I'm not a big lover of people who review a hotel while still on holiday but to be very honest, I was close to doing it with the Casa Branca! It is probably the most relaxing hotel we have ever stayed at, set in beautiful gardens which makes it so tranquil. We stayed in premium room 305 and wanted for nothing (one of the best rain showers we have used). The staff are excellent and so pleasant, from reception to grounds team. The food and wine is of decidedly high quality, we ate at the Manor House on our last night with wine pairing and it was unforgetable. Only a 20 min walk to Funchal but there are some very nice restaurants much closer by. All in all we are so pleased we chose the Casa Branca and would strongly recommend it. We shall certainly return. BIG thank you to all.

Hotel's Favorite
We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 night stay in this hotel. Gardens are at least as good as the pictures on hotel website and suggest and the remaining part of the former banana plantation gives it an exotic feel. Great to have the choice of 2 pools, with plenty of loungers, and I loved the architectural contrasts between the old house and modern parts. Buffet breakfasts are fab with lots of choice (especially the fruit and cakes) in a really special garden setting. Staff were friendly and helpful and my daughter was treated to a bottle of bubbly flowers and lovely cake on her birthday: a lovely touch. Location of the hotel is great as within walking distance of the both old town (around 30 minutes) in one direction and the Lido pools and beach in the other. Also, there is a huge choice of restaurants within around 10 minutes walk of the hotel. Decent sized hotel gym was good to have and we used it most days. Reasonable variety of cardio machines and free weights although equipment is fairly basic and the gym could do with better/ cooler air con. We (family of 4 , all adults) stayed in 2 different room types due to availability. Premier 1st floor room: spacious, large balcony, great view over gardens and privacy. Gets sun in afternoon. Daily soft drinks included. Ground floor garden room is smaller, brighter and has direct access to garden from terrace. Gets sun in morning.

We’ve just had a 5 day holiday at this excellent hotel. We were in room 129 a garden room. The room was spacious and comfortable. Quality bed linen, comfy pillows. Plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe. A desk, table and chairs. 2 sun beds just outside on the terrace. TV , safe, tea and coffee making facilities, although a coffee machine would have been preferable. The air-conditioning worked well and the room was quiet. The bathroom wasn’t fully equipped, decent shower in the bath, nice towels and robes, my partner said the hairdryer was rubbish though. It’s slightly dated but was perfectly adequate. The buildings are superb, I loved the architecture, the modern blocks that are built pretty unobtrusively and blend into the grounds. The Manor House is beautiful as are the gardens. It was like staying in a botanical garden. The trees and shrubs are labelled. The gardeners do a great job of maintaining them. There are 2 swimming pools, one is tiny, more of a plunge pool and is adult only. There is also a main pool in a lovely courtyard which was great for swimming. There are plenty of very comfortable sun loungers. Breakfast was served in the breakfast room as well as outside on the terrace. There was a very good selection of buffet items and you could also order a full cooked breakfast, omelettes etc. the coffee was brought to you by the waiting staff and was very good. The staff were all very pleasant and professional and are a credit to the hotel. We enjoyed pre dinner cocktails in the bar at happy hour 6-7pm. We didn’t eat at the hotel other than breakfast so can’t comment on the restaurant s, but thee are lots of very good restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. We particularly enjoyed Cris’s place and Franco’s corner. This was our first visit to Funchal and we will certainly be returning. I would be happy to return to this hotel. I would recommend it, particularly if you are looking for something quiet and low key.

We were due to stay here in April 2020 but, for obvious reasons, we couldn’t. So, when deciding where to go this year, we thought we would stick to our original plan to stay at Quinta Da Casa Branca and we’re so glad that we did. From the moment that we arrived, the service was excellent both at reception and at breakfast. We didn’t eat in the restaurant so can’t comment on that. We ate out every night and can thoroughly recommend Chris’s Place and Franco’s Corner, which are only about a 5 minute walk away. The gardens are superb. We were a little disappointed not to get to get to the Madeira Botanical Gardens due to a problem with the cable car, but the hotel’s own gardens made up for it. We stayed in a premium room with balcony, which was very spacious, well furnished and had a comfortable, large bed. Having free soft drinks was great after a day out exploring. We will probably return to Madeira and will almost certainly stay at Quinta Da Casa Branca as we have been well and truly spoilt.

This is such a wonderful location - a beautiful garden, very friendly and helpful staff, and we had lovely room. Two highlights: the dinner and watering the banana plants. It's also easy to reach the old town and other attractions. There are also plenty of restaurants in walking distance. We would be delighted to come back.

What hasn’t been said about this hotel that can be added too??? Sub-tropical gardens, wonderful staff, clean, comfortable accommodation and food that is worthy of an array of awards. We rarely return to the same hotel even the nice ones because usually it’s not the same the second time around because it’s no longer a new discovery and a new place. However for this hotel we will gladly make an exception and plan on a third visit next year……enough said!

First ever visit to Madeira for a holiday booked 30 months earlier and re-scheduled a few times along the way. Finally made it with such a warm reception at check in who knew how long this holiday had been waited for. A beautiful hotel in every regard, service, rooms, cleanliness all topnotch but it’s the gardens that really made this so perfect. Walking to breakfast each morning through all the exotic planting was a lovely start to the day. Mostly went for the buffet breakfast, all very tasty. If you are a swimmer the larger pool is for you, nice and cool and long enough to do some actual swimming. Never busy either. Pool side refreshments available by ringing a bell. Premium bedroom in the modern block was very classic in style with direct access to the gardens as well. Loved the library in this block as well , would have spent more time in there if weather hadn’t been so good. Walked in the Funchal three times whilst there with very reasonable €7 taxi back as it’s quite an uphill hike. Evening meals at nearby local restaurants (Tip - book Chris’s Place and Franco’s Corner before you get to Madeira to be on the safe side) In summary - loved everything about this hotel and recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful and beautiful location nit far from downtown Funchal. Thank-you to all the amazing staff.

This is our 5th stay at the hotel and missing out last year we were excited to be returning for a relaxing two weeks . Unfortunately with deep regret we have to say that this hotel has let its standards slip and we cannot view this as a 5 star hotel . Unless you hadn’t visited prior to covid you would not realise the changes and I’m sure you wouldn’t have picked up any of the changes and still view this hotel as a 5 star . Breakfast Buffett is no where near as good as previous years . The selection is limited , poor jams , poor and cold croissants , terribly bitter coffee, reduced size of fresh baked breakfast to name a few . On two occasions we didn’t have fresh towels in our room and I know the hotel will say we should have rang reception but we shouldn’t have too . The happy hour on an evening was previously but one get one free however this has beenreduced to a 25% discount which is a bit poor . Overall we have still enjoyed our holiday but have done so more away from the hotel . The overall demographic of the people visiting Maderia has changed over the last few years and as an older couple we feel that screaming children/ obnoxious 20 year olds and parents who think their children have the right to run wild on holiday is ruining not just a good hotel but the island as a whole . I don’t think we will visit the island for a long time in the future which is disappointing.

Funchal is busy but this hotel is literally an oasis of calm, immersed in tropical plants and greenery. It is absolutely stunning. Not only that, I have never experienced such wonderful care and service from every member of staff in the hotel. They are exemplary and I have stayed in some pretty superb hotels in my time. Nothing was too much trouble and such kindness. It is surrounded by busy roads as are all the top hotels, but it is like being in paradise when entering the grounds. The rooms are fantastic and so sensitively absorbed into the grounds that it just blends so well. If we were to go back to Madeira, we would not consider staying anywhere else. This is probably at the top of the list of favourite hotels that we have stayed in. Thank you so much.
