This place is a true oasis in the middle of the city. We enjoyed the peace and calm in the fascinating gardens. The architecture is a dream and the service was always extremely helpful, welcoming and friendly. We wish we could have stayed longer.

I have been fortunate enough to have travelled a great, with many lovely hotels - this is an absolute highlight for me and my family (partner and 7 year old). From the start to the end the staff have been wonderful, we stayed over Christmas and the manager arranged a gift for our daughter, and local wine/cake for us....it was a lovely thought, and illustrates the advantage of a boutique hotel of this class. The grounds are lovely and peaceful, and location is perfect....a walk to the centre of town if desired. Breakfast was so relaxing on the terrace looking over the grounds. Unforgettable stay. I find it difficult to find fault! Thank you to the amazing manager and their wonderful staff.

A last minute trip given travel restrictions but hotel welcome was warm and reassuring. Room spacious and very well equipped in ultra modern building. The original manor house has the bar and restaurant. Service was top notch from ordering taxis, recommending restaurants and advising on trips and activities. Will definitely be back!

This is a truly lovely hotel. The gardens are extensive, lush and manicured, there are two well designed swimming pools and the sun beds are the best ever with thick comfy cushions. The staff is first class. Everyone is friendly and helpful despite the COVID restrictions which make engaging with guests more challenging. Our garden room, in the glass wing, was rather basic and its main attraction was a nice terrace overlooking the gardens with two excellent sun beds. The room itself felt rather bare and this impression wasn’t helped by the lights which were tragically dim. The room had too few sockets although a pop up extension Tower on the desk helped. The hairdryer in the bathroom wasn't very good and the only socket near a mirror was in the entrance hall with hardly any light. However, niggles aside, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The bathrooms really do need updating for a hotel of this calibre. While the room itself was freshly painted, the extraction fan was useless and the shower over the bath was difficult to use (twice I ended up washing my hair unintentionally when the controls had been moved by the cleaner and I got a face full of water when I was trying to adjust them 😂). The shower screen is also too short so the bathroom floor got soaked when my whale of a husband showered. However the robes and towels felt like new. Breakfast was excellent although a la carte due to COVID with three sittings at 7.30, 8.30 & 9.30am. Everything was delicious apart from the coffee, which I found a little bitter, but the fruit, breads and jams were varied and terrific and the cooked dishes excellent. The waiting staff were on point too. There is a gym but the equipment is basic with just free weights and a multi gym as well as a few cardio machines but the hotel is within fairly easy walking distance of central Funchal. We had a car and the roads are fairly hair-raising with incredibly steep hills as soon as you leave the centre.

It’s about 6 weeks since our late October break in Madeira and it was the most special time spent at this fabulous hotel. Every minute there was pure pleasure and relaxation - with fantastic food as the icing on the cake. Due to Covid, the hotel was about half full and we were lucky beyond belief to be upgraded from our booked garden suite to the private pool villa. It was just heaven. The two pools and the whole estate are just simply beautiful, the service faultless and so amazing I’m not sure any holiday will top it for relaxation! Hotel location is fantastic and some great restaurants walking distance (notably Franco’s corner). We hired a car for a few days and had some fantastic trips. Other days just chilling in the grounds. Hated leaving! Thank you to all the team x (ps happy hour is a must!)
