hotel is not as good as it was.

We wanted a totally chill out holiday and that was what we got at this hotel. We went for the half board option but as there are plenty of nice restaurants close by we would probably opt for the B&B option next time. On Valentines day there was chocolates left in your room and a card wishing you happy valentines day and the hotel had red roses throughout and the tables for the evening meal were all decorated which was a great touch. The staff were extremely helpful especially the bar staff. Would definitely visit again as it was the perfect location for us.

We enjoyed a wonderful week at this hotel, spotlessly clean and as other reviewers have said all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
We had a garden view room without a balcony and had the most amazing view of the hills behind Funchal and the Magnolia Gardens park. The windows opened wide so didn’t miss a balcony and very quiet as away from the road. Bathroom lovely and spacious. Bathrobes provided and safe was free.
The indoor pool is lovely and warm with jacuzzi buttons. It feels outdoors as one walk is open.
The gym was handy with a few key bits of equipment
We didn’t realise but you can book trips through reception and they were as reasonable as those in the local shops. We’d pre booked levada walks before we arrived or would have done that
I’m a picky eater but enjoyed the food, always a vegetarian or fish dish to choose from and a wide range of salad dishes.
Breakfast was good especially the omelette station and the banana and oat pancakes and of course the Portuguese pastries especially the tarts!
We loved the location as so close to Funchal centre, only 15 minute walk. We’ve previously stayed in the lido area and much preferred this location.
There is a roof top terrace that is great for when the sun leaves the pool area. This is accessed via the lifts near the spa/restaurant
What a shame we had to leave

It is apparently a 4 star hotel, but only just! While the public areas were fine, the rooms, corridors and restaurant were very tired and looked the worse for ware. And in this day and age, internet should be fast and reliable, which this wasn’t. But it was only about $147 AUD a night, so it was value for money. We did have one of the best rooms in the place – a large corner room on the 4th floor with balcony and views of the sea down below. Being in a corner room also meant a lovely cross breeze with sliding balcony doors open on both sides. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space. Good heat and water pressure in the shower, it was just a little dark as there was no light in the over bath shower whose curtain blocked out the light from the bathroom. The room also had a little bar fridge for our wine and snacks from the corner store, so we were sorted there.

We also found that the majority of the staff, both in reception and in the breakfast room, were not particularly friendly. Admittedly, at busy times at breakfast it can be difficult to keep up with clearing plates and refreshing food on the buffet, but when staff are standing around chatting and not focused on customer service, it is not good for business.

The location of the hotel was good for walking to a lot of restaurants and for shopping. I have given a 'very good' rating for the value for money.

Firstly I need to praise the staff at this hotel. They honestly couldn’t do enough for you, and if I could name them all I would, but big shout out to Andre and Jo in the bar, so polite, helpful and well mannered, a credit to themselves and the hotel.
The hotel itself was very clean, well maintained, with lots of unique features. The rooms were cleaned daily, with cans of pop added to our fridge every day. Fresh towels and dressing gowns (for use by the pool), were also provided.
Breakfast and Dinner was served in the main restaurant and there was always something to eat even if you are a bit picky, nice food. Lunch was served in the bar area, and usually a choice of a meat or fish dish, but there was also a selection of salad, and bread available as well as warm food later in the afternoon (ie a small snack bar).
The drinks for all inclusive were also some of the best I’ve ever had, with lots of branded spirits available.
2 pools, one outside and one inside (outside but under cover) we’re available, and even if you found the outside one a bit chilly (it was October), the other one was a lovely 33 degrees. Minimal entertainment on the night with usually a singer or some dancers but it was OK. Plenty of sun beds, and outside seating area meant we always had somewhere to sit, and even if a bit warm outside, loads of seats available in doors. The is also a Spa in this hotel and I had 2 lovely massages, with a range of beauty treatments available. There is also a small gym.

This is definitely a hotel for couples, and to be fair a lot of older couples to stay here. Because this is a beautiful island, a lot of the guests were going offsite for most of the day on trips around the island and whilst this review is about the hotel, I would like to say Madeira is one of the nicest and cleanest places I’ve ever visited.

Would 100% recommend this hotel, and hope to visit again soon.

Visited Madeira, Funchal for the first time with my girlfriend with the intention to propose to her. We stayed for 7 days in total and had an absolutely amazing time. I had previously contacted the Hotel to enquire about being able to propose in the Hotel and they were more than happy to accommodate and help out where possible.

We stayed in room 518 which was on the 5th floor with a stunning sea view and view of the mountains. It was a large room with a large double bed and tv with YouTube and a wide range of tv channels. A fridge was also in the room which can be filled at your request.

The Hotel really went above and beyond and decorated the room with some candles and rose petals and also included a bottle of champagne on ice with glasses. Even had the pleasure of the staff member helping out with the recording of the successful proposal!

Breakfast, which we had included was served between 07:30 and 10:30 which was buffet style and also had the option of having omelettes made fresh for yourself. Huge range of food and drinks available. We didn’t have the dinner there as we ate out most times but from what I saw, the restaurant always had people in there during the dinner service.

There is a large outdoor pool and indoor heated pool which is open from 07:30 to 21:00. It would be nice if this was open till a little later but can’t really complain.

Our room was cleaned every day and left in immaculate condition with towels replaced daily.

The bar staff were absolutely great and allow you to pay in either cash or put it on the room which can be paid at any time. Very friendly and offer a wide range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and soft drinks.

The reception staff were so friendly and recommend us some activities that we should go and experience. It was even one of the staff that came up with the plan of how to make the proposal go as smooth as possible! Really helpful and kind and always spoke with a smile on their face. All of the staff in general are extremely helpful and friendly.

Hotel is in a good location with restaurants near by as well as local supermarkets where you can also buy a few snacks and drinks.

The Hotel in general is very clean and spacious and very cool with the air conditioning.

I can’t recommend this Hotel enough and I would certainly be visiting again in the very near future!

You need a sea view room. The hotel faces a southerly direction so if you have a room facing the sea, the sun comes up from the left (east) & crosses westwards. Rooms facing inland get no sun at all.
